Studies on the Ecology and Ingestion of Ampullarius Insularus for Weeding of Paddy Rice (왕우렁이(Ampullarius Insularus)의 攝食${\cdot}$生態 및 논잡초 防除 效果에 관한 硏究)

  • This experiment were performed on rice dignity during 1998 at paddy field of Dong-a Univ., Pusan, Korea. Depression effect of weed occurrence by pasture of 2kg of the Ampullarius insularus per 10a was 80.4% at the 7th day after transplanting, 69.7% at the 14th day after transplanting pasture plot and 51.8% at the 21th day after transplanting. Deperssion effect of weed occurrence by pasture of 5kg of the Ampullarius insularus per 10a was 97.9% at the 7th day after transplanting, 79.2% at the 14th day after transplanting pasture plot and 64.1% at the 21th day after transplanting. Depression effect of weed occurrence by pasture of 8kg of the Ampullarius insularus per 10a was 97.9% at the 7the day after transplanting, 87.1% at the 14th day after transplanting pasture plot and 71.4% at the 21th day after transplanting. Weeds ingestied by the Ampullarius insularus were in the order of perennial weed, annual weed.

Organization of Profitable Cattle Husbandry Through Exploiting Favourable Environment Factors (환경요인을 적절하게 이용한 경제성 있는 축산조직 -헝가리의 사례연구-)

  • Through manifestation of the principles of commodity production spatial sharing of labour can be observed in the agriculture as well as in cattle production. Better adjustment of the production structure to the environment factors brings higher yields and more effective production. In being able to maximize the profit the entrepreneurs opt for producing output that closely matches to their featuring conditions. In contrary to the relatively high "mobility" of crop production animal husbandry and within this cattle production - as known - is strictly chained to forage production. On the basis of our economic research and as a result of multivariable analysis(factor analysis) it can be concluded that two variable groups(factors) are highly dominant in organizing profitable cattle production. First of them is the crop site factor (indicated by gold crown value), the second is the forage production feature(forage and grassland area and the yield of them). During recent years the weight of environmental factors suffered from devaluation. As a result of the central economic administration differentiating effects were suppressed and the chances of equalizing concepts strengthened. The outcome can be observed even today. In the regions, for example, being predominantly suitable for grass and forage cropping the milk and slaughter cattle production decreased. The same is ture for com and pig production regions. Unexploitment of local environmental features can be observed mainly in grassland management. Branches being potential user of grasslands hardly take them into consideration. Main method of rational use of grasslands is pasturing. Presence of pastures and the usage of them through cattle production is highly important not only for profitable production but also for maintaining ecological stability.

Effects of Dietary Green Tea on Egg Storage in Laying Hens Under Stress (녹차의 급여가 스트레스하의 산란계가 생산한 계란의 저장성에 미치는 영향)

  • Green tea has been known to show beneficial effects on alleviating stress. The present study was conducted to determine the effects of dietary green tea on quality of eggs, during storage, laid by laying hens treated with corticosterone in order to mimic the current practice of the egg market. Hens were fed for 2 weeks one of three diets containing green tea at 0.0, 0.4 or 1.0%. Each dietary group was divided into two subgroups receiving corticosterone at 0 or 30 mg/kg for 1 week. Eggs, laid at 5-7 days following the initiation of corticosterone treatment, were stored at $10^{\circ}C$ for 1 or 5 weeks and then analyzed for egg quality. After 1 week of storage, egg weight was significantly increased by green tea (p<0.025) but decreased by corticosterone (p<0.0001), but no interaction was observed between both. Corticosterone decreased shell color (p<0.0001) but green tea significantly decreased shell strength (p<0.006). Yolk color, albumen height and Haugh unit were not affected by both treatments. After 5 weeks of storage, corticosterone resulted in reduced egg weight (p<0.01) and eggshell color (p<0.001) and increased shell strength, which were not attenuated by green tea. Taken together, the results of the current study show that dietary corticosterone reduces egg quality during storage, which are attenuated in part by dietary green tea.

Measurement of Ammonia Emission Rate and Environmental Parameters from Growing-Finishing and Farrowing House during Hot Season (하절기 육성$\cdot$비육돈사와 분만돈사의 암모니아 발생특성 및 환경변화)

  • This study was carried out to measure the environmental related parameters from two types of swine houses. Indoor temperature, relative humidity, carbon dioxide level, ammonia concentration and emission were measures every 2 minutes from each house with portable monitoring units. Carbon dioxide concentration balance was used to estimate the ventilation rates of the different houses. Daily ammonia concentrations in the growing-finishing and farrowing houses ranged from 2 to 17 ppm and 6 to 15 ppm respectively. The daily ammonia emission rate from the manure averaged 4.37 g/h$\cdot$500 kg from growing-finishing house and 4.82 g/h$\cdot$500 kg from the farrowing house. The above findings proved that summer season was associated with higher ammonia emission rates due to higher ventilation rate and ambient air temperature.

Conducted to Verify the Effect of Chlorine Dioxide (ClO2) on Odor Reduction at a Compost Facility (이산화염소 가스분무에 의한 퇴비장 악취저감 효과)

  • This study was conducted to verify the effect of chlorine dioxide ($ClO_2$) on odor reduction at a commercial swine facility consisting of a compost ficility. Compost facility in $NH_3$ concentration was around 550 ppm and less than 78 ppm before and after the $ClO_2$ spraying, respectively, which was over 86% reduction. There was no H2S detection. $NH_3$ concentration was around 420 ppm and less than 35 ppm before and after the $ClO_2$ spraying, respectively, which was over 83% reduction. $H_2S$ concentration was around 210 ppb and less than 32 ppb before and after the $ClO_2$ spraying, respectively, which was over 85% reduction. Hence, $ClO_2$ spraying at windowless barns was compost facility decreased malodor such as $NH_3$.

Analysis of Reproductive and Weaned Performances in Sow Farms (양돈농가의 계절에 따른 번식 및 이유성적 분석)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the reproductive and weaned performances in sow farms, which located in Boryeong city, Chungnam. Data surveyed a total of 10,394 litters of sow recorded from April, 2007 to March, 2008 were collected and analyzed. The results obtained were as follows; 1. The average of number of sow and farrowing rate were 314.10 sows and 78.77%, respectively. And then, there was not significant difference among seasons in number of sows, but significant difference among season was found in farrowing rate (p<0.05). 2. The average of litter size at farrowing and at initial sucking were 11.04 and 10.22 pigs, respectively. The significant differences were not all found in litter size among seasons. 3. The number of pigs, age and growth rate at weaning were 9.23 pigs, 25.77 days and 91.48%, respectively. The significant differences among seasons were not found in number of pigs and age at weaning. However, there was significant difference in growth rate at weaning (P<0.05). 4. The average of farrowing rate of sows per year, pigs from sow per year (PSY), and body weight at marketing were 2.25 times, 20.75 pigs, and 110.46 kg, respectively. The significant differences among seasons were not found in farrowing rate per year and weight at marketing, but that was found only in PSY (p<0.05), respectively.

Profiling and Priority Selection of Foodborne Pathogens in Fresh Produce (국내 신선 농산물 생물학적 위해요소 우선순위 설정)

  • There have been growing concerns among people about food safety due to insufficient information on foodborne pathogens. In this study, we developed a risk priority of 15 foodborne pathogens. For the priority determination we collected risk profile criteria information from CODEX Alimentarius Commission and developed countries. The basis for criteria we selected from information of surveillance were frequency and severity of disease, frequency of consumption and probability of cross-contamination. We also considered foodborne pathogens which have been managed in developed countries though those pathogens are not currently managed appropriately in Korea. Priorities were divided into three groups following these consideration. The first priority group includes Norovirus, pathogenic E. coli, Salmonella spp, Clostridium botulinum and Listeria monocytogenes. The second priority group includes Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Stapylococcus aureus, Campylobacter jejuni and Bacillus cereus, and the third priority group includes Clostridium perfringens, Yersinia enterocolitica, Shigella spp, Cronobacter sakazakii and Hepatitis A virus. Our results could be applied to prevent foodborne illness from fresh produce.

Estimation of Environmental Effect and Maternal Effect for Swine Economic Traits (돼지의 경제형질에 대한 환경효과 및 모체효과의 추정)

  • This study looked into how much maternal genetic effect influenced on economic traits through estimation of genetic parameter and heritability over swine's economic traits by maternal animal model using GGP farm examination data of total 31,455 swine of Duroc species, Landrace species and Yorkshire species that were born between 2000 and 2008. As a result of significance test over each factor in surveyed all traits, high significance was approved in the effect of breed, gender, the date of swine's birth, the season swine's born, and difference in delivery in every trait (p<0.01). It is considered that it would be possible to get more efficient improvement effect provided correlation between additive genetic effect and maternal genetic effect as well as maternal genetic effect according to breed, traits, and improvement direction are properly considered as negative covariance existed between additive genetic distribution and maternal genetic distribution presumed for traits by each breed and their genetic relation also showed mostly strong negative correlation.

Estimation of Variance Component on Swine Economic Traits using Multivariate Maternal Animal Model (다변량 모체효과 모형을 이용한 돼지 경제형질의 분산성분 추정)

  • This study looked into estimation of variance component over swine's economic traits by multiple animal model and maternal effect model using on-farm test data of total 31,455 swine of Duroc, Landrace and Yorkshire species that were born between 2000 and 2008. Heritability by estimated additive genetic effect showed higher than one by maternal genetic effect using multivariate maternal animal model in each trait examined by each breed and most heritability when considering only additive genetic effect in multiple traits animal model was estimated to be higher than one by estimated additive genetic effect in multivariate maternal animal model. In correlation between breeding value by estimated maternal genetic effect and phenotypic value using multivariate maternal animal model, rank correlation and simple correlation of breeding value and phenotypic value by maternal genetic effect also showed low positive correlation or strong negative correlation, which can be considered that if correlation with phenotype were increased properly considering maternal genetic effect in each trait by each breed, even better improvement could be promoted.

Effect of Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria Application on Soil Chemical Properties and Chrysanthemum Growth in Greenhouse Cultivation Area with High Salt Accumulation (염류집적 국화 시설재배지 토양에서 인산분해미생물 시용이 토양화학성 및 국화생육에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to develop the soil amendment practice by phosphate solubilizing bacteria application in greenhouse chrysanthemum cultivation area with high salt accumulation. The experimental site (ShinWoo Flower, GwangJu) has been cultivated chrysanthemum for 15 years and showed significant salt accumulation. The phosphate solubilizing bacteria, Pseudomonas putida (KSJ11), Acinetobacter calcoaceticus (KSJ3) and Acinetobacter calcoaceticus (WP20) formulated on vermiculite for easy use, were applicated. Each 250L of phosphate solubilizing bacteria was applied for $82m^2$ before planting. Acinetobacter calcoaceticus (KSJ3; WP20) increased the amount of soluble phosphorus in an effective level. Particularly, Acinetobacter calcoaceticus (WP20) increased not only the level of soluble phosphorus but also potassium, calcium and magnesium resulting in the increase of EC in the soil. The level of nematode was also decreased with the non-treated increased. As a result, we suggest that selected phosphate solubilizing bacteria (WP20) could be a useful practice for soil amendment in chrysanthemum plantation soil and provided an opportunity to reduce the use of the fertilizer during the cultivation period.
