  • Citrullinemia type1 is an autosomal recessive disorder of the urea cycle characterized by neonatal or late onset of hyperammonemia caused by a deficiency of the enzyme argininosuccinate synthetase (ASS). An ASS1 deficiency demonstrates fatal clinical manifestations that are characterized by the neonatal metabolic coma and early death when untreated. It causes a broad spectrum of effects, ranging from a mild disorder to a severe mental retardation, epilepsy, neurologic deficits. An acute neonatal form is the most common. Infants are normal at birth followed by an acute illness characterized by vomiting, lethargy, seizures and coma. These medical problems are life-threatening in many cases. A later onset form is less frequent and may be milder than the neonatal form. This later-onset form is associated with severe headaches, visual dysfunction, motor dysfunction, and lack of energy. Citrullinemia type1 is caused by mutations in the ASS1 gene located on chromosome 9q34.1 that encodes argininosuccinate synthetase, the third enzyme of the urea cycle catalyzing the formation of argininosuccinic acid from citrulline and aspartic acid. The enzyme is distributed in tissues including liver and fibroblasts. This mutation leads to hyperammonemia, arginine deficiency and elevated citrulline level. In the urea cycle, argininosuccinate synthetase catalyses the conversion of citrulline and aspartate to argininosuccinate.. Here, we describe a female newborn patient with lethargy, rigidity and hyperammonemia who was diagnosed as citrullinemia type1 with a c.[421-2A>G], c.[1128-6_1188dup] mutation.

  • This experiment was carried out to develope a technique for labelling pine gall midge with ·radioactive phosphorus and calcium. This technique evolved would help to obtain basic information on the appropriate concentration of $^{32}P\; and\; ^{45}Ca$ in tagging and determination of adult flight ranges which considered as one of the factors in dissemination. 1. Labelling at the larval stage of pine gall midge by injection of $^{45}Ca$ into pine tree trunk appeared not to be effective for tagging the adults because radioactivity was gradually decreased to background by emergence. 2. The radioactivities of larvae in the galls gradually increased in September but from October 1 the activity was gradually decreased for 10 days then equilibrium was maintained thereafter. The results seem to indicate that larval diet termination occured early October. 3. A maximum level of radiation was detected at 3 weeks after $^{32}P$ injection and thereafter it was gradually reduced. This result implies that $^{32}P$ is not appropriate radioisotope in labelling pine gall midge through trunk injection method. 4. After washing in running water for 10 minutes, the optimum$^{32}P$ concentration for treated overwintered larvae and pupae was found to be 0.5 micro curie per ml. for 30 minutes dipping.

  • We investigated the host fruit, seasonal occurrence, and oviposition habits of the eurytomid wasp, Eurytoma maslovskii that cause Japanese apricot fruit drops. This eurytomid wasp was found to occur in Gyeonggi-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, Chungcheongnam-do, Jeollanam-do, and Jeollabuk-do in Korea, and it attacked seeds of Japanese apricot, apricot, and peach. Overwintered larvae were observed until mid April, inside the stone of Japanese apricots. Pupation took place between late March and late April. More than 90% of the adult wasps emerged between late April and early May. The female wasps laid eggs just under the seed coat before endocarp hardening. The length of the wasp ovipositor was at least 5 mm, and hence, the diameters of fruits for oviposition would not exceed 2 cm. We observed up to five eggs per fruit, and the egg stage did not last for more than two days. Newly hatched larvae moved to the embryo, which is the first part that forms in a seed, and feeds on this. Larval competition occurs during this time; in this study, only one larva survived and matured. Thus, from the larva cycle of the wasp, most of the damaged fruits would have fallen by early June, before the harvest period.

  • As these days people spend most of time at inner space, indoor air quality affect human life seriously. Government manage indoor air quality of various facilities based on different laws. Government released that they would try to protect environment for vulnerable people such children and seniors from indoor air pollutants in 2015. But social welfare facilities are exception under current legal systems. Clients of social welfare residential facilities are the disables, the elderly, homeless and children and they usually stay inner space very long time. The purpose of this study is explore workers' attitude and related factors about indoor air quality management of social welfare facilities. 69.5% of respondents agree to government's indoor air quality management, 80.9% of respondents think social welfare facilities must be included in legal system for indoor air quality management. Environmental awareness and law awareness were related with attitude to indoor air quality management. Based on the results of the analysis, I propose the amendment of law on indoor air quality of the Ministry of Environment, cost burden of central or local government and the necessity of education and research on indoor air quality management in social welfare facilities.

  • Bemisia tabaci is one of polyphagous insect pests that transmits Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus (TYLCV) and Cassava Brown Streak Disease (CBSD). Insecticides are primarily applied to control B. tabaci, but it has limits due to the development of resistance. As a result, a fixed precision sampling plan was developed for its integrated pest management (IPM). The tomato plants were divided into top (more than 130cm from the ground), middle (70 cm to 100 cm above the ground), and bottom (50 cm or less above the ground) strata, before visual sampling of the larvae of B. tabaci. The spatial distribution analysis was conducted using Taylor's power law coefficients with pooled data of top, middle, bottom strata. Fixed precision sampling plan and control decision-making were developed with precision levels and action threshold recommended from published scientific papers. To assess the validation of the developed sampling plans, independent data not used in the analysis were evaluated using the Resampling Validation for Sampling Plan (RVSP) program.

  • This study was designed to research the anti-tumor effect of omija (methanol extract(I), malic acid & ethanol extract(II), and water extract (III)) on human liver cancer cell line SNU-398. MTT assay was used in vitro. The longer th\ulcorner exposure time and the higher the concentration of Omija extract, the stronger the anti-tumor effect. When the concentration of (II) was 1,600 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ and the exposure time reached 96 hours, The strongest propagation inhibition effect occurred with the viability rate as low as 5.06%. $IC_{50}$/ value was 363 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$. Under the condition of 1,600$\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ and 96 hours, (I) lowered the rate to 7.75%. $IC_{50}$/ value was 489 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$. When it was 1,600$\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ and 72 hours, (III) the rate decreased to 15.97%. $IC_{50}$/ value was 703 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$. In all three cases, the viability of the cancer cell decreased significantly when the exposure time ranged between 24 and 48 hours.
