  • Since the introduction of reefer container for seaborne transportation, international trade of reefer products has increased continuously with the development of refrigerate technology, increased speed of the ship and change of consumption pattern. Reefer cargo is perishable and sensitive to temperature, humidity compared with general cargo and normally reefer cargo is more valuable than general cargo. Therefore it needs special care for its handling in transit including land and sea in order to prevent cargo damage. However, lots of claims relating to reefer cargo damage rise frequently in workplace. It may increase unnecessary logistic cost and time. The aim of this study is to improve and prevent damage to reefer container cargo in transit for the purpose of benefits to both merchants and carriers to save unnecessary logistic cost and time as well as to contribute to deliver the cargo more safely and efficiently to destination.

A Study on the Optimization of Temperature Deviation of Loads in Smart Reefer Container (스마트냉동컨테이너의 적재부 온도 편차 최적화에 관한 연구)

  • In a reefer container, temperature deviation occurs between the front of the loading part with the refrigerator and the rear of the loading part with the container door due to the external environment. In particular, this temperature deviation in the transport of fresh cargo has a great influence on the freshness of the cargo. In this study, we propose a method to minimize the temperature deviation by partially shielding the T-Floor to reduce the temperature deviation and evaluating the effect of the T-Floor shielding rate on the temperature change of the reefer container loading part. The subject of the experiment was a 40 feet smart reefer container, and the T-Floor shielding rates were set to 0%, 50%, 60%, 70%, and 80%. As a result of the experiment, it occurred differently in the temperature deviation of the reefer container loading part according to the shielding rate, and it was confirmed that the temperature deviation was the most uniform when the shielding rate was 60%. By minimizing the temperature deviation of the loading part, it is possible to prevent corruption and cold damage of cargo during transportation of fresh cargo by using the smart reefer container.

  • Fresh agricultural product in Korea are currently being exported overseas through expensive air transportation, supported by the governments's farm export subsidies. However all members of the World Trade Organization(WTO) must halt government subsidies by 2023. Accordingly, it is necessary to use marine transport capable of carrying freight at low cost. Reefer containers are used for marine transportation of fresh produce but it have a problem due to the temperature difference inside the reefer container which causes of fresh cargo and drop in freshness during sea transportation. In order to solve the problem, we developed a temperature control algorithm for reefer container that maintain a constant temperature and minimizes the deviation inside reefer container. The result showed that the maintained a constant temperature within a maximum of $0.5^{\circ}C$ based on the set-point of $4.0^{\circ}C$ inside reefer container.

  • The contents of reef container face a risk of being damaged if the interior temperature and certain maintenance conditions for the shipments cannot be met. Currently, the temperature and other conditions within a reefer container is checked manually and periodically by someone in charge of it. Since it means that there is no real-time checking of the conditions, if something goes wrong, there is no immediate means of correcting the problem. This paper introduces reefer container monitoring system, that checks interior temperature of container on real-time by sensor nodes attaching reefer container using wireless sensor network. It senses the temperature, amount of light, motion and the change in speed of the objects that distributes sensors throughout the desired places and sends the data wirelessly to anyone interested. Because the prosed technique can check the temperature and other conditions within a reefer container on real-time basis, it enables efficient and effective maintenance of temperature and other conditions

  • To prevent damage to the cargo, monitoring and remote management for reefer containers is necessary. The currently used remote monitoring service is the Power Cable Transmission(PCT) system, which is recommended by the International Maritime Organization(IMO). However, this system is not widely used because it requires a separate PCT infrastructure and is susceptible to data loss problems. To solve this problem, this study introduces the "IoT-based reefer container management system", The proposed system which is attached to reefer container collects and transmits data on the temperature, status and location of reefer container to middleware using RS-232 communication and WCDMA/GSM communication. Middleware is store the data received in the database and provide information to user in real time through the web and mobile program. At this time, users able to change setting temperature in real time from a distant place through the web program. This study tested by transit about shipment of strawberries to monitor and analyze and check the system's overall effectiveness.

  • 일반적으로 액화암모니아, LPG, 메탄, 부탄 등을 운송하는 가스운반선은 가스를 비등점 이하의 온도로 낮춰서 액화하여 운송하는 선박으로, 가스의 비등점이 -3$0^{\circ}C$에서 -4$0^{\circ}C$ 내외의 저온이므로 대기압 상태에서는 냉각되어 액화상태 약 -48$^{\circ}C$ 유지로 화물탱크에 저장 운반되어야 하는 여러 가지 제약조건이 따른다. 이러한 가스를 보관하는 탱크는 주로 저온에 강한 니켈강을 쓰게 되며 완벽한 고도의 용접기술을 필요로 하고, 저온상태의 화물 저장 운송을 위해서는 대형 냉동기와 보온설비도 필요하다.   • The factors for service quality improvement of frozen and refrigerated warehouses are derived and the differences in perception about service quality improvement between shippers and operators of frozen and refrigerated cargos are analyzed. The objective of this study is to propose quality improvement measures for frozen and refrigerated cargo services using the importance-performance analysis (IPA). As a result, 15 analysis factors were derived. It was found through independent sample t-test that there is no difference in perception about quality improvement between shippers and operators. Furthermore, four top priority investment areas were derived from the IPA: maintaining temperature and humidity, securing variable storage space, on-time stocking and releasing, and providing information service. Meanwhile, inventory management service ability, on-time stocking and releasing, and reliable cargo storage ability needed urgent improvement. This study has industrial implications in that it proposes practical improvement measures for service quality improvement.

  • In spite of a recent trend of container ships becoming larger in size, the current circumstance is that managing reefer containers marine transportation is being mostly dependent upon manpower. Particularly, in the case of bad weather or nighttime, reefer containers are not being monitored due to lack of safety device. For the purpose of reducing such risk, IMO is recommending a system using PLC but the system is not being used. In addition, they are still relying on manpower for control and reliability of freight in transit is decreasing due to lack of information during marine transportation for every subject related to freight as well as shipper. Accordingly, the purpose of this paper is to propose a real-time reefer container management system to effectively control all reefer containers widely being used across the world.

Investigation of Domestic Refrigeration and Freezing Warehouses (국내 냉장냉동 창고 현황 조사)

  • This study aims to provide the present general state of basic data about refrigeration and freezing warehouses scold storages because basic data about refrigeration and freezing warehouses are insufficient and imperfect at the moment. Research contents include the present general state of cold storages such as sales amount, capital(money invested), storage possession state by type, keeping area, cold storage facility capacity, and facility state such as existence of rack, building structure and floor height, and possessed facility state. According to research results, it was found that 86.7% of refrigeration and freezing warehouses are located in the capital region and Busan region in terms of regional distribution, and the average keeping area was found to be bigger in these two regions than that of other regions. In addition, the research shows that more than 80% of companies possess bonded warehouses and there was no big difference in the size and capacity of refrigeration and freezing warehouses. Regarding building structure, most of them were found to be reinforced concrete. However, only 25% of companies installed racks, but there was no statistical significance between existence of rack and the amount of capital and sales. Possessed facilities were found in the order of freight elevator, information system and dock. When it comes to cargo gear, companies were found to possess 9.1 units of forklift and 2.2 units of reach stacker in average. This research is expected to lay a basis for investigating, predicting and developing the local cold storage industry, and more detailed studies will be needed in the future.

Quality Characteristics of Pine Mushroom Yanggaeng Prepared by Different Addition of Frozen Pine Mushroom According to Different Pre-treatment (전처리를 달리한 냉동송이의 첨가량에 따른 송이양갱의 품질 특성)

  • This study was performed to investigate the quality characteristics of pine mushroom yanggaeng prepared with different additions and different preparations of pine mushroom. Yanggaeng was prepared with three concentration of pine mushroom after different preparations of pine mushroom, A hot wind drying 0.1%, 0.3%, 0.5%, Frozen pine mushroom grinding 0.1%, 0.3%, 0.5%, Freezed drying 0.1%, 0.3%, 0.5%, to which was added cooked red bean, agar, oligosaccharide, salt and water. Proximate composition, hunter's color, texture profile analysis and sensory evaluation of yanggaeng were examined. Lightness of pine mushroom yangaeng increased with increasing pine mushroom content and frozen pine mushroom grinding products were higher than those of the preparation products. In the texture profile analysis, hardness of pine mushroom yangaeng increased with increasing pine mushroom content and cohesiveness, springiness of Frozen pine mushroom grinding 0.1% were the highest. In sensory evaluation, the taste and viscosity scores of Freezed drying 0.1% higher than those of the other products. Also the overall acceptability of freezed drying 0.1% pine mushroom yanggaeng was the highest of the all products.
