This study was carried out to investigate the population changes of Liriomyza trijolii (Burgess) on chrysanthemum and its relationship to plant growth and damages. In spring culture of chrysanthemum, L. trifolii adults begun to be attracted by the yellow sticky trap from early May and maintained high population until the middle of July. Larval density increased gradually from late May and reached peak in early July. In autumn culture, the population density of adult was lower than that of spring culture but the number of adult was great in late September and the middle of October. This trend was similar to that of larval stage. Damaged leaves by larva could be found from 4 weeks after transplanting and its rate was low until 5 weeks but increased abruptly after 6 weeks and maintained 70% level until flowering stage in spring culture. Damaged leaves increased with plant growth in some varieties tested in this experiment.

This study was conducted to assess the occurrence and damages by thrips on greenhouse-cultivated fig in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, Korea. We identified the collected species as Thrips tabaci Lindeman, Frankliniella occidentalis Pergande, and F. intonsa Trybom. The density of thrips in the greenhouses during the summer months was monitored using yellow sticky traps; T. tabaci showed the highest density, followed by F. occidentalis and F. intonsa. The damages by thrips were characterized by stunted plant growth because of delayed discoloration of the pericarp, and development of rough fruit surface. Stereomicroscopic observation on the fruit flesh revealed the growth of gray mold at the damaged area, as well as the dead bodies and exuviae of thrips. The rates of fig fruit damages per month, were 18.2%, 9.7%, 2.9%, and 1.3% in July, August, September, and October, respectively.
Flight behavior of Mntsucoccus thunbergianae males and their response to the synthetic sex pheromone, (6R.lOR)-matsuone, were studied in Pinus thunbergiana forests More males were flying around the tree crown than near the ground. A dispenser loaded w~th 50 vg of the pheromone appeared to affect the density of male flights less than 10 meters Sticky traps with 50 pg of the pheromone attracted flylng males, but those with 1 pg were not effectwe in a forest wlth high crown closure, more males were tmpped at upper crown level than near the ground whereas males appeared to be more responsive to pheromone near the ground in a forest with low crown closure Monitoring new scale iniestations with pheromone mps was much more effective than egg sac surveys, the customary detecting procedures Maiing disruption was not achieved by placing 32 mg of pheromone m a space of l X l X l meter.
The citrus leafminer (CLM), Phyllocnistis citrella Stainton, is an oligophagous pest of Rutaceae family, especially Citrus spp. occurring in most worldwide citrus-growing areas. This study was conducted to evaluate a sex pheromone chemical of CLM, (Z,Z)-7,11-hexadecadienal (7Z,11Z-16:Al) in monitoring CLM by trap types, the diel activity and the influence of some weather factors on trap catch. CLM was well attracted on a trap baited 7Z,11Z-16:Al 1mg. Sticky wing trap was more effective than bucket trap. Most caught CLM were attracted at 2$\sim$6 a.m. regardless of season, and activity time of CLM was affected by sunrise time as well as sunset time. The trap catch of CLM was more influenced by wind velocity than temperature for activity time of CLM. The number of caught CLM was fallen at below 13$^{\circ}C$, but there was little effect for trap catch at over that temperature. The average wind velocity at over 2.0 m/sec made the number of caught CLM drop down. The precipitation did not affect the number of caught CLM when the average wind velocity was lower than at 2.0 m/sec.
This study investigated seasonal occurrence of Frankliniella occidentalis and its damage on chrysanthemum from 1999 to 2000. F. occidentalis adults were attracted to yellow sticky traps from early April to harvesting time in the field. The highest densities were observed from late April to mid-June in spring culture and from mid-August (just after transplanting) to early September in autumn culture respectively. Seasonal fluctuation in a PVC green house was similar to that in the field. Number of insects per flower were higher in the green house than that in the field. Leaf damages due to the insects were observed from mid-May and increased as chrysanthemum grows (R$^2$ = 0.9200-0.9887$\^$**/, p> 0.01).
Ricania sp. lay eggs into the new twigs of blueberry and suck nutrients causing growth retardation and a sooty mold symptom. This study was conducted to investigate the emergence success and developmental period of overwintered eggs of Ricania sp. under the seven constant temperatures from 10 to $34^{\circ}C$ by $4^{\circ}C$ intervals (14L:10D). We also monitored the emergence time of the Ricania sp. nymph at blueberry by 3 ~ 4 day interval using a modified leaf clip cage. Development times from the overwintered egg to $1^{st}$ nymph were 107.1, 54.5, 33.9, 25.3, 25.1 and 16.7 days and the emergence successes were 23.1, 30.8, 13.8, 21.7, 11.9, and 0.6% at 14, 18, 22, 26, 30 and $34^{\circ}C$, respectively except at $10^{\circ}C$. The developmental periods were decreased with increasing temperatures. First emergence date of the nymphs in the field was between 19 and 22 May, and the average emergence success was 19.6%. The present study might be helpful to establish the management strategy of Ricania sp. based on the biological characteristic.
Fungus gnats are usually found in mushroom farm and have recently become important pest because they can cause severe damage and reduce the production on shiitake mushroom. Usually shiitake mushrooms are cultivated on both oak bed logs and in the artificial sawdust beds in greenhouses. Using yellow sticky trap, the dipteran species in shiitake mushroom farm were collected from May to September in Kyonggi-do and Chungcheong-do in 2013. To identify the main species of fungus gnat on the shiitake farm in Korea, the collected samples were determined the sequence of cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) by DNA barcoding. The phylogeny based on maximum likelihood analyses from COI sequence showed that Bradysia difformis and B. alpicola were main species of shiitake bed log and Scatopsidae sp. and B. difformis were dominant species of sawdust beds.
The dark-winged fungus gnats are one of the most serious fly pests attacking the mushroom cultivation in Korea. They cause severe damage to the artificial sawdust beds used to cultivate mushroom, and reduce the production of button mushroom, Agaricus bisporus, in greenhouses. In this study, we collected nine species of the mushroom flies in order to identify the dominant species of the dark-winged fungus gnat attacking the A. bisporus plantation using the yellow sticky trap in Buyeo-gun, Boryeong-gun, Yongin-si and Chilgok-gun from April to June 2015. The collected samples were used to determine the DNA sequence of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) of the nine different species by DNA barcoding. The sequencing results showed that Lycoriella ingenua was the dominant dark-winged fungus gnat species destroying A. bisporus cultivated on the artificial sawdust beds in Korea.
The number of Bemisia tabaci adults attracted to horseweed, thistle, red bean, cucumber, and tomato plants, as measured by the number stuck to yellow sticky traps, was investigated in a polyvinyl greenhouse for growing tomatoes using organic methods. The number was highest on cucumber plants in the early days of B. tabaci infestation, but was highest on horseweed overall. Of the eight species of beans tested, B. tabaci adults were most attracted to Ultari-Gangnang; however, beans were not effective trap plants for B. tabaci. Measurement of olfactory behavioral response using a four-choice olfactometer showed that B. tabaci adults preferred horseweed to cucumber, eggplant, or tomato. The developmental period of B. tabaci eggs and larvae was shorter at high temperature. At $30^{\circ}C$, the developmental period of eggs and larvae on horseweed were reduced approximately 0.5 and 1 day, respectively, compared to those on cucumber or tomato.

The western cherry fruit fly, Rhagoletis indifferens Curran (Diptera:Tephritidae), is the most important pest of cultivated cherries in the Pacific Northwest area of the United States, being widely distributed throughout Oregon, Washington, Montana, Utah, Idaho, Colorado and parts of Nevada. The control of R. indifferens has been based on calendar sprays after its first emergence because of their zero tolerance for quarantine. Therefore, a good prediction model is needed for the spray timing. This study was conducted to obtain the empirical population dynamic information of R. indifferens after overwintering in the major cherry growing area of the Pacific Northwest of the United States, where the information is critically needed to develop and validate the prediction model of the fruit fly. Adult fly populations were monitored by using yellow sticky and emergence traps. Larvae growth and density in fruits were observed by fruit sampling and the pupal growth and density were monitored by pupal collection traps. The first adult was emerged around mid May and a large number of adults were caught in early June. A fruit had more than one larva from mid June to early July. A large number of pupae were caught in early July. The pupae were collected in various period of time to determine the effect of pupation timing and the soil moisture content during the winter. A series of population density data collected in each of the developmental stage were analyzed and organized to provide more reliable validation information for the population dynamic models.
