For oxygen PSA process development, adsorbed amount of oxygen and nitrogen on various adsorbents were measured corresponding Langmuir isotherm parameters were measured. A reasonable adsorbent for oxygen process was selected based on the effective adsorbed amount. The PSA process consists of adsorption, desorption, pressurization, purging and pressure equilization steps. Adsorption pressure was about 2 atm and desorption pressure was between 120 torr to 400torr. Cycle time of 2-bed PSA process was 80 seconds and that of 3-bed oxygen PSA process was 180 seconds. In order to compare and analyze operation characteristics and economic feasibilities of 2-bed and 3-bed oxygen PSA processes, productivity, oxygen concentration and recovery were compared and the effect of purge and pressurization steps on the performance of PSA processes were analyzed. For the commercial scale oxygen PSA process, capital and electricity cost were estimated. In the range of $O_2$ production less than $700Nm^3/hr$, the 2-bed process is conformed more feasible in economic view point.
Activity improvement of Ni metal catalysts for carbon dioxide reforming was studied using HY-zeolite as the main supporter. As the reaction temperature increased, $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ conversions increased, and conversions higher than 80% was obtained above $700^{\circ}C$. As the Ni loading increased, the catalyst activity increased, and the highest activity was shown for the Ni loading of 13wt%. The HY-zeolite support showed the highest intial conversions of $CH_4$ and $CO_2$, but it showed faster deactivation than a ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ support. Nevertheless, it maintained the $CH_4$conversion higher than 80% after 24 hr reaction. The effect of promoters such as Mg, Mn, K, and Ca was also studied. It was observed that the Mg promotor exhibited the highest catalyst activity and less deactivation compared with Mn, K and Ca. After 24hr reaction, The optimum Mg content was found to be 5wt%.

Nowcasting algorithms using weather radar data are mostly based on extrapolating the radar echoes. We estimate the echo motion vectors that are used to extrapolate the echo properly. Therefore, understanding the general characteristics of these motion vectors is important to improve the performance of nowcasting. General characteristics of radar-based motions are analyzed for warm season precipitation over Jeju region. Three-year summer season data (June~August, 2011~2013) from two radars (GSN, SSP) in Jeju are used to obtain echo motion vectors that are retrieved by Variational Echo Tracking (VET) method which is widely used in nowcasting. The highest frequency occurs in precipitation motion toward east-northeast with the speed of $15{\sim}16m\;s^{-1}$ during the warm season. Precipitation system moves faster and eastward in June-July while it moves slower and northeastward in August. The maximum frequency of speed appears in $10{\sim}20m\;s^{-1}$ and $5{\sim}10m\;s^{-1}$ in June~July and August respectively while average speed is about $14{\sim}15m\;s^{-1}$ in June~July and $8m\;s^{-1}$ in August. In addition, the direction of precipitation motion is highly variable in time in August. The speed of motion in Lee side of the island is smaller than that of the windward side.

The effects of the terminal fall velocity-diameter relationship for raindrops, which is prescribed based on the measurement, on the simulated surface precipitation over Korea during summer season were investigated in our study. Two rainfall cases, 1-month summer precipitation and mesoscale rainfall, have been simulated using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. The selected cloud microphysics parameterizations are WRF Single-Moment 5-class (WSM5) and WRF Single-Moment 6-class (WSM6) in the WRF model. The measured terminal fall-diameter relationship for raindrops by Gunn and Kinzer (1949) was applied in both WSM5 and WSM6. The sensitivity experiments with WSM5 and WSM6, applying the measured fall-diameter relationship, presents the different responses in simulated precipitation amount for the 1-month summer precipitation case. Precipitation increases with WSM5, thus enhancing the precipitation statistical skills. However, precipitation decreases with WSM6 leading to the deterioration of precipitation statistical skills. For the mesoscale rainfall case, precipitation increases with both WSM5 and WSM6, which further enhances the positive bias in precipitation amount.

Metal three-dimensional (3D) printing is an important emerging processing method in powder metallurgy. There are many successful applications of additive manufacturing. However, processing parameters such as laser power and scan speed must be manually optimized despite the development of artificial intelligence. Automatic calibration using information in an additive manufacturing database is desirable. In this study, 15 commercial pure titanium samples are processed under different conditions, and the 3D pore structures are characterized by X-ray tomography. These samples are easily classified into three categories, unmelted, well melted, or overmelted, depending on the laser energy density. Using more than 10,000 projected images for each category, convolutional neural networks are applied, and almost perfect classification of these samples is obtained. This result demonstrates that machine learning methods based on X-ray tomography can be helpful to automatically identify more suitable processing parameters.

This study aims to evaluate the accuracy of retrieved horizontal winds with different quality control methods from three Doppler lidars deployed over the complex terrain during the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic games. To retrieve the accurate wind profile, this study also proposes two quality control methods to distinguish between meteorological signals and noises in the Doppler velocity field, which can be broadly applied to different Doppler lidars. We evaluated the accuracy of retrieved winds with the wind measurements from the nearby or collocated rawinsondes. The retrieved wind speed and direction show a good agreement with rawinsonde with a correlation coefficient larger than 0.9. This study minimized the sampling error in the wind evaluation and estimation, and found that the accuracy of retrieved winds can reach ~0.6 m s-1 and 3° in the quasi-homogeneous wind condition. We expect that the retrieved horizontal winds can be used in the high-resolution analysis of the horizontal winds and provide an accurate wind profile for model evaluation or data assimilation purposes.

Recent aggressive threats by North Korea using small drones have heavily impacted on ROK(Republic of Korea) society and it seems to be agreed that counter-drone systems are required to protect our properties. ROK government has been investigating current counter-drone systems for national important facilities. However, there is no consensus standard to evaluate the systems. This paper is to propose a counter-drone system evaluation framework which is the outcome through RMA(Revolution in Military Affairs) thinking process. The RMA thinking process is currently well-implemented in ROK army to develop future military strategy. The proposed framework has 4 categories - threat analysis of North Korea small drones, convergence of detection, tracking and neutralizing systems, integrated operations and available experts and organization - which have corresponding criteria.

Lane detection is one of the major components of traffic intelligence. It is impossible to recognize lanes as human do in all kinds of special situations; however, we can try to solve special problems with special methods. In this paper we propose a simple method using color segmentation, the Probabilistic Hough Transform (PHT), and the Least-Square in real-time lane tracking. Vehicles in neighborhood can be eliminated with one simple threshold in segmentation. Meanwhile, broken shape lanes in different road conditions can be successfully detected using the combination of PHT and Least-Square method. Eventually, this method is tested with groups of static images downloaded from internet and video sequences shot randomly on some highways. Satisfactory results are received.

The characteristics of servo-multipliers and its accuracies are analyzed. From the analysis a low cost high accuracy four quadrant servo-multiplier with first derivative output feedback is built. The multiplier servomechanism has a second order system response with a damping ratio of 0.8 and computing bandwidth of 4 cycles per second, and its tracking accuracy at low speed of 0.5 volt per second is 0.9 per cent of maximum output voltage and static accuracy is better than 0.6 per cent. Method of testing this multiplier and the results are also described. The test on the characteristics of the multiplier shows that the results agree with theoretical values satisfactorily, and justifies the use of the servo-multiplier for slow type analog computers.
