The Relationship between Children's Information Processing and Basic Learning Abilities (유아의 정보처리능력과 기초학습능력 간 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between children's information processing ability and basic learning abilities. To collect the data, two tests were given to 99 children. The Korean K-ABC(Moon & Byun, 1997) and Pictorial Basic Learning Abilities for Children(Kim, 2011) were used to examine the relationship between children's information processing and basic learning abilities. The collected data were analyzed by correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. According to the results of this study, there was a significant positive correlation between information processing(sequential processing, simultaneous processing) and basic learning abilities including reading, writing, and basic mathematics. And information processing significantly affected basic learning abilities. Namely, simultaneous processing explained 22% of basic learning abilities and by adding sequential processing, the explanation was increased to 25%. In conclusion, the results of this study suggest various implications about children's basic learning abilities. These implications will help teachers and parents to understand their children's learning.

Teaching method for general mathematics subjects using the correlation analysis between the mathematics basic education evaluations (수학 기초학력 평가들 간의 상관관계 분석을 통한 교양수학 교과목 학습지도 방안)

  • In this paper, we selected 145 students from engineering college students who took P University's the Scholastic Level Assessment and registered the Basic Mathematics Class among the students who achieved 4th~7th grade in the mathematics B-type of the College Scholastic Ability Test. We compared and analyzed the correlation among the chosen students' grade for the College Scholastic Ability Test, test results of the Scholastic Level Assessment and mid-term test of the Basic Mathematics Subject, type of college entrance and actual condition survey of students in order to derive optimized teaching method for general mathematics subjects which can possibly increase the students' academic ability.

  • 본 연구는 수학교육에서 강조되고 있는 수학적 힘의 구성 요소 중의 하나인 수학적 추론 능력에 대한 교사들의 구체적인 이해를 돕고, 문제 해결 과정에서 학생들의 추론 능력을 분석하고 평가하는 데 도움을 주기 위해 문헌 연구 및 학생반응 분석결과에 기초하여 귀납적, 유비적, 연역적 추론능력에 대한 평가기준을 개발하였다. 또한, 개발된 평가기준을 구체적인 문제에 적용하였으며 이를 기초로 문제점을 수정 ${\cdot}$ 보완한 후, 전문가의 타당성 검증과 동일한 학생반응에 대한 채점결과의 일치도를 알아봄으로써 신뢰도 검증을 실시하였다.

A Study on Mathematics Teachers' Use of Curriculum in Vocational High Schools: Developing Materials of Teaching and Learning Mathematics for Enhancing Employ Ability (특성화고등학교 수학 수업에서의 교육과정 활용 방안: 직업기초능력 함양을 위한 교수-학습 자료 개발)

  • In vocational high schools, mathematics classes aims to improve students' mathematics-applying ability as the employ ability. However, these classes are based on the national curriculum of mathematics likewise general high schools. In this study, we develop and present the materials of teaching and learning mathematics for teachers and students in vocational high schools. We analyze the Test for Enhanced Employ Ability and Upgraded Proficiency (TEENUP) and 2015 revised national curriculum of mathematics, and consider how teachers can use this curriculum to enhance employ ability. As a result, materials of teaching and learning mathematics should be developed in terms of use of curriculum based on teachers' didactical understanding. Moreover, we present the developed materials as examples reflecting on the framework of TEENUP and connecting the 2015 revised national curriculum of mathematics. Based on these results, we draw some recommendations for applying and developing material of teaching and learning mathematics.

결측치를 가진 목표지향형 평가모델에서 수학학습능력의 평가에 관한 연구

  • 결측치를 가진 회귀모형의 모수 추정법을 이용하여 목표지향형 평가 모델에서 기초고사(X)와 신고사(I)(Y), 신고사(II)(Z)등 두 개 이상의 고사지로 이루어진 고사집에서 기초고사에는 결측치가 없고 신고사(I), 신고사(II)등에는 결측치가 있는 경우 모수의 최우추정량 계산법을 논하고 E.M. 알고리즘과 평가치는 희귀방적식화에 의하여 우리나라 중등학교 학생의 수학학습능력과 수학적 사고력의 크기를 변별하며 학생들의 진능력이 반영된 평가모델과 최종 성적을 평가 할 수 있는 계산법을 제시하였다.

  • Junior college students in located Eup-Myeon areas commonly fail to meet the basic standards of mathematics. This leads students to lack basic knowledge and to have difficulties in studying their majors. In addition, students often lose their interest in the study and eventually leave school or drop out, while some have difficulties in their life at work. To remedy and solve these problems, the country proposes National Competency Standards(NCS). The basic occupational competencies proposed in NCS are essential occupational abilities required to successfully perform the job. I want to apply mathematical ability, which is one of the basic occupational competencies, to mathematics education of junior college. Applying NCS mathematical ability to junior college students, I would like to examine the effectiveness of the NCS mathematical ability course. The purpose of this study is to find out the way of education of desirable mathematical ability and to raise basic academic ability and interest in mathematics.

  • Currently science and technology are changing so fast and college mathematics becomes more and more important. But the downturn of freshmen's scholastic performance has been intensified and this phenomenon leads to serious problems in managing college curriculums. During the recent years at a middle level engineering college, many freshmen had a lot of difficulties in their mathematics courses. In consequence, many of them had hard time to survive at their major curriculums. In this point of view, we analyse the situation of mathematical scholastic ability among engineering majored freshmen through the research on the actual state of mathematical background, mathematical scholastic ability test, college mathematics scores, and scholastic aptitude test scores. We study the relation between the mathematics score of scholastic aptitude test for the college entrance and mathematical scholastic ability of freshmen of a middle level engineering college. From this study we conclude that the essential reasons for the above situations are the curriculum of middle school mathematics and the system of scholastic aptitude test and the entrance examination of university. In order for improving mathematical accomplishment. we give suggestions such as a learning ability improvement program in mathematics.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the basic design principles for the engineering mathematics teaching model that supported college students to become collaborative problem solvers. For this purpose, the following four design principles were drawn from the steps of systems approach, especially with consideration of needs of engineering students, professors, curriculum and relevant research on mathematical education. As a result, the four design principles for the engineeering mathematics teaching model were drawn as follows: (1) Improve students' basic mathematical learning abilities through repetition and elaborative practice of the basic mathematical concepts and principles, (2) Develop students' problem solving abilities through collaborative projects or learning activities with peers, (3) Facilitate students' reflection and provide teacher's monitoring and prompt feedback during their learning process, and (4) Build up online learning environments that enable students to become self-regulated learners.
