  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effects of education and training on labor productivity of the leading firms in Busan during the period of 1999~2000. In order to control for firm heterogeneity and the endogeneity problem of education and training, we employed fixed effects model and 2SLS. Our empirical results showed that firms expenditures per capita on education and training were positively correlated with their labor productivity. We also tested whether the effects of education and training on labor productivity vary with firm size or across industries. It is shown that, while firm size makes no statistical differences, the effect of education and training on labor productivity is smaller in service industry than in manufacturing one. From heterogeneous effect of education and training across industries, we could infer that policies to support various education and training programs in service industry are needed to be reinforced to improve the competitiveness of service industry.

As the importance of entrepreneurship is increased, research on entrepreneurship training methods based on the capability model is vitalized in order to effectively develop entrepreneurship in the EU and OECD. In Korea, however, the research on entrepreneurship capability is nearly not proceeding while the outcome of entrepreneurship training is insufficient. The research, therefore, invented the entrepreneurship training model at K university after analyzing cases of entrepreneurship training from inside and outside of the country followed up through the theoretical consideration of entrepreneurship capability and collecting suggestions from experts. The training model rejects the existing economics-based theory education, focuses on the development of entrepreneurship capability, and suggests an educational process considering students' developing stage of entrepreneurship capabilities.

  • Focusing market failure and state intervention, this article analyzes the determinants of corporate training in Korea. Analysing the first wave of HCCP(Human Capital Corporate Panel) data produced by KRIVET(Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training), this article finds that even though the skills attainead in corporate in Korea are mostly general(industry-specific), but the market failure in training appears rather small and is confined to the manufacturing industry. And the state intervention in corporate training works only at manufacturing industry, it does not work at new service industry. The results mean that in new service industry, it is difficult to find out the existence of market failure in training due to the positive externalities. Therefore Korea government should look thoroughly into the state intervention in training in new service industry.
