This study suggests the ways to promote the technology startups founded by professor, who differs from student or researcher in social status, risk-taking tendency, and motivation. Literatures were reviewed to understand the advantage of faculty's tech start-up, foreign cases, and related researches. In addition, key stakeholders were interviewed. The study shows that domestic faculty entrepreneurship is currently in infant stage while facing obstacles in institutional, financial and practical aspects. In order to promote faculty entrepreneurship, the study suggests that university and professor set up the benefit sharing structure in advance, that the public sector establishes a holding company or investment fund dedicated to support a faculty startup, that proactive effort be made to attract passive professors to the startup world, and that private companies join faculty startups in the process of concept proofing and product commercialization. The study is expected to provide government, university, and industry with practical implication in promoting faculty startup.

Accelerator is a private investment institution that provides startups with comprehensive solutions to solve various difficulties such as startup facilities, funds, commercialization, securing a market etc. In addition to the role of an investor as a new startup support model, accelerators have contributed much to improvement of business ability of startups through intensive mentoring. Considering that previous studies gave weight to the determinants of investment from the perspective of investors, this study made a comparative analysis on the relative importance of determinants of investment in startups among accelerators, investors and entrepreneurs through the method of AHP. This study examines the effect of founders' strategic orientation and social capital on the performance of startups in Korean contexts. Founders' strategic orientation is proposed as the main factor to reduce the risk of failure and to increase the potential of future growth of the startup. Three main components of strategic orientation, entrepreneurial, market, technology, were simultaneously tested with a sample of Korean startups. Furthermore, founders' social capital, networks with supporting entities and the level of chemistry within founding members were also proposed to be important factors. We also tested possible mediating effects of social capital on the main impact of strategic orientation. With a sample of 79 startups founded less than 5 years in Seoul Metropolitan Areas, we found that technology orientation of founders only significantly increases the performance of startups, but both entrepreneurial and market orientation do not. Regarding social capital effect, the external networks of the founding members are effective as proposed, and also the high cohesiveness of founding members increases the startup performance. However, the mediating role of social capital is just partially confirmed. The implications of our findings, in both sense of firm's strategy and startup policy, are discussed. This study is expected to be a bridge connecting firms' strategy with startup policy-making in Korea.
