  • Phytophthora blight of pepper is the most economically important disease in the world cultivation regions. We investigated the phytophthora blight resistance of 300 accessions of Korean landrace of hot pepper germplasms collected from 83 local regions. The disease incidence rate was checked from 7 days to 28 days at an interval of 7 days after inoculation under greenhouse conditions. Among 300 accessions, the disease incidence rate of phytophthora blight of 67 accessions of pepper germplasm was more than 60.1%, while no disease was observed in 37 accessions at 7 days after inoculation. At 28 days after inoculation, five and eleven accessions of pepper germplasm were resistance and moderate resistance to $P.$ $capsici$, respectively. Two hundred forty four susceptible accessions (81.3%) of pepper were scored as having more than 60.1% of disease incidence of phytophthora blight. This result suggests that five candidate pepper germplasm might be used as breeding resources for the phytophthora blight resistance breeding program. Also, further genetic studies should be carried out to verify this result, with the overall focus of providing information on important characteristics of pepper germplasm.

  • In this study, a questionnaires survey was administered to Korean and Japanese junior high school science teachers in the capital area to investigate the extents of Science-Technology-Society(STS) education practiced in science classroom. The responses of 69 Korean teachers and 33 Japanese teachers were analysed. The results showed that most of teachers in both country knew well about the meaning and the purpose of STS education. Also they realized the needs of applying the STS education in science class and had wills to do it. However, only about a half of teachers - more than a half of Japanese and less than a half of Korean - were practicing the STS related subjects, activities and assessments in the class. Teachers in both country responded that their science textbooks did not contain enough amounts of STS related contents and other STS education materials available were not much. Therefore, it is needed to include more STS related contents in the science textbooks and to develop various STS education materials and circulate them as well as to establish adequate teaching and assessment methods for STS education. Also activating teachers' meetings to circulate the informations and materials and improving the school environments are recommended.

  • We had conducted a numerical modeling to investigate seismic properties of gas hydrate with field parameters acquired over the East sea in 1998. We used a 2-D staggered grid finite difference method to generate synthetic elastic seismograms for multi-channel seismic survey, OBC (Ocean Bottom Cable) survey and VCS (Vertical Cable Seismic) survey. The results of this study showed that the method using staggered grid yielded stable results and could be used to seismic imaging. We could find out the high amplitude anomaly and the phase reversal phenomenon of reflection wave at interface between the gas hydrate layer and free gas layer such a BSR (Bottom Simulating Reflector) which is the evidence for existence of gas hydrate in seismic reflection data. And we computed the reflection coefficients at the incident angles corresponding to offset distance with the synthetic seismograms. The reflection coefficients acquired from the numerical modeling were nearly consistent with the reflection coefficient computed by Shuey's equation.

  • Purpose - In this research, we investigate the relationship between the level of information technology utilization, social capital and knowledge management, organization performance. For information and knowledge management, participants' certain level of information technology utilization is required and connections among participants are necessary for performing and for synergy effects. Research design, data, and methodology - Reflecting on these, we empirically analyze the effects of participant's information technology utilization level and social capital on knowledge management and organization achievement for the case of Incheon International Airport. Questionnaire is distributed to the airport employees and collected 221 samples for analyzing. SPSS and AMOS statistic programs are used for analysis. Factor analysis, Credibility adaptability, path analysis, hypotheses are verified. Results - The study research shows as follow. First, the level of IT utilization does affect social capital but does not affect knowledge management. Second, social capital affects both knowledge management and organization achievement. To investigate more about the relationship between the level of IT utilization and knowledge management, we analyzed the control effects of personal characteristics, and findings are, first, employees with longer time service recognize the importance that the level of IT use and knowledge management affect organization achievement more seriously than employees with shorter time service do. Second, employees with shorter time service and younger employees have relatively lesser social capital and participate in knowledge management passively. Third, higher position employees think that the level of IT utilization affects knowledge management while lower position employees do not. Conclusions - The level of IT utilization affects social capital, and social capital affects knowledge management and organization achievement. These results suggest that the level of IT utilization is very important to both organization and each employee. So providing related training and education opportunities or incentives to induce employees to make efforts for higher level of IT utilization and thus to participate in knowledge management more actively is necessary. The level of IT utilization affects social capital which airport employees lack. • The objective of this study is the quantitative analysis of climate change effects by performing several statistical analyses with hydrometeorological data sets for past 30 years in Geum river watershed. Temperature, precipitation, relative humidity data sets were collected from eight observation stations for 37 years(1973~2009) in Geum river watershed. River level data was collected from Gongju and Gyuam gauge stations for 36 years(1973~2008) considering rating curve credibility problems and future long-term runoff modeling. Annual and seasonal year-to-year variation of hydrometeorological components were analyzed by calculating the average, standard deviation, skewness, and coefficient of variation. The results show precipitation has the strongest variability. Run test, Turning point test, and Anderson Exact test were performed to check if there is randomness in the data sets. Temperature and precipitation data have randomness and relative humidity and river level data have regularity. Groundwater level data has both aspects(randomness and regularity). Linear regression and Mann-Kendal test were performed for trend test. Temperature is increasing yearly and seasonally and precipitation is increasing in summer. Relative humidity is obviously decreasing. The results of this study can be used for the evaluation of the effects of climate change on water resources and the establishment of future water resources management technique development plan.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the user's perception of security risk and examine its impact on the usage of Knowledge Management Systems(KMS). The findings of this study are three-fold. First, the overall user's perception of security risk is not high. However, there is a considerably big difference in the perception of security risk among users. This finding means that user's perception of a security risk is not based on the actual security effects but one's individual perception. Another finding is that user's perception of a security risk has a negative impact on the usage of KMS through "trust", which is a mediating variable in our study. This finding corresponds with the existing theory that security risk is oneof the critical sources of trust, and trust is a critical factor of user's acceptance of KMS. Finally, the result of this study reveals that activities devoted to security do not decrease the effectiveness and productivity of KMS. Our long-held cognition that security activity hinders the effectiveness and productivity of an information system is not particularly applied to the KMS.
