  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences that appeared in the episodes in understandings of the emotional display rules according to the types of emotions and subjects for expressing emotions. In addition, the interaction effects of intention reasoning types and gender on children's understandings of the real emotions and emotional display rules are explored. 144 4-5 year old children in Chungbuk province participated in the experimental interviews. The results are as follows. First, children comprehended the emotional display rules more clearly in a relationship with peers than adults. In terms of a type of emotion, it was the negative emotions rather than positives ones that those children understood better for real emotions and emotional display rules. Second, the main effect of the intention reasoning types on children's understanding of the emotional display rules appeared significant in all episodes. Especially, in negative emotion-peer episode, children with different types of intention reasoning showed a different level of understanding emotional display rules depending on gender of the children.

  • The purpose of this study was to show that yoga psychology aims to actualize the positive potentials in the depth of human mind with the perspective of body-emotion-mind-spirit integration. This approach is described in the context of modern positive psychology. For this purpose, the Self-realization of yoga psychology is discussed, which is to develop one's higher self as a center of psyche apart from one's psychological growth or maturation. An individual can experience positive emotions such as pleasure, joy, happiness and ecstasy through the typical yoga technique of concentration. Happiness is one of the main issues of positive psychology, but yoga psychology called it "ānanda" and divided it further into seven types. The positive emotions of positive psychology seem to be equivalent to positive states of mind in yoga psychology. But yoga regards calmness, tranquility, nonattachment and transcendence as the most valuable virtues for the full actualization of human potentials. From the perspective of yoga psychology, the tranquil state of mind is the wonderful fruit of long and arduous yoga practices. It is the calm and neutral state of mind which is free from all the turmoils of everyday life. Tranquility is beyond the scope of modern positive psychology's issues, but it offers some precious insights to them.

  • It has been well known and empirically supported that many persons with psychiatric disabilities experience recovery in the community. The sense of recovery is experienced while they recognize and manage mental illness and cope with everyday life utilizing personal and social resources. In order to explore ways in which the sense of recovery is enhanced, this study investigated the structure of relationships among the mental health state, optimism, positive emotions, quantity and quality of the social relationships, coping, and recovery of 460 persons with psychiatric disabilities through structural equation modeling. Of findings, first, in the results of path estimates of measurement and theoretical model, especially optimism and positive emotions demonstrated significant effects on the social relationship, coping, and the recovery, while, by contraries, positive emotions showed no significant direct effects on coping, neither the social relationships did on the recovery. Second, on the recovery optimism and positive emotions had direct effects, while quantity and quality of the social relationships had only indirect effects. It is particularly noted that positive emotions showed stronger effects on the recovery than optimism, and also had direct and indirect effects on the social relationships. Finally, partial mediating effects of coping were found between optimism and the recovery, between quality of the social relationships and recovery, and between quantity and quality of the social relationships; another partial mediating effects of quality of social relationships between quantity of social relationships and coping, and between positive emotions and coping; and the last same effects of quantity of the social relationships between positive emotions and coping. According to these results, discussions and implications for social work practice and practice research were suggested regarding the differential effects of positive cognitions and emotions on the recovery and different mechanisms of the quality and quantity of the social relationships, and the relationships among the resources, coping, and the recovery of persons with psychiatric disabilities.

  • The purpose of this study was to verify whether there were significant differences in the levels and relationships of emotional intelligence, school adaptation, self-resilience, positive human relationships, and depression between elementary school students who participated in after-school music activities and those who did not. The participants of this study were 379 fourth, fifth, and sixth grade elementary school students in the Capital Area and Gyeongnam Province participated in after-school music activities and 368 students who did not, totaling 747 students. For research analysis, t-test and multi-group analysis were performed, and the analyzed results are as follows. First, the level of emotional intelligence, self-resilience, positive human relationships, and school adaptation were higher in the participating group and the level of depression was lower than the group that did not participate. Second, as a result of multiple group analysis, the participating group had stronger influences on the paths of [emotional intelligence→self-resilience], [emotional intelligence→positive human relationship], [emotional intelligence→depression], [emotional intelligence→school adaptation], and [self-resilience→school adaptation] than those of non-participating group. Third, the participating group showed mediating effects from self-resilience, positive human relationships, and depression in the relationship between emotional intelligence and school adaptation. On the other hand, the non-participating group manifested significant mediating effects only from self-resilience and depression variables in the relationship between emotional intelligence and school adaptation.

  • In previous studies, stress in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) work environment was focused on lowering work performance by negatively affecting the emotions of organizational members. In the current corona pandemic era, as the ratio of organizational members working from home in a smart environment increases, the need for research on the effects of positive and negative stress on work performance is being raised. Accordingly, by applying the Affective Event Theory to the emotional effects of stress on employees' emotional responses, the effects on work performance were analyzed by dividing them into positive and negative emotions. Also, the effect of smart work on work performance was analyzed. This survey was commissioned by a research company and analyzed using Smart PLS 3.0 tool. Therefore, based on the research results, it was suggested that stress does not only negatively affect the emotions of employees, but that the challenge stress that appears in the mind to achieve a goal induces positive emotions in the employees' emotions and helps to improve work performance.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and validate an imagery-focused music listening program for improving emotion regulation among infertile women. For the program development in this study, the literature on emotional issues and coping strategy of infertile women was analyzed to establish theoretical foundation; and the literature on Supportive Music and Imagery (SMI) was analyzed to identify intervention components. Based on the established theoretical framework, the program was developed and finalized after evaluation of validity by four SMI professionals. The developed program was found to systematically target changes in emotions in the step-wise process of discovery, reinforcement, and affirmation of positive emotional resources. The list of music for future use was also identified and presented after systematic analysis of musical features in relation to valence and arousal of emotions. The imagery-focused music listening program was an initial approach to infertile women with SMI, which indicates the possibility of extended application for broadened clinical population.

  • Decades of psychological research have shown that emotion brings users various kinds of physical and psychological advantages and disadvantages. Moreover, this also impacts human decision-making. However, in spite of the weight of emotion, combined with HCI, relevant research is still insufficient. We hypothesized that the user's temporal emotion could influence the product evaluation, especially in terms of product usability. Two studies were carried out to investigate the effect of induced priming on user evaluations. In exp1, we manipulated participants' temporal emotions using positive and negative images from IAPS. In our results, we saw image priming had a statistically significant effect, with the positive condition group giving the product high ratings for usability. In exp2, emotional image manipulation was conducted with valence and arousal. As a result, we found that the variables of valence and arousal had some interaction effects. These studies have demonstrated that temporally induced emotion could affect users' emotion in different ways, in addition to influencing product evaluations.

  • Objects : The aim of this study was to determine whether the P3 elicited by the negative emotional stimuli is different to that by positive stimuli. Methods : We measured the event-related potentials, especially P3 elicited by the facial photographs in 12 healthy subjects. Subjects were instructed to feel and respond to the rare target facial photographs imbedded in frequent non-target checkerboards. Results : We found that amplitude of P3 elicited by negative emotional photographs was significantly larger than that by the positive stimuli in healthy subjects. Conclusion : These findings suggest that P3 elicited by facial stimuli may be used as a psychophy-siological variable of the emotional processing.
