  • The purpose of this study is to know what impression management(IM) tactics social work applicants use in their job interviews and what relation between their IM tactics and interviewers' evaluation exists. To accomplish this purpose, we reviewed the precedent researches about IM and conducted a qualitative study with the applicants in a community welfare center which adopted open approach in recruitment process. We analyzed the applicants' IM tactics through observing video-taped interview sessions and reviewing interviewers' rating paper. The results showed that the social work applicants mainly used self-promotion tactic for emphasizing their strengths and justification tactics for expressing their weaknesses. Some applicants often used fit-with-organization and other-enhancement belonged to ingratiation tactics. According to interviewers' rating results, the applicants with deep eye contact, calm attitude or smiling face gave a good impression to the interviewers. In the final discussion, an applicant who adopted diverse verbal and non-verbal tactics and expressed her point clearly was perceived attractive by the interviewers and accepted as the best choice. Based on this qualitative analysis, we have made several practical suggestions for social work applicants, social work researchers and social work organizations.

  • This study aimed to identify self-worth and self-deprecation trajectories and their associated factors among Korean adolescents. For these purposes, we used latent growth curve modeling involving 2,350 students who participated in the Korea Children and Youth Panel Survey in 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2015. Major findings are as follows: 1) Adolescents' self-worth and self-deprecation increased with time, but the speed gradually changed to a quadratic function model; and 2) the types of predictors affecting self-worth and self-deprecation were different. Specifically, the factors that affected only self-worth were adolescents' relationship with teachers and household income, and the factors that affected only self-deprecation were presence of disease and parental over interference. Factors affecting both self-worth and self-deprecation were child's sex, parental affection, peer trust, and peer alienation. These results suggest that independent intervention is needed for self-worth and self-deprecation. Furthermore, the results can be an important basis for establishing a more focused intervention strategy when intervening in self-worth and self-deprecation in adolescents.

The second purpose was to assess the relative contribution of coping strategies to maternal adaptation, controlling other variables that previously have been found to be important in determining maternal adaptation. Finally, the unique effect of coping strategies as predictors of maternal adaptation was examined. The subjects consisted of 92 mothers of handicapped children. They were asked to complete several self-report measures that were used to assess the variables of interest. The results indicated that coping was significantly related to maternal adaptation. Specifically, the use of confrontive coping, accepting responsibility, and escape-avoidance coping strategy were related to poorer maternal adaptation. On the other hand, painful problem solving and positive reappraisal strategy were related to better maternal adaptation. The step-wise regression results further indicated that coping strategies were significantly predict maternal adaptation. Specifical1y confrontive coping, accepting responsibility, and positive reappraisal coping strategy contributed significantly to the prediction of maternal adaptation compared to the other variables. Finally, the confrontive coping, accepting responsibility, positive reappraisal strategies turned out to contribute substantially to maternal adaptation even after several other variables were statistically controlled in conservative way. Implications of the findings for social work interventions was discussed.

To this end, data were collected through a structured survey on 302 social workers in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Gangwon area to identify the importance and execution degree of self-determination components of the developmental disabled, and descriptive analysis, differences. analysis, matrix analysis was applied. As a result of the analysis, the importance and performance degree were evaluated at an absolute level lower than the positive level, and the overall average standard execution degree was found to be applied relatively later, and the difference between the two levels was statistically significant. Meanwhile, goal setting and achievement, self-management and regulation, branch recognition and perception, etc. were identified as under-action elements as disparity between importance and performance. Therefore, in order to improve the balanced positivity of social workers and people with developmental disabilities in consideration of the reciprocity of human rights protection, applied behavior analysis, positive behavior support, and individualized service plan based on the application of a person-centered program and self-determination improvement program are applied. Suggestions were made on detailed strategies such as accounting.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify that several theories explaining the determinants of welfare expenditure is applied to the family policy expenditure and to find out if there' re unique determinants of the family policy expenditure. We analyzed the data (OECD 14 countries for 1980~2005) by pooled time series analysis. As for industrialization theory, female labor force participation rate has positive effect on family policy expenditure while population under 15-year children has negative effect, which refers to the demand of family policies is that of female workers, not children's. Power resource theory is applied to the determinants of family policy expenditure as those of welfare expenditure. Women's political & economic empowerment has partly positive effects on family policy expenditure, which is the evidence of the effectiveness of feminist theory. In the institutional theory, we verified the effect of policy legacy but couldn't find out the crowding-out effect. The theoretical implication of this study is the empirical verification of the theories explaining the determinants of welfare expenditure being applied to the family policy expenditure. We also suggested the political and institutional foundation to effectively respond to the new social risks in spite of budget constraints, which can be a policy implication.

  • To investigate the reliability, validity of posttraumatic growth among Korean cancer caregiver, 295 participants were asked to complete a Korean posttraumatic growth inventory, translated from the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI; J Trauma Stress 1996; 9: 455.471), together with the Caregiver burden scale, life style interruption scale, economic burden scale and positive adaptation scale, social support scale and questions about religious and demographic factors. Cronbach's alpha was 0.95 for the K-PTGI, indicating sufficient internal consistencies. Construct and Criterion validity were also supported. K-PTGI appeared to be a sound measure for the experience of posttraumatic growth in cancer caregivers and this study result will be able to contribute to facilitate future research.
