  • The purpose of this study is to suggest some direction to support learning of students in college of engineering. It results from the assumption that engineering education accreditation should come with assessment of the educational process. To analyze the learning process, this study analyzed 5 categories - involvement in and out of instruction, faculty-student interaction, teaching-learning outcomes, and the system of student support. The Research method was questionnaire, and T-test and hierarchical linear model were used. The major findings are as follows. Major-level of satisfaction in teaching-learning and optional-level of satisfaction in teaching-learning are good. But the degree of self-directed learning activities and student-faculty interaction is low, and writing attitude and learning outcomes are not good. Student-faculty interaction, high-order thinking activities and active involvement have a good influence on learning outcomes. So this study suggests to enhance active involvement in instruction, high-order thinking activities, writing skills, and interaction with faculty for the improvement of quality of higher education.

  • This study have an intention of identifying multiple intelligence aptitude, career tendency and career maturity of verbal writing gifted students. 60 verbal writing gifted students who have achieved success in the writing contest were collected for this study. The data was selected through survey MI instruments from the students. The results are summarized as follow. First, verbal writing gifted students' MI profiles were revealed that linguistic intelligence, musical intelligence were strong, and logicalmathematical intelligence was weak. Second, many verbal writing gifted students showed strong musical career aptitude and strong linguistic career aptitude but few writing gifted students showed strong logical-mathematical aptitude. It was revealed that logical-mathematical interest had significant relationship with logical-mathematical achievement in the p-value<.01. Third, there were many linguistic career tendency students & interpersonal career tendency students. But there was no naturalist career tendency student. Musical career tendency, naturalist career tendency showed big differences between strong career aptitude and career tendency. Fourth, career maturity of verbal writing gifted student was very high. The finding can be explained that most of them have characteristics of early career maturity. Parents, teachers, specialists have to provide career information matching strong aptitude and aptitude improving education matching career tendency to the verbal writing gifted students to choose their career successfully.

  • The study investigated undergraduates' citation use and plagiarism awareness. A questionnaire method was used and was given to undergraduates in a university located in Seoul. Upon investigation, undergraduates recognized the importance and the need of citation and were partly applying citations. However, upon further investigation of undergraduates' citation learning with citation questions, very few of respondents had knowledge of correct citation usage. Undergraduates mostly cited print materials and information from the internet. They used books in case of print materials and web materials provided by academic institutions. They suggested that the university should teach citation usage through a citation and plagiarism awareness program. It is necessary for library use education (information literacy education) as well as university to teach citation education including citation type and how to write it.

This study examined relationships between language use and their subjective well-being, which consists of life satisfaction and feeling about life. For this, 126 college students wrote an essay and responded to the subjective well-being scale. Then we analyzed their writings through KLIWC (Korean Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count) and compared language use between the high and the low groups of subjective well-being. We also examined the relationships between KLIWC factors and the two sub-factors of subjective well being. The results shows that various individual factors of KLIWC reflect participants' subjective well-being and provids preliminary descriptive data on language use and subjective well-being.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of negotiation-based peer and self-assessment activities on science-gifted students' modeling and students' perceptions of the impact of these assessment activities on modeling. For this purpose, 92 students in the 11th grade of a science high school, in a metropolitan city, were selected to conduct peer assessment, self-assessment, and science writing activities with four topics of Advanced Chemistry. The students' modeling was analyzed in terms of 'structuring scientific concepts', 'logic', 'multiple representations' and 'communication'. Based on the results, the mean scores of modeling increased for each element of evaluation according to the progress of assessment activities. Students' responses in the survey and interviews showed that students perceived the results of student assessment activities as valid, students also recognized the benefit of these assessment activities by referring to the assessment results before their next writing assignment.

  • This study analyzed the contents of Goodreads review data, which is a social cataloging service with the participation of book users around the world, to identify the preference factors that affect book users' book recommendations in the library information service environment. To understand user preferences from a more detailed point of view, sub-datasets for each rating group, each book, and each user were constructed in the sample selection process. Stratified sampling was also performed based on the result of topic modeling of review text data to include various topics. As a result, a total of 90 preference factors belonging to 7 categories('Content', 'Character', 'Writing', 'Reading', 'Author', 'Story', 'Form') were identified. Also, the general preference factors revealed according to the ratings, as well as the patterns of preference factors revealed in books and users with clear likes and dislikes were identified. The results of this study are expected to contribute to more sophisticated recommendations in future recommendation systems by identifying specific aspects of user preference factors.

  • With the recent rise in the use of AI-based online translation tools, interest in their methods and effects on education has grown. This study involved 30 prospective elementary school teachers who completed an English writing task using an AI-based online translation tool. The study focused on assessing the impact of these tools on English writing skills and their practical applications. It examined the usability, educational value, and the advantages and disadvantages of the AI translation tool. Through data collected via writing tests, surveys, and interviews, the study revealed that the use of translation tools positively affects English writing skills. From the learners' perspective, these tools were perceived to provide support and convenience for learning. However, there was also recognition of the need for educational strategies to effectively use these tools, alongside concerns about methods to enhance the completeness or accuracy of translations and the potential for over-reliance on the tools. The study concluded that for effective utilization of translation tools, the implementation of educational strategies and the role of the teacher are crucial.
