  • In this study, we examine the mediating effect of resilience on the relationship between grit and self-determination in college students in order to provide basic data for ensuring the positive development required for college students to understand their collective, as well as their individual, abilities. This study comprised college students sampled from three cities in Chungcheong province: Daejeon, Sejong, and Cheonan. The collected data were analyzed using AMOS 22.0 statistical software. The results of this study are as follows. First, firmness of mind and courage in the face of hardship (based on the resilience of college students) was found to have a statistically significant, positive effect on that resilience. Second, this grit in college students has a statistically significant, positive effect on their self-determination. Third, the resilience from college students' self-determination revealed that resilience has a statistically significant, positive impact on their self-determination. Fourth, we found after verifying the mediating effect of resilience in the relationship between grit and self-determination of college students that resilience has a mediating effect in the relationship between grit and self-determination. This study is significant in that it provided empirical grounds for self-determination in college students by identifying the relationship between the motivational variables affecting their self-determination.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of the GRIT of the students who major in landscaping upon their will to continue online learning and the mediating effect of the academic engagement in this process. For this purpose, the researcher surveyed the landscape major students in the universities located in Seoul and Gyeonggi regions, from November 25, 2021, to December 9, 2021. The result of the analysis of the responses from 296 participants showed that the GRIT of the landscaping major students during online learning in their universities had a positive and significant impact on their academic engagement and learning persistence. Also, academic engagement had a positive and significant impact on learning persistence. In addition, in the relationship between GRIT of the landscaping major students in online learning and their learning persistence, academic engagement had a significant mediating effect. The findings of this study indicated that the GRIT and the academic engagement of a student were important in order to enhance the learning persistence during online learning for landscaping major students. Due to the nature of landscaping departments, where practical classes are important because the subject itself is a practice-oriented one and the subject covers a variety of areas, it is the implication of this study that the internal factors of students, as well as the external factors of the university, need positive improvement to reinforce the academic engagement during online learning.

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the mediating effect of the change of grit in the relationship that the change of exercise time of adolescents leads to the change of self-esteem. The data of 2,438 students (male = 1,327, female = 1,111) were used for the analysis, excluding cases including missing values in the data from the wave 1 and wave 2 of the Korean Children and Youth Panel 2018. The standardized residual score generated through regression analysis from the values in wave 1 to the values in wave 2 was used as a variable for the amount of change. As a results, the correlation between the amount of change in all three variables was found to be significant. Result of the hierarchical regression analysis revealed that it was confirmed that the partial mediating effect that the change of exercise time directly or indirectly affects the change of self-esteem through the change of grit is significant. These results indicate that adolescents, exercise time is gradually decreasing as the grade goes up, and this has an effect on the reduction of grit and self-esteem.

  • This study aims to present basic data for preventing drop-out intention by identifying the mechanisms in which academic stress affects drop-out intention through self-esteem, peer relationships, and grit in high school students. The subjects of the study were 283 high school students purposively selected from three cities and counties in Chungcheongnam-do. The data were analysed using SPSS PC+ Win. ver. 25.0 and SPSS PROCESS macro ver. 4.2. The applied statistical techniques were descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and moderated mediation effect analysis. As a result of the study, first, academic stress showed a positive correlation with the drop-out intention, but a negative correlation with self-esteem, grit, and peer relationship. Second, grit not only played a moderating role in enhancing the relationship between self-esteem and peer relationship, but also played a moderated mediating role in the path of academic stress → self-esteem → peer relationship → drop-out intention. It was confirmed that the academic stress of high school students has a direct effect on the drop-out intention, and that self-esteem, peer relationships, and grit can be used as important factors to prevent the school drop-out.

  • The purpose of this study is a descriptive study to identify the five factors of personality and grit on academic burnout of nursing students. The subjects of the study were 285 nursing college students attending the department of nursing located in S city. Data were collected through a self-report questionnaire from April 11 to June 13. Data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 29.0 program with descriptive statistics, the independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. In the result of this study, academic burnout had a negative correlation with grit(r=-.425, p<.001), agreeableness(r=-.330, p<.001). On the other hand, it showed a positive correlation with neuroticism (r=.384, p<.001). Two personality factors(neuroticism, agreeableness), major satisfaction, and grit were found to have a significant impact on academic burnout in nursing students. Therefore, It is necessary to develop counseling methods that can prevent academic burnout by utilizing the five personality factors of nursing students and to develop programs that can increase major satisfaction and grit and reduce academic burnout.
