Ultrasensitive Crack-based Mechanosensor Inspired by Spider's Sensory Organ (거미의 감각기관을 모사한 초민감 균열기반 진동압력센서)

  • Spiders detect even tiny vibrations through their vibrational sensory organs. Leveraging their exceptional vibration sensing abilities, they can detect vibrations caused by prey or predators to plan attacks or perceive threats, utilizing them for survival. This paper introduces a nanoscale crack-based sensor mimicking the spider's sensory organ. Inspired by the slit sensory organ used by spiders to detect vibrations, the sensor with the cracks detects vibrations and pressure with high sensitivity. By controlling the depth of these cracks, they developed a sensor capable of detecting external mechanical signals with remarkable sensitivity. This sensor achieves a gauge factor of 16,000 at 2% strain with an applied tensile stress of 10 N. With high signal-to-noise ratio, it accurately recognizes desired vibrations, as confirmed through various evaluations of external force and biological signals (speech pattern, heart rate, etc.). This underscores the potential of utilizing biomimetic technology for the development of new sensors and their application across diverse industrial fields.

  • 본 논문은 진공을 이용한 흡착방식과 바퀴형 이동방식을 사용하는 벽면이동로봇의 구성 및 벽면 균열 검출 알고리즘에 관한 연구로써, 카메라와 함께 임베디드 시스템을 구성하였으며 Convolutional Neural Network를 이용한 머신러닝 알고리즘을 통해 균열을 감지하고 검출된 균열의 영상과 위치정보를 서버(관리자 장치)로 전송하는 통신 환경을 구축하였다. 균열 검출 성능을 검증하기 위해 균열 데이터를 이용하여 실험하고 결과를 제시하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 목조건물의 Crack만을 움직여 Data set을 증강하는 기법을 제안한다. 이 기법은 이미지 내 Crack Detection의 학습 데이터를 만들기 위해 이미지의 전체적인 값으로 Flip, Rotation, Shift, Rescale 등의 변환을 통해 Data Augmentation을 진행하는 대신 Crack이라는 하나의 Object만을 가지고 새로운 데이터를 생성한다. 이때 Object는 관심 영역 내에서만 연산되어 기존의 방법보다 더욱 많은 데이터를 얻을 수 있으며, Crack이 관심 영역 밖으로 이동하지 않기 때문에 이상치 혹은 결측치가 존재하지 않는 데이터를 얻을 수 있다. 또한 Crack이 존재하지 않는 이미지에도 임의적으로 Crack을 생성하여 새로운 데이터를 만들 수 있다. 결론적으로 본 논문에서는 Crack Detection의 학습을 위하여 기존 방법보다 우수한 성능의 Data Augmentation을 제안하였다.

Crack Detection of Composite Cylinders under external pressure using the Acoustic Emission (AE 기법을 이용한 외부수압을 받는 복합재 원통의 균열 검출)

  • The studies on the non-destructive testing methods of the composite materials are very important for improving their reliability and safety. AE(Acoustic Emission) can evaluate the defects by detecting the emitting strain energy when elastic waves are generated by the generation and growth of a crack, plastic deformation, fiber breakage, matrix cleavage or delamination. In this paper, the AE signals of the filament wound composite cylinder and sandwich cylinder during the pressure test were measured and analyzed. The signal characteristics of PVDF sensors were measured, and an AE signal analyzer which had the band-pass filter and L-C resonance filter were designed and fabricated. Also, the crack detection capability of the fabricated AE signal analyzer wes evaluated during the pressure tests of the filament wound composite cylinder and the sandwich cylinder.

  • To perform the realtime strain and fracture monitoring of the smart composite structures, two optical fiber sensor systems are proposed. The two types of the coherent sources were used for fracture signal detection - EDFA with FBG and EDFA with Fabry-Perot filter. These sources were coupled to EFPI sensors imbedded in composite specimens. To understand the characteristics of matrix crack signals, at first, we performed tensile tests using surface attached PZT sensors by changing the thickness and width of the specimens. This paper describes the implementation of time-frequency analysis such as short time Fourier transform (STFT) and wavelet transform (WT) for the quantitative evaluation of fracture signals. The experimental result shows the distinctive signal features in frequency domain due to the different specimen shapes. And, from the test of tensile load monitoring using optical fiber sensor systems, measured strain agreed with the value of electric strain gage and the fracture detection system could detect the moment of damage with high sensitivity to recognize the onset of micro-crack fracture signal.

  • This paper suggested the electric potential method with a bridge circuit concept for the detection of the location and crack growth of carbon fiber reinforced composites to reduce the measurement numbers. 2 pairs of electrodes were fabricated on the center cracked thin composite plates, and potential changes at one pair of adjacent electrodes were observed while external voltage input was applied to the other pair of adjacent electrodes. The effects of the size and interval of electrodes, location and propagating direction of center cracks were investigated by experiments and finite element analyses. Detectable crack size was influenced by the electrode interval rather than the electrode size, and crack detection was enhanced as the size and interval of electrodes were smaller. Besides, output potential changes were larger as the crack grew and was nearer the voltage input electrodes.

  • 현대사회의 시설물 중 다수가 콘크리트를 사용하여 건설되었고, 재료적 성질로 인해 균열, 박락, 백태 등의 손상이 발생하고 있고 시설물 관리가 요구되고 있다. 하지만, 현재 시설물 관리는 사람의 육안 점검을 정기적으로 수행하고 있으나, 높은 시설물이나 맨눈으로 확인할 수 없는 시설물의 경우 관리가 어렵다. 이에 본 논문에서는 다양한 영상장비를 활용해 시설물의 이미지에서 균열을 분류하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 균열 분류 알고리즘은 산업 이상 감지 데이터 세트인 MVTec AD 데이터 세트를 사전 학습하고 L2 auto-encoder를 사용하여 균열을 분류한다. MVTec AD 데이터 세트를 사전학습시킴으로써 균열, 박락, 백태 등의 특징을 학습시킬 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

Investigation of the Electromechanical Response of Smart Ultra-high Performance Fiber Reinforced Concretes Under Flexural (휨하중을 받는 스마트 초고강도 섬유보강 콘크리트의 전기역학적 거동 조사)

  • This study investigated the electromechanical response of smart ultra-high performance fiber reinforced concretes (S-UHPFRCs) under flexural loading to evaluate the self-sensing capacity of S-UHPFRCs in both tension and compression region. The electrical resistivity of S-UHPFRCs under flexural continuously changed even after first cracking due to the deflection-hardening behavior of S-UHPFRCs with the appearance of multiple microcracks. As the equivalent bending stress increased, the electrical resistivity of S-UHPFRCs decreased from 976.57 to 514.05 kΩ(47.0%) as the equivalent bending stress increased in compression region, and that did from 979.61 to 682.28 kΩ(30.4%) in tension region. The stress sensitivity coefficient of S-UHPFRCs in compression and tension region was 1.709 and 1.098 %/MPa, respectively. And, the deflection sensitivity coefficient of S-UHPFRCs in compression region(30.06 %/mm) was higher than that in tension region(19.72 %/mm). The initial deflection sensing capacity of S-UHPFRCs was almost 50% of each deflection sensitivity coefficient, and it was confirmed that it has an excellent sensing capacity for the initial deflection. Although both stress- and deflection-sensing capacity of S-UHPFRCs under flexural were higher in compression region than in tension region, S-UHPFRCs are sufficient as a self-sensing material to be applied to the construction field.

A Study on the Fatigue Crack Evaluation Method of Railway Bogie Frame (철도차량 대차를 피로균열 평가법 연구)

  • In this study, fatigue crack growth rate of a cracked railway bogie frame under variable amplitude loading is predicted by applying linear elastic fracture mechanics. For this purpose, we find the critical points by reference surveying on cracked railway bogie frames. And we make an effective load history by synthesizing the dynamic load measured from the critical points of railway bogie frame during commercial line operation and the static load calculated from structural analysis. Crack growth analyses are performed at the 3 critical points under the commercial operation loading condition by assuming an initial crack size as 40 mm. and the results are compared with the experimental results from Japanese railway bogie frame crack growth case. From the analysis results, we find that around 500,000 km operating distance is necessary to bring crack growth from the initial crack to unstable crack. And it takes around 3.8 normal operating years. We conclude that it is enough time to detect the crack between normal maintenance period.

  • 스마트 구조기술이란 교량이나 건물 등 구조물에 생명체처럼 감지하고 말할 수 있는 센서를 삽입하거나 부착하여 과도한 하중이나 균열 등 이상상태를 검출, 대형사고를 예방하는 기술이다. 우리나라에서는 남해대교에 광섬유 센서를 적용하여 차량이동에 따른 교량의 동적 변형률을 이미 측정하고 있으며 지반병형을 방지하기 위한 강철파일에 광섬유 센서를 부착하여 지반변형을 모니터링하는 연구도 계속되고 있다.
