Gamiguibitang(GMGBT) is used in amenorrhea and female infertility caused by ovulation disorder. An attempt was made to evaluate the influences of GMGBT on the serum concentrations of FSH, LH, estradiol(E2) and progesterone, the histological and optical changes of ovary of rats. The results of the study were as follows: 1. Blood FSH level significantly increased in experimental group controlled by four times quantity as compared with control group. 2. Blood LH level increased in experimental group controlled by four times quantity as compared with control group, which showed no efficacy. 3. Blood E2 level increased in experimental group controlled by four times quantity as compared with control group, which showed no efficacy. 4. Blood progesterone level significantly decreased in experimental group controlled by double quantity as compared with control group. 5. In optically observations of ovary, weight of ovary significantly increased in experimental group controlled by double quantity as compared with control group 6. In histological observations of ovary, ovulation significantly increased in experimental group controlled by both double and four times quantity as compared with control group. According to these results, it can be concluded that GMGBT influences the pituitary gland and ovary to increase the ovulation of rats.
In order to compare and examine the effect the effect of Kuibitang, Kamiondarmtang and Kuibiondarmtang against stress, I induced immobilization stress by binding rats for 200mins under a little anesthetized with ether. I classified as normal group, control group which administrated 0.9% NaCl solution, sample A group which administrated Kuibitang, sample B group which administrated Kamiondarmtang and sample C group which administrated Kuibiondarmtang. I got some conclusions by measuring amounts of norepinephrine, epinephrine, triiodothyronine($T_3$) and thyroxine($T_4$) in 1, 3 and 5 days, respectively. 1. Norepinephrine showed high meaningful decrease after 1. 3 and 5 days in sample A group. It showed little decrease in sample B group. It showed a little meaningful decrease after 1 day and high meaningful decrease after 3 and 5 days in sample C group. 2. Epinephrine showed high meaningful decrease after 3 and 5 days in sample A group. It showed little decrease in sample B group. It showed a little meaningful decrease after 3 days and high meaningful decrese after 5 days in sample C group. 3. Triiodothyronine($T_3$) inclined to approach normal value in sample A, B, C group in comparision wit control group but didn't have high meaning. 4. Thyroxine($T_4$) inclined to approach normal va1ue in sample A, B, C group in comparision with contrl group but didn't have high meaning. As I consider the effect of experiments, I think that Kuibitang and Kuibiondarmtang have some effects against stress and it is right to apply to the treatment of stress.
Objectives : As depression falls into the category of Wuljeung, Gamiguibi-Tang(Jiaweiguipitang) is the standard prescription to cure Wuljeung. This study develops a questionnaire for building the guidelines to administer Gamiguibi-Tang to depression and evaluates reliability and validity of questionnaire. Methods : With extracting the text related to depression and Gamiguibi-Tang through total 9 Korean medicine books and consulting the experts, the study selected 80 items and converted them into a questionnaire. It surveyed the neuropsychiatry professors and the medical specialists three times by Delphi method, and lastly selected 21 final items of a questionnaire. On the basis of the questionnaire, it collected total 216 samples and tested their reliability and validity. Results : 21 items all didn't reduce total Cronbach alpha coefficient and satisfied test-retest reliability. As a result of factor analysis, totally 5 factors were extracted such as mental state, sleep, accompaniment, fatigue and weakness. Finally, in comparing a depression group with a normal control group, two groups all showed meaningful difference in each 21 items' point, the sum of factor 1 to 5 items' points, and the sum of 21 items' points. Conclusions : The questionnaire on the updated depression prescription guideline of Gamiguibi-Tang satisfied both of reliability and validity. Later it can help objectifying to apply Gamiguibi-Tang to depression cure.
Gamiguibi-tang (GGBT) is a traditional herbal medicine generally used to treat anemia, insomnia, anxiety, and nervousness. GGBT is being commercially produced in the form of extract granule and the quality control methods are specified in the Korean Herbal Pharmacopeia (KHP). However, there is no method to simultaneously analyze compound preparations. In this study, a HPLC method was developed and validated for the simultaneous determination of marker compounds in GGBT. And the contents of marker components and biological activities of the commercial GGBT extract granules (GGBT-2 and GGBT-3) were compared with those of the GGBT decoction (GGBT-1). We confirmed the robustness of simultaneous analytical method by monitoring the contents of the commercial GGBT products and carrying out validation. The marker components of GGBT were geniposide ($8.03{\sim}12.70{\mu}g/mL$), paeoniflorin ($2.79{\sim}4.25{\mu}g/mL$) and glycyrrhizic acid ($5.06{\sim}6.30{\mu}g/mL$). DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities were 47.34~63.17% and 21.52~33.61% in the GGBT products concentration of $1,000{\mu}g/mL$, respectively. The GGBT products significantly decreased NO, iNOS and COX-2 production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW 264.7 macrophages in a concentration-dependent manner. The GGBT-2 had higher contents of marker components and biological activities than GGBT-1 and GGBT-3. The research suggest that be used in developing quality control methods for enhancing the quality of herbal medicines.
Objectives This study was designed to compare the effects Gwibi-tang herbal-medication with Danggwisusan herbal-medication for patients with acute cervical and lumbar sprains due to a traffic accident. Methods This study was carried out on 119 acute cervical & lumbar sprain patients by traffic accident. We divided these patients into 2 groups. Group A was treated with Gwibi-tang and Group B was treated with Danggwisusan three times a day for three days. Each patient was treated with acupuncture, physical therapy and two types of herbal-medication. We measured the numerical rating scale (NRS) at two time points : pre-treatment (Tx). and post-Tx. Results 1. The NRS scores significantly decreased after treatment in all patients. 2. The changed NRS scores of nuchal pain showed a borderline significant difference between Group A and Group B (p=0.067). 3. In sub-group analysis, Gwibi-tang showed a greater effect on NRS scores of lumbago pain in female patients (p=0.068) and patients under 30s (p=0.054) compared to Danggwisusan. Conclusions In this study, both types of herbal-medication; Gwibi-tang and Danggwisusan were highly effective on acute cervical and lumbar sprain patients. Especially Gwibi-tang (Group A) was more effective than Danggwisusan (Group B) in reducing the initial nuchal pain. Also Gwibi-tang was more effective for lumbago pain in female and patients under 30s.
A varicose vein of the lower limbs is dilated, tortuous and elongated vein. Western medical treatment involves conservative management, sclerotherapy, and surgery. Currently, internal medicinal treatment is inadequate. Recently a patient was diagnosed with varicose veins of the lower limbs based on clinical symptoms. In this case, Guibi-tang was administered and clinical symptoms improved. This report suggests that oriental medicinal treatment is efficacious in treating varicose veins of the lower limbs. We think that further oriental medical studies on various surgical diseases are needed.
This study aimed to compare the anti-stress effect of Guibitang with Ascorbic Acid on the guinea pigs in heat or forced swimming stress. the experimental animals were heated in hot room$(34{\pm}2^{\circ}C)$ for 2 hours in a day during 7 days. Forced swimming stress was loaded by forcing guinea pigs to swim in a oval tub for 2 minutes in a day during 7days. And administered 1.0mg/100g of Ascorbic Acid or 86.0mg/100g of Guibitang extract formonce befor stress. 1. In brain, the contents of norepinephrine in group of the heat of forced swimming stress, in case administered Ascorbic Acid and in case administered Guibitang extract with Ascorbic Acid significantly decreases as compared with these in case administered non Ascoric Acid. 2. In brain, the contents of epinephrine in group of the forced swimming stress, in case administered Guibitang extract with Ascorbic Acid significantly decreases as compared with these in case administered non Ascorbic Acid. 3. In brain, the contents of dopamine in group of the heating stress, in case administered Guibitang extract with Ascorbic Acid significantly decreases as compared with these in case administered non Ascorbic Acid, and these in group of the forced swimming stress in case administered Ascorbic Acid and in case administered Guibitang extract without Ascorbic Acid and in case administered Guibitang extract with Ascorbic Acid significantly decreases as compared with these in case administered non Ascorbic Acid.
Gagamguibitang, a composite Korean medicinal drug prescribed by us, was evaluated for its sedative effects by measurements of potentiation on pentobarbital-induced sleeping time, anticonvulsive activities in animal model, inhibitory effect on GABA transaminase activity, and antioxidative activities in vitro- and/or in vivo assay. The results were summerized as follows : 1. Gagamguibitang showed about 2-fold prolongation of pentobarbital-induced sleeping time compared to the control group after administration(p.o) with 2.0g/kg of mice body weight. 2. Gagamguibitang strongly lengthened onset time of pentylenetetrazole-induced convulsion, shortened the duration of convulsion and diminished the lethality after treatment(p.o) with 1.0g/kg of mice body weight. 3. Gagamguibitang inhibited dose-dependently the brain GABA transaminase activity in vitro compared to the control group and in vivo compared to the pentylenetetrazole-treated group. 4. Gagamguibitang inhibited effectively brain lipid peroxidation by 45.8% at a dose of l0mg/ml in vitro and by 47.5% after oral treatment with 0.5g/kg of mice body weight in vivo assay. 5. Gagamguibitang exhibited a potent scavenging activity on DPPH radical in a dose-dependent manner with ca. 92% activity at l0mg/ml. As a result, Gagamguibitang can be useful for the effective sedative drug in clinical application.
In order to study the effects of Guibitanggamibang on blood pressure and hyperlipidemia, experimental study were performed on hypertension in normal and SHR rats, and on hyperlipidemia induced by Triton WR-1339 in normal rats. Also the level of total cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, phospholipid and transaminase(GOT, GPT) were measured. The results are summarized as follows: 1. After Guibitanggamibang was given to normal rats, the results showed that inhibitory effects on blood pressure and heart beat were not statistically significant. 2. After Guibitanggamibang was given to SHR rats, the results showed that inhibitory effects on blood pressure were statistically significant. 3. In the model of hyperlipidemia induced by 2% cholesterol food, Guibitanggarrubang had significantly-decreasing effects on total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-choleste rol, Transaminase(GOT, GPT) level in serum. 4. In the model of hyperlipidemia induced by Triton WR-1339, Guibitanggamibang had significantly-decreasing effects on total cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL-cholesterol, phospholipid, Transaminase(GOT, GPT) level in serum. 5. In the model of hyperlipidemia induced by Triton WR-1339, Guibitanggamibang had no significant effects on HDL-cholesterol level in serum. These results show that Guibitanggamibang(歸脾湯加味方) has significant inhibitory effects on blood pressure and hyperlipidemia and that it could be clinically applied for hypertension and hyperlipidemia.
Purpose : The object of this study was to observe anti-cachexic effects of Kwibi-tang extracts (KBTe) on non-small cell lung carcinoma (squamous epithelial carcinoma), NCI-H520, xenograft Balb/c nu-nu nude mice. Methods : Three different dosages of KBTe, 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg were orally administered once a day for 42 days from 11 days after tumor cell inoculation. Six groups, each of 8 mice per group were used in the present study. Changes on the body weight, the epididymal fat weight and serum IL-6 levels were detected with the thicknesses of deposited cervical brown adipose tissue and their mean diameters to monitor the tumor-related anticachexic effects. Results : Deceases on the body weight and gains were also demonstrated in tumor-bearing control with increases of serum IL-6 levels, decreases of epididymal fat pad weight, atrophic changes of cervical brown adipose tissues. These are means that tumor-related cachexia are induced by tumor cell inoculations in the present study. However, these tumor-related cachexia were markedly inhibited by all three different dosages of KBTe treatment as compared with tumor-bearing control. 5-FU showed somewhat deteriorated the tumor-related cachexia in the present study. Conclusion : The results obtained in this study suggest that over 50 mg/kg of KBTe showed favorable anticachexic effects on the NCI-H520 cell xenograft. However, detail mechanism studies should be conducted in future with the screening of the biological active compounds in this herb.
