  • In this research, we applied a problem-based learning(PBL) method for one semester, and measured critical thinking disposition, self efficacy for group work and self confidence of nursing process of Nursing Process and Critical Thinking subjects before and after application. This research is one group pre-test and post-test design. The subjects of this study were collected using an online questionnaire for second-year nursing students located in G city, and 108 students participated in the final. The result of this research showed that critical thinking disposition(p=.000), self efficacy for group work(p=.003) and self confidence of nursing process(p=.000) increased statistically significantly after problem-based learning(PBL). This findings indicate that problem-based learning(PBL) is effective in improving critical thinking disposition, self efficacy for group work and self confidence of nursing process. Therefore, If problem-oriented learning (PBL) is expanded and applied to nursing education, it is believed that it will be effective in enhancing the core competencies of nursing students.

  • In this study, 46 patients from a local hemodialysis center were enrolled to assess the effects of a self-motivated virtual reality (VR) exercise program on the heart rate variability and quality of life control in hemodialysis patients. The VR group (n = 23) completed a VR exercise program, where the subjects performed the exercise 40 min per session, 3 sessions per week, for 8weeks. After the exercise program, the heart rate variability and quality of life were measured. The VR group showed significant improvement in the heart rate variability and quality of life. The self-motivated VR exercise program provided both the role of supervisor as well as feedback, which is important for hemodialysis patients. Therefore, a self-motivated VR exercise program may be a useful tool for improving the psychosocial function in chronic disease patients undergoing hemodialysis.

  • This study's purpose is to determine the effects of aroma inhalation on preoperative pain and anxiety of the elderly preparing to undergo a spine surgery. A Quasi-experimental design, with non-equivalent control group non-synchronized design was used in this study. Blended essential oils with frankincense, marjoram and mandarin were inhaled twice in the experimental group (n=30). The control group (n=30) was treated with the standard preoperative care. Pain, state anxiety, and vital sign were measured twice (before and after). The results of this study showed that pain (t=-1.223, p=.226), systolic blood pressure (t=-0.211, p=.833), diastolic blood pressure (t=0.638, p=.526), and respiration rate (t=0.734, p=.466) were not statistically significant in the experimental and the control group. There were significant differences in state anxiety (t=-3.202, p=.002) and pulse rate (t=-0.213, p=.037) in the experimental group compared to the control group. According to the results, aroma inhalation is an effective nursing intervention for relieving anxiety in surgical patients.

  • This study is designed as a one group pretest-posttest design the practice to investigate the effects of convergence cadaver practice on nursing professionalism and major satisfaction of nursing students. The participants were 133 nursing students who were in the anatomy course of M college from October 1 to October 30, 2018. The nursing professionalism resulted in changes from 3.50±.87 before the convergence cadaver practice to 3.44±.98 (t=.98, p<.330) after the convergence cadaver practice, and major satisfaction changed from 3.83±.81 before the convergence cadaver practice to 3.91±.78 (t=-.95, p<.345) after the convergence cadaver practice. The correlation between nursing professionalism and major satisfaction showed a positive correlation (r=.54, p>.001). Partial results of sub-areas showed increase, however, future studies that aim to develop and investigate the effects of specific convergence education program which includes cadaver practice to enhance qualitative structure of specialized foundation knowledge are needed.

  • The purpose of this study was conducted to provide emergency nursing class using evidence-based practice (EBP) and to examine its effects. This study was a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design. Data were collected from 54 students in the third year of nursing at a university, between September 2, 2019 and December 9, 2019. An emergency nursing class using EBP consisting of 5-step EBP components was provided through 13 sessions. Lectures, team-based learning, and case-based learning were provided. Data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 21.0 program with descriptive statistics and paired t-test. After the class, there were significant increase in EBP beliefs (t=-2.76, p=.008) and EBP competency (t=-5.035, p<.001). However, critical thinking disposition was not significantly increased. The findings indicate that emergency nursing classes using evidence-based practice is an efficient teaching-learning method to improve EBP beliefs and competency.
