This paper proposes a new $H_{\infty}$ T-S fuzzy controller with a novel integral control for induction motors which have nonlinear dynamics. The $H_{\infty}$ T-S fuzzy controller is used for the nonlinearity and robustness and weighted integral is used for tracking problem and control performance. A T-S Fuzzy controller is the fuzzy combination of local linear controllers considering the overall stability, and LMI(Linear Matrix Inequlity) is used for determining the gains of linear controllers. The tracking problem of an induction motor is changed into regulator problem by introducing the integral control technique with weighting factor, diminishing the conservatism of $H_{\infty}$ T-S fuzzy controller.
This paper proposes a sampling-based sensitivity method for dealing with electromagnetic coupled design problems effectively. The black-box modeling technique is basically applied to obtain an optimum regardless of how strong the electromagnetic, thermal and structural analyses are coupled with each other. To achieve this, Kriging surrogate models are produced in a hyper-cubic local window with the center of a current design point. Then design sensitivity values are extracted from the differentiation of basis functions which consist of the models. The proposed method falls under a hybrid optimization method which takes advantages of the sampling-based and the sensitivity-based methods. Owing to the aforementioned feature, the method can be applied even to electromagnetic problems of which the material properties are strongly coupled with thermal or structural outputs. To examine the accuracy and validity of the proposed method, a strongly nonlinear mathematical example and a coil design problem for local induction heating are tested.

In this paper, a compact L-shaped shorted pin patch to be used at local oscillator port in radar detector is proposed. Shorted pin patch operates as short-open cavity while conventional patch operates as open-open cavity. Shorted pins are L-shaped to obtain quarter wave length and three-quarter wave length resonance for the fundamental(X-band) and $2^{nd}(3^{rd})$(K- and Ka-band) mode resonance frequency, respectively. Thus, the proposed patch can be compact. It is also possible to operate at triple band(X-, K-, Ka-band) with small return loss in radar detector, It is expected that shorted pin patch could improve radar detector sensitivity.

Though optimization method had been used for long time for the optimal design of ship structure, design variables in the most cases were assumed to be continuous real values or it was not easy to solve the mixed integer optimum design problems using the conventional optimization methods. Thus, it was often tried to use various initial starting points to locate the best optimum paint and to use special method such as branch and bound method to handle the discrete design variables in the optimization problems. Sometimes it had succeed, but the essential problems for dealing with the local optimum and discrete design variables was left unsolved. Hence, in this paper, Genetic Algorithms adopting the biological evolution process is applied to the ship structural design problem where the integer values for the number of stiffen design variables or the discrete values for the plate thickness variables would be more preferable in order to find out their effects on the final optimum design. Through the numerical result comparisons, it was found that Genetic Algorithm could always yield the global optimum for the discrete and mixed integer structural optimization problem cases even though it takes more time than other methods.

Principal component analysis (PCA) is a well-known method for dimensionality reduction and feature extraction. Although PCA has been applied in many areas successfully, it is sensitive to outliers due to the use of sum-square-error. Several variants of PCA have been proposed to resolve the noise sensitivity and, among the variants, improved robust fuzzy PCA (RF-PCA2) demonstrated promising results. RF-PCA2, however, still can fall into a local optimum due to equal initial membership values for all data points. Another reason comes from the fact that RF-PCA2 is based on sum-square-error although fuzzy memberships are incorporated. In this paper, a variant of RF-PCA2 called RF-PCA3 is proposed. The proposed algorithm is based on the objective function of RF-PCA2. RF-PCA3 augments RF-PCA2 with the objective function of PCA and initial membership calculation using data distribution, which make RF-PCA3 to have more chance to converge on a better solution than that of RF-PCA2. RF-PCA3 outperforms RF-PCA2, which is demonstrated by experimental results.

In this paper, adaptive evolutionary algorithm(AEA) is proposed, which uses both genetic algorithm(GA) with good global search capability and evolution strategy(ES) with good local search capability in an adaptive manner, when population evolves to the next generation. In the reproduction procedure, proportion of the population for GA and ES is adaptively determined according to their fitness. The AEA is used to design membership functions and scaling factors of the fuzzy logic controller(FLC). To evaluate the performance of the proposed FLC design method, we make an experiment on the FLC for the speed control of an actual DC series motor system with nonlinear characteristics. Experimental results show that the proposed controller has better performance than PD controller.

The element free Galerkin method is extended by the local partition of unity method to model the cohesive cracks in two dimensional continuum. The shape function of a particle whose domain of influence is completely cut by a crack is enriched by the step enrichment function. If the domain of influence contains a crack tip inside, it is enriched by a branch enrichment function which does not have the LEFM stress singularity. The discrete equations are obtained directly from the standard Galerkin method since the enrichment is only for the displacement field, which satisfies the local partition of unity. Because only particles whose domains of influence are influenced by a crack are enriched, the system matrix is still sparse so that the increase of the computational cost is minimized. The condition for crack growth in dynamic problems is obtained from the material instability; when the acoustic tensor loses the positive definiteness, a cohesive crack is inserted to the point so as to change the continuum to a discontiuum. The crack speed is naturally obtained from the criterion. It is found that this method is more accurate and converges faster than the classical meshless methods which are based on the visibility concept. In this paper, several well-known static and dynamic problems were solved to verify the method.

In order to estimate behavior of soil mass which is located straight up of reinforced concrete culvert, Ritz method and FEM were applied and arching effects between the soil mass and adjacent soil were considered for the analyses. Analysis results obtained from the Ritz method and finite element method were compared with analytical solution. In the case of estimating nodal forces considered in FEM, caution is needed that shear stress depending on depth from ground surface should be reflected regardless of local coordinate system. Comparing the displacements computed from Ritz method with those of the analytic solution, it is seen that as the power of assumed displacement function increases, differences between the computed displacements and those of analytic solution decreases. It seems that displacements of FEM becomes closer to those of analytical solution as the number of elements are increased. It is seen that stresses computed from the Ritz method don't get closer to those of the analytic solution as the power of assumed displacement function. Stresses from FEM become closer to those of analytic solution as the number of elements are increased. Comparing the analysis results from the Ritz method and FEM with those of analytic solution, it can be seen that FEM is more reliable than Ritz method.
In this paper, a parallel Optimal Best-First search Branch-and-Bound(B&B) algorithm(pobs) is designed and evaluated for MIN-based multiprocessor systems. The proposed algorithm decomposes a problem into G subproblems, where each subproblem is processed on a group of P processors. Each processor group uses tile sub-Global Best-First search technique to find a local solution. The local solutions are broadcasted through the network to compute the global solution. This broadcast provides not only the comparison of G local solutions but also the load balancing among the processor groups. A performance analysis is then conducted to estimate the speed-up of the proposed parallel B&B algorithm. The analytical model is developed based on the probabilistic properties of the B&B algorithm. It considers both the computation time and communication overheads to evaluate the realistic performance of the algorithm under the parallel processing environment. In order to validate the proposed evaluation model, the simulation of the parallel B&B algorithm on a MIN-based system is carried out at the same time. The results from both analysis and simulation match closely. It is also shown that the proposed Optimal Best-First search B&B algorithm performs better than other reported schemes with its various advantageous features such as: less subproblem evaluations, prefer load balancing, and limited scope of remote communication.
Two global optimization methods, the SCE-UA method and the Annealing-Simplex(A-S) method for calibrating a daily rainfall-runoff model, a Tank model, was compared with that of the Downhill Simplex method. In synthetic data study, 100% success rates for all objective functions were obtained from the A-S method, and the SCE-UA method was also consistently able to obtain good estimates. The Downhill Simplex method was converged to the true values only when the initial guess was close to the true values. In the historical data study, the A-S method and the SCE-UA method showed consistently good results regardless of objective function. An objective function was developed, which puts more weight on the low flows.
