Effect of Austempering on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of High-Carbon Nano-Bainite Steels (고탄소 나노 베이나이트강의 미세조직과 기계적 특성에 미치는 오스템퍼링의 영향)

  • This study deals with the effect of austempering temperature and time on the microstructures and mechanical properties of high-carbon nano-bainite steels. Although all the austempered specimens are mainly composed of bainite, martensite, and retained austenite, the specimens which are austempered at lower temperatures contain finer packets of bainite. As the duration for austempering increases, bainite packets are clearly seen due to larger amount of carbon atoms being redistributes into bainite and retained austenite during bainite transformation. As the austempering time increases, the hardness of the specimens gradually decreases as a result of lower martensite volume fraction, and later increases again due to the formation of nano-bainite structure. The Charpy impact test results indicate that the impact toughness of the austempered specimens can be improved if the formation of nano-bainite structure and the transformation induced plasticity effect of retained austenite are optimized at higher austempering temperature.

A study on temperature dependent acoustic receiving characteristics of underwater acoustic sensors (수중음향센서 수온 변화에 따른 음향 수신 특성 변화 연구)

  • In this paper, a temperature dependent acoustic receiving characteristics of underwater acoustic sensor is studied by theoretical and experimental investigations. Two different types (low mid frequency sensor and high frequency sensor) of underwater acoustic sensors are designed with different configuration of baffle and conditioning plate. The temperature dependent characteristics of the acoustic sensors are investigated within the temperature range from $-2^{\circ}C$ to $35^{\circ}C$. The material properties of the piezoelectric ceramics, molding and baffle, which are the primary materials of the acoustic sensors, are measured with temperature change. The temperature dependent RVS (Receiving Voltage Sensitivity) characteristics of the acoustic sensors are simulated by using the measured material properties. The RVS changes of the acoustic sensors are measured by changing temperature in the watertank where the acoustic sensors are installed. The measured and the simulated data show that the temperature dependent characteristics of the acoustic sensors are mainly dependent for the sound speed changes of the molding material.

Design of INS/GNSS/TRN Integrated Navigation Considering Compensation of Barometer Error (기압고도계 오차 보상을 고려한 INS/GNSS/TRN 통합항법 설계)

  • Safe aircraft requires highly reliable navigation information. The traditionally used inertial navigation system (INS) often displays faulty location information due to its innate errors. To overcome this, the INS/GNSS or INS/TRN integrated navigation can be used. However, GNSS is vulnerable to jamming and spoofing, while TRN can be degraded in the flat and repetitive terrains. In this paper, to improve the performance and ensure the high reliability of the navigation system, the INS/GNSS/TRN integrated navigation based on federated filter is designed. Master filter of the integrated navigation uses the estimates and covariances of two local filters - INS/GNSS and INS/TRN integrated filters. The local filters are designed with the EKF that is feedforward type and composed of the 17st state variables. And the INS/GNSS integrated navigation includes the barometer error compensation method. Finally, the proposed INS/GNSS/TRN integrated navigation is verified by vehicle and captive flight tests.

An Analysis of Radio Propagation Range of USV Communication System for Maritime Wireless Environment (해상 환경에서 무인수상정용 통신시스템의 전파 통달거리 분석)

  • In this paper, we analyzed the communication distances in the flat and spherical earth model using the main specifications of the wireless communication device under development to be installed in the unmanned surface vehicle(USV). We installed the wireless communication device on the test ship and the actual communication test was performed in the South Sea of Korea, it compared the experimental result with the simulated results. If the installation altitude of the transmitting and receiving antennas is low, there is not the big difference between the two models. However, when the altitude of one of the two antennas is high, the spherical earth model has similar results to the experimental data. As the altitude of the antenna installation increases, fading occurs in a certain section. We expect that this fading can be overcome through antenna technologies such as space diversity.

  • Variable length information message is a communication protocol standard in order for computer network systems to provide efficient delivery of information. The variable length information messages were developed for varying and controlling details of information in accordance with message receiver's required information level or information access level. In the previous studies, data compressing techniques have been in use for information message optimization technologies in order to reduce physical sizes of information messages. In optimization technologies for information messages, accuracy of information is considered as the most important factor; therefore, only non-loss compression techniques are applied to the optimization technologies. However, the non-loss compression based information message optimization methods are not efficient in data compression, and these are limited to efficient delivery of information in wireless network environments that have constraint bandwidth. In this paper, we attempt to optimize information in the variable length information messages at message fields in order to reduce physical sizes of messages more efficiently. To demonstrate the efficiency of our approach, we conduct optimization experiments for variable length information messages.

A Study on the Flight Safety Analysis of Military Aircraft External Stores (군용 항공기 외장물의 비행 안전성 분석에 관한 연구)

  • The external store fitted to the aircraft may affect the flight characteristics and flight safety of the aircraft, which requires the analyses and testing on it. The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze types of failures that can affect the flight safety of aircraft due to the installation of external stores, and to check the flight safety of aircraft through dropping tests of the external stores. After identifying the types of failures that could affect the flight safety of the aircraft, the criticality was calculated to analyze the effect on the flight safety of the aircraft. Four types of failures were selected: unintentional dropping, failure of dropping, unintentional main wing deployment, and release of tail wing restraint of the external store, which are considered to affect the flight safety of the aircraft due to the operation of the external store. As a result of the aircraft's flight safety analysis on the failure types, the criticality requirements were met. Based on this, after obtaining the airworthiness certification, the drop test was successfully performed to confirm the flight safety of the aircraft by mounting an external store on the aircraft. However, in addition to the four hazards carried out in this study, the real external stores of the military aircraft may have various factors affecting the flight safety of the aircraft, so further research will be needed.

Structural Support of Aluminum Honeycomb on Cast PBX (알루미늄 허니컴(HC) 구조재 적용 주조형 복합화약)

  • As the operating condition for the penetrating missile has been more advanced, the survivability of main charge has been strongly required when the warhead impacts the target. Lots of efforts to desensitize explosives such as the development of insensitive molecular explosives or optimizing plastic-bonded explosives(PBX) systems has been made to enhance the survivability of main charge. However, these efforts face their limits as the weapon system require higher performance. Herein, we suggest a new strategy to secure the survivability of main charge. We applied structurally supportable aluminum honeycomb(HC) structure to cast PBX. The aluminum HC structure reinforces the mechanical strength of cast PBX and helps it to withstand external pressure without the reaction like detonation. In this study, impact resistance character, shock sensitivity and internal blast performance of PBXs reinforced with HC structure were investigated according to the application of aluminum HC structure. The newly suggested aluminum HC structure applied to cast PBX was proved to be a promising manufacturing method available for high-tech weapon systems.

MLP Based Real-Time Gravity Disturbance Compensation in INS Embedded Computer (다층 레이어 퍼셉트론 기반 INS 내장형 컴퓨터에서의 실시간 중력교란 보상)

  • In this paper, a real-time prediction technique for gravity disturbances is proposed using a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) model. To select a suitable MLP model, 4 models with different network sizes were designed to compare the training accuracy and execution time. The MLP models were trained using the data of vehicle moving along the surface of the sea or land, including their positions and gravity disturbance. The gravity disturbances were calculated using the 2160th degree and order EGM2008 with SHM. Among the models, MLP4 demonstrated the highest training accuracy. After training, the weights and biases of the 4 models were stored in the embedded computer of the INS to implement the MLP network. MLP4 was found to have the shortest execution time among the 4 models. These research results are expected to contribute to improving the navigation accuracy of INS through gravity disturbance compensation in the future.

  • Highly toxic chemical warfare agents(CWA) could be used in chemical warfare and terrorism. The protection of skin is crucial for civilians and soldiers, because the primary routes of exposure to CWA are inhalation and skin absorption. Thus, topical skin protectants(TSP) have been studied and developed in many countries to complement protective equipments. In this study, in-vitro test procedure was optimized and established using a flow-through diffusion cell system containing excised hairless mouse skin in an attempt to assess the effectiveness of various TSP formulations against nerve agent simulants. In addition, the test results on the formulations including the ingredients used in SERPACWA(Skin Exposure Reduction Paste Against Chemical Warfare Agent) and IB-1(TSP of Israel) were included, indicating that the formulations with perfluorinated compounds were more effective than the glycerin-based formulations.

A Study on Occurrence Frequency of Cloud for Altitude in the Central Region of the Korean Peninsula using Upper-Air Observation Data (고층기상관측자료를 이용한 한반도 중부지방의 고도별 구름 발생빈도 연구)

  • It is crucial to understand the characteristics of cloud occurrence frequency for development of high precision guided missile using infrared imaging sensor. In this paper, we investigated the vertical structure of cloud for altitude using upper-air observation data. We find that cloud occurrence frequency is high at altitudes of 1.3 km and 9.5 km. Theses features have seasonal and temporal dependency. In the summer, cloud often occur more than average regardless of altitude. In the winter, low clouds occur frequently, and high clouds do not occur well. In temporal characteristics, clouds occur more frequently in daytime than in nighttime regardless of altitude. Many of clouds exist in single layer or double layers in the air. We also find that the 40 % of cloud occurrence frequency at high altitude when low clouds under altitude of 2 km cover entire sky.
