  • A measurement unit and signal processing algorithm have been developed for predicting arterial oxygen saturation noninvasively. The measurement set-up was composed of a probe including light source and photodetector, optical signal processing section, LED driving circuit, PC interface software for data acquisition and data processing software. Light from the LED's was irradiated onto the finger nail bed and transmitted light was measured at different wavelengths. An effective baseline correction method was developed and measured data were analyzed by using various data processing methods and prediction algOlithms. For performance evaluation, a pulse oximeter simulator (Bio- Tek Instrument Inc.) was used as reference. The best performance in terms of the correlation coefficient and the standard deviation was obtained under the following conditions; when the arterial signals were computed in terms of area rather than peak-valley difference, and when the algorithm calculating by $In(I_p/I_v)/I_{avr}$ value for pulsation waveform was used. In in vivo test, prediction was improved when the developed baseline correction method was used. In addition, wavelengths of 660 nm and 940 nm provided better linearity and precision than wavelengths of 660 nm and 805 nm. 05 nm.

  • This paper focuses on the problem of asymptotic stabilization for uncertain time-delay systems with saturating actuator. We propose a state feedback controller which maximizes the delay bound for guaranteeing stability of the system. Then, based on the Lyapunov method, a delay-dependent stabilization criterion is devised by taking the relationship between the terms in the Leibniz-Newton formula into account. The criterion is represented in terms of LMIs, which can be solved by various efficient convex optimization algorithm. Numerical examples are given to illustrate our main method.

  • In this paper, we consider the design of a state feedback $H_{\infty}$ controller for uncertain linear systems with saturating actuators. We consider a general saturating actuator and employ the additive decomposition to deal with it effectively. And the considered uncertainty is the unstructured uncertainty which is only known its norm bound. Based on Linear Matrix Inequality(LMI) techniques, we present a condition on designing a controller that guarantees the $L_2$ gain, from the noise to the output, is not greater than a given value. A controller is obtained by checking the feasibility of three LMI's, and this can be easily done by well-known control package. Finally, we show the usefulness of our result by a numerical example.

  • In this paper, we considered the design of gain scheduled controllers for linear systems with saturating actuators. Our basic idea is to design a control that uses higher control gain when the states are smaller, and lower gain when it is higher. By doing this, we can avoid the saturation and we can improve the performance. First, we derive a control and a reachable set expressed as LMI form, which minimizes not only the L$_2$ gain from the disturbance to the measured output but also the control is never saturated within this reachable set. Next, the reachable set is divided as nested subsets, and at each nested subset, the control gain is designed to minimize the L$_2$ gain and it is never saturated. Finally, the control gain is scheduled according to the status of states, i.e., the subset in which the states are located. A numerical example is presented to show that our gain scheduled control significantly improves the performance.

  • In practical applications, we frequently encounter the actuator nonlinearity in control systems, and its representative nonlinearity is saturation. A controller designed without considering this saturation nonlinearity is often a source of degradation of performance. To treat the saturation nonlinearity more efficiently, we adopt the multiplicative decomposition and the additive decomposition. Based on these decompositions, we present two controller design methods in the LMI(Linear Matrix Inequality) form that guarantee the L2 gain, from the disturbance to the measured output, is less than or equal to a given value. Finally, we give two examples to show the applicability and usefulness of our results.

  • In this paper, we considered the $H_{\infty}$ tracking control for time-delayed linear systems with saturating actuators. The considered time delay is a time varying one having bounded magnitude and rate, and the considered tracking reference is a general one only known its bounds of magnitude and rate. First, we have converted the $H_{\infty}$ tracking control problem into an equivalent $H_{\infty}$ disturbance attenuation problem using two steps of transformations. Next, based on a new Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, we have derived the result in the form of LMI with two non-convex parameters. Finally, by numerical examples, we have shown the usefulness and effectiveness of our result.

  • This paper is concerned with the $H_{\infty}$ controller design of linear systems subject to time-delay in the state and saturating controls. The controller is derived from the matrix inequalities whish are obtained by minimizing the $L_{2}$ gain from the disturbance to the measured output, and this can be done by LMI control toolbox. An example is presented to show the usefulness of our result.

  • The propulsion for locomotive application has changed from the DC motor system to the induction motor system. Although the induction motor system has almost reached the stage of maturity, this system also needs to be changed to the PM motor system for the direct drive without using reduction gear. Thus, the IPMSM (Interior buried Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) has been adopted to meet the locomotive driving specification. Where the wheel is directly dirven by the traction motor. In this paper, the investigation on IPMSM satisfying driving specifications for the direct drive has been performed using the advanced FEM.
