Study of the Applications of Introduction of Computer Engineering Class using PBL (PBL을 이용한 컴퓨터공학입문 수업의 실제적 적용에 관한 연구)

  • In this thesis, PBL was applied to the subject for improving students' many skills that modern industrial society demands. Our engineering school developed PBL problems for PBL use, applied the problems to classes and confirmed the effectiveness of PBL. The study subjects were 63 freshman students in H University who took the 'Introduce of computer engineering'. We applied 5 PBL problems for 15 weeks. They wrote and submitted a reflective journal when they finished the every given PBL activity. In addition, they completed a class evaluation form after the activity of 5th PBL Problem ended. The study showed that the students experienced the effectiveness of PBL, such as the comprehension of the studied contents, the comprehension of the cooperative learning, authentic experience, creative problem-solving skills, presentation skills, communication ability, self-directed study ability and confidence. Some difficulties in gathering together and spending much time were also encountered. The students realized that the PBL learning activities were important methods because the students could develop into future intelligent engineers that modern industrial society demands through PBL learning activities. The main goal of an engineering school is to produce specialists with creative problem solving ability so that the effects of this study are quite promising for our engineering school.

  • This study intends to develope the resident leadership training in order to activate community organizations. Recently, it has been largely stressed the importance of "community" approach in social welfare practice. Traditionally, the community organization approach was emphasized in the community work methods. But many social workers express their difficulty of doing community organizations when they confront with the practice. Although there were a few cases, it was pointed out that the subgroups of long-lease housing project were not democratic, accountable, or open. This study shows the way to overcome these problems and suggests the programs that can reinforce the resident leadership development. To accomplish these tasks, I have planned programs, implemented, and then analyzed their process by qualitative evaluation methods. I have divided "the general community organization" and "the welfare community organization" to operate the leadership program and took the education and training methods using small groups. This study is significant to suggest the specific program of program planning, the activity methods of step by step community organization practice, and the formation of self- help groups.

Comparative Study on Main Research Area of National and International Universities Using Network Analysis (네트워크 분석을 이용한 국내외 대학의 학문분야 비교 분석 - 전기전자 분야와 언론학 분야를 중심으로 -)

  • This study is to explore and compare the main research area of national and international universities, figure out the differences of the research trends depending on national and international universities, and suggest which area Korea universities could focus on and head to. The study is conducted on the fields of 'Communication and Media' in humanities and 'Electrical Engineering' in engineering for the cases of 10 national and international universities. The data is based on the 3 years journals published between 2009 and 2011 by 10 universities, and analyzed using network analysis. The data is processed with three steps and visualized using Ucinet, Gephi, Netdraw program. These result show, in case of 'Communication and Media', the focus of the universities in Korea mainly on the classical research fields with only a few new research area comparing with international universities. In case of 'Electrical Engineering', national and international universities covers various areas, from classic ones to emerging ones. But the specific research areas are different. These results suggest the research areas which ares the universities in Korea will pursue in near future.

Study on the Successful Aging of Baby-Boom Generation : Application of Rowe & Kahn's Theory (베이비붐 세대의 성공적 노화에 관한 연구 : Rowe & Kahn 이론을 적용하여)

  • Considering the reality that the baby boom generation which takes up 15% of the Korean population enters the old age, this study aimed to investigate level and factors affecting successful aging of the baby boom generation. The theory this study used is Rowe & Kahn, and the data it used are from 2,577 persons combining respondents of the fifth basic survey and the special survey of Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing. This study utilized IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 20.0 for analysis, and the main results of this study were as follows. First, successful aging level of the baby boom generation was $6.36{\pm}1.39$(range: 0~9), proving that they consider their aging as successful. However, depending on sub-factors of successful aging, proportion that they viewed themselves as successfully aging were quite different. Second, examination of factors affecting successful aging of the generation found out that pocket money, educational level, and child-parents relationship satisfaction are important. By applying the theory of Rowe & Kahn which can be called the representative model of successful aging, this study examined successful aging and extracted some suggestions for future researches.

  • This paper applied to the economics subject using PBL(Problem-Based Learning) for improving students many skills in Mongolian University that 21st century demands. For the first time at Mongolian University, the PBL problem was developed for the use of PBL and applied to the class and confirmed its effectiveness. The study subjects were 60 freshman students in D university who took 'Economics'. We applied 5 problems for 16 weeks. Students wrote and submitted a reflective journal when they finished the every activity. In addition, they completed a class evaluation form after the PBL program ended. The study showed that they experienced various effects such as understanding of learning contents, understanding of cooperative learning, practical experience, creative problem solving ability, presentation skill, communication ability, self- directed learning ability, self - confidence. In the PBL learning activities, the learning environment was not well prepared yet, so some difficulties were encountered. Mongolian students perceived it as a new and effective way to develop their expertise as a future leader in the 21st century. The main goal of Mongolian university is to produce leaders with professional talent with creative problem solving ability and active learning direction.

Therapeutic Singing on Speech Production Parameters in Head and Neck Cancer Patients: Case Studies (치료적 노래부르기를 통한 두경부암 환자의 말산출 기능 향상 사례)

  • This case study investigated the changes in speech intelligibility of patients with head and neck cancers who participated in a therapeutic singing-based intervention. Three patients received a total of twelve 30-minute individual sessions. The intervention consisted of three steps: movements for relaxing breathing muscles, vocalization for increasing the range of articulatory movements, and therapeutic singing. In order to examine the changes in speech intelligibility, the voice quality parameters, diadochokinesis (DDK) and the quadrangle vowel space area (VSA) were measured at pre- and posttest. The recording of what each patient read a written paragraph, which were transcribed by blinded assessors, were also analyzed. The results demonstrated that all of the patients showed positive changes in the voice quality, the rate of repetitive syllable production measured by DDK, and the articulatory working space measured by VSA. Along with these measured changes, increases in positive mood and rehabilitation motivation reported by the patients support that the therapeutic singing-based intervention could induce meaningful changes in terms of speech intelligibility from patients with head and neck cancers. Given that this study was conducted with a small sample size, suggestions for further investigation on the effects of the intervention were also presented.

Exploring Epistemic Considerations in Small Group Science Argumentation of Elementary Students (초등학생들의 소집단 과학 논의 활동에 나타나는 인식적 고려사항 탐색)

  • The purpose of this study is to show that epistemic considerations can be used meaningfully in the argumentation of elementary students, and to provide data on students' epistemic considerations that will be the basis for designing and evaluating scientific argumentation. The epistemic considerations in students' small group argumentations were explored based on Epistemic Considerations in Students' Epistemologies in Practice: EIP' suggested by Berland et al. (2016). The major results of this study are as follows: First, epistemic considerations in elementary school students' small group argumentation appeared in all four aspects: Nature, generality, justification and audience. The epistemic considerations varied according to context in each discussion situation. Second, epistemic considerations did not exist independently. They influenced each other and helped to reveal new types of considerations. The results of this study confirmed that argumentation can be used in elementary school science class. Understanding how students are involved in argumentation and how these epistemic considerations can affect students' argumentation can be helpful to teachers who design and evaluate small group argumentation. Students' achievement level affected epistemic considerations but learning approach types did not affect on. In addition, epistemic considerations may have a positive or negative effect on each other depending on the discussion situation in the process of interaction. So consideration of normative argumentation rules and teaching strategies should be considered in order for epistemic considerations to positively affect each other.

An Analysis for the Skill Mismatching of IT Service Sector by Technology Changes (기술변화에 따른 IT 서비스업의 숙련 미스매칭 분석)

  • This study investigates for skills mismatching of the IT service sector in the flows of fast technology changes. It was conducted through an in-depth interview method for professional groups. There were differences in demand for skilled labor by business organizations and educators as providers of skilled labor. A five-point Likert scale was used. The degree of importance of 3.7 average point and the degree of satisfaction of 3.4 average point were responded for the set items in case of matching. In addition, the degree of importance of 3.79 average point and the satisfaction of 3.12 were responded in case of non-majored education students for IT. The skills desired from business organizations included multi-dimensional competencies and soft-skill items. For the reason of skills mismatching, business organizations presented ineffective specifications or divisions of the industrial manpower structure, and educational institutions selected the mismatching of time. Professional groups forecasted that the mismatching gap would expand in the future. To solve the gap, the participated professionals selected an industry-university institute collaboration course and gave an opinion to seek a method to foster manpower in the long-term perspective.

  • This study aims to examine the current status of and problems in records management by the person in charge of university records management and derive improvement measures to manage university processing and records management systematically. The study's results are as follows: first, administrative problems with processing and service, and second, issues arising from records management procedures, such as the production and registration of processing departments, notification of production status, transfer, cleanup and physical storage, and assessment and disposal, as well as the lack of knowledge and records management. In response, it was suggested that training is needed to improve processing and records management manuals, secure physical storage, strengthen administrative support for the division in charge, ensure the legitimate status of the person in charge of processing and records management in the division in charge, and enhance the recognition of records management by the person in charge and manager.

The Effects of Chemistry Class Using Computer-Based Science Inquiry Program on Positive Experiences about Science, Science Core Competency, and Academic Achievement (컴퓨터 기반 과학 탐구 프로그램을 활용한 화학 수업이 과학 긍정경험, 과학과 핵심역량 및 학업성취도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of learning using computer-based science inquiry program. To this end, the three lessons computer-based science inquiry were developed in domain of material's properties. The developed program was put into K middle school located in Seoul and the effects were verified. For the experimental group, the three lessons computer-based science inquiry related to the separation of mixture were introduced, and for the comparison group, the contents presented in the textbook were introduced as a teacher-centered teaching method. To verify the effects of the program, 2-way ANCOVA was performed on positive experiences about science and science core competency, and 2-way ANOVA was performed on academic achievement. As a result of the study, there were significant differences between the two groups in positive experiernces about science and scientific core competencies and academic achievement (p<.05), and group*gender interaction effect was only significant in academic achievement (p<.05). From the results of this study, we could see the possibility of using a computer-based science inquiry program as a chemistry teaching method that enables sustainable scientific inquiry.
