The purpose of this study was to understand science teaching experiences of elementary school teachers who taught the system thinking-based science inquiry class. The phenomenological methods were applied to analyze four elementary teachers' meaningful experiences. The four step methods of phenomenological experience research proposed by Giorgi (1985) and interview questions developed by Seidman (1998) and Schuman (1982) were used in order to collect qualitative data. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, teachers intentionally tried to ask divergent thinking questions which promoted the system thinking in classes. The teachers used divergent thinking questions to promote their students' thinking activities and to induce students' system thinking. In addition, the receptive mood created by teachers and interactive environments had a positive effect on promoting system thinking skills. Second, teachers remarked lack of teaching and learning materials and difficulties in selecting themes of their classes in order to teach the system thinking-based science inquiry class effectively. In addition, it was very difficult for teachers to evaluate the contents and processes of students' learning correctly because there were little evaluative tools and methods readily available. The findings indicated that there were some limitations in maximizing the effects of system thinking-based science inquiry instruction due to elementary students' inappropriate process skills of inquiry activities. Findings of this study revealed significant insights about elementary school teachers' experiences regarding the system thinking-based science class.
The current research was to investigate the effects of discussion activities based on Havruta style on elementary school students' social studies communication skills. For this purpose, we examined a comparative study between 5th grade students and other students of partner schools. As research results, first, online classes using video conference equipment and smart devices will enhance the students' interest and participation in class. Second, the Havruta style helps students not only acquire and internalize knowledge by themselves through the course of reciprocal questions and discussions but also improve presentations and participations. Third, it is necessary not only to draft a new lesson plan and to reconstruct the education process for video and online classes but also to develop the classes with a lesson plan after preparations and discussions with colleague teachers; the process of reflection, such as writing a lesson research journal, has a positive effect to improve the quality of cooperative classes. Fourth, using SNS discussion activities to serve as a complementary activity is good, and two teachers can evaluate each of the students' achievement. It is necessary to have a sufficient number of schools where video and online cooperative learning is possible with video equipment provided. To maximize the effect of video and online classes, various studies and teacher trainings are needed. Education office needs to provide a server that enables students in small and large classes to freely engage in cooperative learning.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the process of constructing pre-service teachers' scientific knowledge information through collective intelligence. We selected the 'Appropriate Technology' (A.T.) as the subject for formation of scientific knowledge. Twenty nine pre-service teachers of the course 'Scientific Thinking and Writing in Science Education' were allowed to freely post information whenever they wanted. They presented their full opinions, interacted with each other, and assessed the other' information on the website for a month. The way of posting was as follows. After one pre-service teacher had written the information about A.T. on the website, the other assessed the text and added or modified the writing. This process continued. We analyzed every writing they posted and questionnaire which contained the reason why they modified the text. The result was as follows. Pre-service teachers formed collective intelligence through four stages. First, pre-service teachers started to find the information related to the subject and they just added the information behind the other's writing. In the second stage, information was added, too. But the difference was that the information they selected carried values for having certain views. Third, they organized their writings with logical and critical thinking. Finally, they revised their overall writing. The results showed that students could develop their critical thinking and they could learn the way of communication from the process of collective intelligence. We found the forming process of knowledge by collective intelligence, and explored the various involving patterns and thinking activities in the process. Based on this research, we expect the improvement of students' logical and critical thinking through the various classes using collective intelligence.

The purpose of this study was to examine the nature of inquiry activities proposed in high school physics textbooks that were developed based on the 2009 science curriculum in Korea. The inquiry activities were analyzed using the notion of scientific practices introduced in the Science Education Framework (NRC, 2012). The results showed that the inquiry activities in the textbooks emphasized two of eight types of scientific practices including "Analyzing and interpreting data" and "Constructing explanations". In contrast, the activities required students to "ask questions" only once in a total of 291 science inquiry activities. The other types of scientific practices appeared less than 10%. Also found was that the types of scientific practices were not relevant to the way inquiry activities were used for textbook content. Implications for the curriculum and science teacher education were discussed.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of temperament, family strength and social support on ego-resilience of adolescents. Four hundred fifty middle and high school students in Incheon participated. Temperament, family strength, social support and ego-resilience were evaluated by self-report questionnaires. Data were analyzed using factor analyses, t-tests, descriptive statistics, correlations and standard multiple regression analyses. Results indicated that there was significant gender difference in ego-resilience. Adolescents' ego-resilience was positively associated with activity level and persistence in temperament, family strength and social support, but negatively associated with rigidity in temperament. Furthermore, gender, temperament, family strength and social support of class teacher and close friends significantly predicted ego-resilience of adolescents.
The purpose of this research were to develop program of elementary school technology education using history of technology and to learn about its effect. In order to accomplish the purpose of the research, we developed the program by referring to various records and perform the qualitative experiment study through several questionnaire, pictures and materials, to learn about the program effect. The research took the mixed-model design, consisted of collection of quantitative data by Likert scale and collection of qualitative data including the open-ended questions. And the research results were as below. First, development of elementary school technology education program using history of technology was developed as program for 12 hours, 12 themes, for the elementary levels. Second, seeing the result of program of elementary school technology education using history of technology, the program for history of technology for the primary school students, a majority of answers showed high satisfaction about the program, giving answers such as 'I want to do it again following hands on minds on activity.' Third, according to the analysis on the qualitiative evidence of the program, students were found to take pictures with hands on minds on activity camera obscura with much interest and curiosity. Many students are seen to complete the task on their own with a great a look of self-satisfaction, understanding the principle of camera.
In this study, the implementation of science classes by pre-service elementary teachers were explored to foster the digital literacy of elementary students. To this end, interviews were conducted with four university students in their 4th year of study at 'G' Education University in Gwangju, also their teaching plans and class implementation videos were analyzed. Interview questions were divided into the science class planning stage, the science class implementation stage, and the post-science class implementation stage, and the interview contents were transcribed and categorized after recording. The results of the study are as follows. First, in the science class planning stage, pre-service elementary teachers considered the degree of elementary students' familiarity when choosing digital teaching and learning tools to foster digital literacy. While writing the teaching plan, it was difficult to set standards related to fostering digital literacy. Second, while pre-service elementary teachers had positive experiences such as improving students' participation in classes and increasing student-specific guidance through real-time data sharing, class time was exceeded due to poor use of digital teaching and learning tools. Third, after teaching their science classes, pre-service teachers presented reflections and requirements for the class. Based on these results, the necessity of developing digital literacy for pre-service elementary teachers and the need to improve the curriculum of education university were proposed.

This study examined how practical reasoning processes were reflected in the revised consumer education of technology & home economics textbooks in secondary schools. Twenty-four textbooks from secondary schools for 7th to 10th grades were analyzed. Areas of textbooks analyzed were introduction, body content, learning activity, and evaluation. Analysis criteria were extracted from the previous literature regarding contents and questions dealing with practical reasoning processes and revised by a researcher of this paper. The results and conclusions of this study are as follows. The results of the analysis of the practical reasoning processes showed that, across all grades, "contexts" was the most common element, and "alternatives and means" was the second most common elements. The elements of "consequences", "action and reflection" were less represented in the textbooks, with the exception of the learning activity part. The types of practical reasoning process reflected were classified either as the entire process of reasoning being reflected or some of the process being reflected, or included in the body content. Most of these were some of the process being reflected. Since there were a lot of concept-oriented statements rather than questions, more practical reasoning questions should be developed to increase the reasoning process. In addition, a need exists to develop a variety of ways to utilize the entire practical reasoning processes in the textbooks to help teachers apply the practical reasoning processes to their lessons.
The purpose of this study is to analyze gifted students' perception of the teaching activities at the gifted science high school (Busan Science Academy), in Busan, Korea, and to investigate the science experiment class practice. In this study, a questionnaire about the curriculum courses, teaching strategies, and evaluation method of the school was administered to 139 gifted students. The verbal interactions during the science experiment class were audio and videotaped, transcribed, and analyzed. The results of this study are as follows: First, according to the gifted students' perception, the credits of specialized courses and advanced elective courses need to be increased and the credits of general courses need to be reduced. Second, teachers at this school mainly use teaching strategies such as lecture, group activities, and discussion; on the other hand, the students prefer diverse teaching strategies such as discussion, lecture, experiment, inquiring activities, and problem solving. Third, students prefer a writing test assessment rather than a written report assessment or portfolio assessment. Fourth, the patterns of verbal interaction were different depending on the level of the teachers' questions and interactions between the students in the experiment class facilitated students' inquiry.
