  • This study aims to summarize characteristics of teacher certification system in China and identify its problems and improvement directions through the analysis of examination contents and examination conditions and so on. The teacher certification examination in China, including written examination and interview, is dominated by Ministry of Education. And all districts and departments put into practice according to their own characteristics and practical situations. Without distinction between normal university students and non-normal university students, only when all specific conditions are met could candidates sit for the examination. Problems of teacher certification examination are as following. The limitation of examination conditions focus on educational requirements and some basic conditions, the negligence of educational experience and practical ability, and interview tends to become apparent and formalistic.

  • The quality of gifted education depends on the quality of teachers in the field. Teachers in music (Korean traditional music) gifted education are significant variable in identifying students' giftedness and successful instruction. The purpose of this study was to explore the desirable components of teachers in music (Korean traditional music) gifted education and develop the evaluation criteria based on the desirable components. Previous research on the components of good teachers, teachers in gifted education and teachers in music (Korean traditional music) gifted education were reviewed. Based on literature review, the evaluation criteria of teachers in music (Korean traditional music) gifted education was developed. To collect opinions and derive consensus of the evaluation criteria, this research used Delphi method with a panels of 25 experts. The evaluation criteria classified with 3 dimensions, 8 categories, and 18 variables as the result.

  • We recognized that most teachers are having insufficient understanding or misunderstanding about congruent conditions of triangles. So the purpose of this study was to analyze teachers's understanding about congruent conditions of triangles and to find the causes of teachers's misunderstanding. Most teachers have been misunderstanding that triangle determining- conditions are only 3 ways(SSS, SAS, ASA). And they have wrong confidence that 2 sides and a non included angle(ASS) is not always able to make one triangle. This study found that these teachers's misconception was from the textbook using now. As the result of this study, we suggested 7 improvement ways about planning of curriculum, writing of textbook and teacher training course.

  • This study investigated the high school students' and science teachers' understanding of idealization involved in the physics experiment. Major research questions are as follows: (1) what kind of ideal conditions do subjects identify from the presented experimental context? (2) do subjects think how well ideal conditions are satisfied with the experiment? (3) how well do subjects expect the effect of idealization on the experimental result? (3) what kind of view point do science teachers have about the ideal condition involved in the experiment? A total of 85 subjects were given 6 questions related with the research questions I. 2. and 3. with simple experiment about the brightness of the bulbs connected with parallel to the battery. And another 4 questions for the forth research question were given to 42 science teachers. Subjects' responses were summarized and used to draw the implications for the teaching of physics experiment.

  • This study investigated secondary school science teachers' experiences to explore the influencing factors in science teachers efficiency (STE). The participants, thirty three secondary school science teachers who have more than four years of teaching experience, were interviewed about describing each teacher's experience throughout one's years of teaching. The grounded theory introduced by Strauss and Corbin (1998) was used to analyze the data in this study. The results of paradigm analysis revealed that STE is influenced by 125 concepts, 38 sub-categories, and 16 categories. In a paradigm model, the central phenomenon was 'constructing STE', and the causal condition was 'want to be a teacher' as career choice motivation. The contextual conditions that have an affect on the central phenomenon were 'self awareness of the teacher' and 'social awareness of the teacher.' The mediate conditions, which facilitated or restrained the action/interaction strategies, were 'societal tendency', 'school climate', and 'personal context.' The action/interaction strategies to control the phenomenon were 'following the line,' 'identifying effective teaching strategies,' 'taking teacher education programs,' and 'contributing to school improvement.' The consequences were 'teacher's self awareness', 'challenge,' and 'stagnating in teaching.' The overall conclusion drawn from this research is that, the definition of STE is beliefs in science teachers' capabilities to set up objects in some school teaching context and, organize and execute the course of action required to attain these. Additionally, STE has three dimensions of teacher's behaviors: science instructional efficiency, efficiency in engaging students, and efficiency in managing school conditions. This study offers insight into the nature of STE and theoretical framework. These findings may give science teachers and teacher educators the practical knowledge necessary to build effective training programs and interventions that would help increase STE and facilitate effective teaching.

  • The ADHD, a common condition of childhood onset, is of critical educational and social concern at every level of school. Investigating the determinants of teachers' ADHD coaching and their relative importance is important for improving teaching and counseling practice in inclusive education setting. Based on three hundred and fifty three survey responses from elementary, junior and high school teachers, this research examines the impact of knowledge level, facilitating condition, cooperation with parents, attitude of teachers toward teachers' ADHD coaching. Statistical analysis shows that the knowledge level and facilitating condition influence the level of teachers' attitude, and that attitude has some impact on the cooperation level with parents, at 5% significance level. The cooperation with parent, one of two precedence factors of ADHD coaching, was identified to be significant, but attitude was shown to be nonsignificant predictor of ADHD coaching. A brief discussion concerning the critical needs of teachers is also presented.

  • The purposes of this study were to understand what is physics teachers' perceptions of idealization and to explore their teaching experiences about idealization in their physics classes. In order to achieve these research purpose, we conducted in-depth interviews with ten Korean physics teachers. The interview data was transcribed and analyzed interpretively. The results are as follows: (1) Physics teachers are not familiar with the term of 'idealization' but they understand the meaning of idealization and ideal condition. (2) Physics teachers understand the necessity of explicit mentions of idealization and ideal conditions in physics classes. (3) Physic teachers adapt conceptions of idealization and ideal condition into their lectures, experimental classes and evaluation strategies. Thus, the results of this study can provide theocratical understanding of idealization. It will help develop teacher education programs and physics teaching strategies. This research also suggested follow-up research questions about idealization in the physics education field.

  • The purpose of this study was to obtain basic information for novice teachers' adjustment. The data from five novice teachers were collected by in-depth interviews of each subject, as well as reviewing a memo diary, journal and class diary. The results indicated that the novice teachers' experiences were categorized into difficulties in social relationships, heavy workload, stress related to making mistakes, obtaining support and assistance, adequate understanding of their field of work and so on. The model theory for their process of adjustment was found by grounded theory approach. The causal conditions include mistakes in performance of work and immaturity of managing social relationships. The contexts include age of the children, work conditions(i.e. time and space), amount of workload, unfamiliarity of new work assignments, personalities of colleagues, and high frequency of meeting parents of children. The intervening conditions are composed of a guidance program for novice teachers, support from colleagues, work rewards, and the personalities of novice teachers. The novice teacher use three strategies: trying to ignore, sharing difficulties and accessing support from friends or family, as well as willful efforts to transfer negative emotions into positive ones. The consequences of the strategies include: successful career progression, survival, and desire for leaving the field of work.
