  • This study intends to provide sources which enable students to satisfy uniform design as I surveyed preferable uniform design and degree of satisfaction of uniform design to students. The subjects were gathered into 91 middle-high schools and surveys were done among 400 school girls. The results are as follows; 1)The survey of uniform which students wear. For jacket, tailored collar which is single breasted is most common and for blouse, puff sleeve, soutein collar, shirt collar is common. For skirt, lastly, they usually wear side pleats skirt. 2) Thoughts of uniform students preferred uniform to casual. The merit of wearing uniform can represent themselves as the ‘students’on the other hand, the demerit is shown that uniform is inconvenient enough to move. 3)Preference of uniform design. Students prefer tailored jacket, shirt blouse, flare skirt. Basing on these results above, I’d like to suggest something about uniform. The demerit of wearing uniform lies in inconvenience. It would weaken the degree of satisfaction of uniform and have a negative influence on students in physical and mental side. So we have to find out the concrete problems, at the same time, develop measurable study which fit for body. Adolescence is period of developing and establishing self. So they really need rather creative educational atmosphere than stereo typed-control. Reflecting this opinion, Clothing habits can play an important role and in future it is desirable to have students wear not uniform but casual.

  • The market share of conglomerates is increasing in the Korean school uniform market these days. Functional fit problems occurred. Girls choose slim silhouette often experienced fit problems. The purpose of this study is to probe for functional design elements of high school girls' uniforms. A questionnaire survey was carried out. 202 high school girls took part in the survey. The questionnaire measured school uniform brand preference and size of school uniform jackets. The results of the survey show that over half of participants(56.6%) wore their jackets over nine hours per day. They considered the aesthetics of the design as the most important factor when purchasing school uniforms. That element affected their brand preference. In analyses of the fit suitability, there were no significant differences between brands. The jacket lengths were significantly different among brands, but all were evaluated as being short. About 60% of students had difficulty raising their arms while wearing their school uniform jackets. The results of this study revealed that high school girls' uniform jackets are too short and tight. Ergonomic design elements should be applied to high school girls' uniform jackets.

  • A good school uniform leads students to good behavior and have them enjoy desirable school life. Therefore a better fabric for girls' high school uniform suggested through two series of studies; first, examined the various aspects of current uniforms. Second, made a new fabric for uniform considering elasticity for activity and comfortableness, and compared its characteristics with those of the current uniforms. The results are as follows; 1 Most of students wanted uniforms considering elasticity for activity and wearing. 2. The measurement of the elasticities of the uniform materials showed that the material which was made using the elastic material was more elastic than the currently used material by 42.12% in summer material and 20.05% in winter one. 3. The analysis using the combination of the values of mechanical properties showed that the elastic material was better in the wearing, tactile senses, and drape properties than the current material, even though it was a little worse in shape-stability. 4. To compare the thermal insulation, clo values were measured. For winter uniform, the elastic material was better than the current one in keeping warm. However, This study did not find any big difference between summer uniform materials.

The school uniform represents significant meanings to the students in their school years, and it is the way of expressing their individuality and full filling their needs for self-presentation. Therefore, understanding and analyzing youth culture means understanding students' school uniform along with fast changing twenty first century civilization. • In terms of junior high school girls' growth patterns during early adolescence, unlike childhood when relatively balanced growth patterns are found and high school years in which the normal adult body type is almost reached, junior high school girls display imbalanced and rapid growth. In fact, diverse size changes by body part occur with a significant difference among individuals. Therefore, it has been difficult for junior high school students to select their exact size when buying a school uniform. This study attempted to develop winter blouse and skirt patterns reflecting the latest comfortable and active school uniform trends, using middle school girl avatars of various body shapes. Skirt and blouse pattern-drawing methods and margins differed. Based on such results, research prototypes were prepared. Then, virtual wear prospective drawings, clothing pressure, and appearance were assessed by body shape. Skirts were assessed with 22 factors while blouses were analyzed with 25 factors. Then, correlations between skirts and blouses were analyzed. According to the analysis, the reason why the dart & pleats position and margin were rated low was confirmed. In a virtual wear assessment on skirt patterns by body shape, a significant difference was found in all categories except for position of the hip circumference, margin of the hips, width of the skirt, and appropriateness of waist line position. The virtual wear assessment on the blouse patterns by body shape also revealed a significant difference in all categories but fit and shape pf the back part. In blouses, a significant difference was observed around shoulders and waist in type 1 and around the belly in type 2. On the contrary, for skirts, a significant difference was found around the hips and waists in type 1 and type 2. Therefore, these factors should be considered in making blouses and skirts. The above results suggested that skirt and blouse patterns should vary by body shape. It is anticipated that there should be further studies comparing brand-name school uniforms for high school girls and school uniforms by body shape.
