This study was designed to investigate the relations of motivation to related variables, and the motivation by student's variables basically through measure of motivation system about science learning. For this, 496 fourth-grade students and 425 eighth-grade students were required to accomplish a questionnaire on behavioral inhibition/activation system about science learning (SL-BIS/BAS), and self-efficacy. Based on these materials, SLBIS/BAS by student's variables and relations between the system to self-efficacy were analyzed. The result of this study shows the following:First, the sensitivity about SL-BIS in the eighth-grade was higher than in the fourth-grade. But sensitivity about SLBAS and self-efficacy in the eighth-grade was lower than in the fourth-grade Hence, the difference in sensitivity about SL-BIS/BAS agree with difference in motivation. Second, there were low negative correlation with SL-BIS and self-efficacy, and positive correlation with SL-BAS and self-efficacy. In addition, two systems account for 41% of self-efficacy, it showed that SL-BIS/BAS relates to self-efficacy. Through the results of this study, relations of motivation to related variables, and the motivation by student's variables were identified. These results would be helpful for teachers to understand the difference about motivation by students' variables and to make a plan for the appropriate strategies for learners.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of teachers' motivation for choosing teaching on the relationship with career adaptability through self-directed learning in 271 pre-service early childhood teachers. As a result of the study, first, career adaptability, self-directed learning, and motivation for choosing teaching were high in order. Second, there was a positive correlation that the higher the motivation for choosing a teaching profession, the higher the self-directed learning and career adaptation, and the higher the self-directed learning, the higher the career adaptation. Third, it was found that self-directed learning of pre-service early childhood teachers partially mediated teachers' motivation for choosing teaching and career adaptability. This study is significant in that it sought various perspectives in practicing high-quality early childhood teacher education program and provided basic data on teacher education program.

The existing CAI or web-based science learning system of elementary school has some disadvantages. For instance, it is composed of uniform courses designed by an instructor without considering the learner's characters, and the learner's opinions or questions raised during learning can not be delivered to the system. This structure has diminished the willingness or the motive of the learner and make an adverse effect on the learning efficiency. In this regards, Instruction-Learning System is needed to provide learning environment Pertinent to the learner's individual character and motivate the learner's active attendance and learning. This study is to design a character-based conversational Instruction-Learning System. This may induce the learner's active attendance through the communications between instructor and learner and furnish various learning materials to motivate the learners and attract their consistent interests in learning.

The purposes of this study were to develop the customized instructional programs by the causes of science underachievement and to identify the effectiveness of these programs. For these, we analyzed the characteristics of underachievers and causes of science underachievement and classified 22 7th grade science underachievers into three different types such as lack of science process skill, lack of science learning motivation, and lack of science learning strategy. They then were divided into the experimental and comparative groups. Instructional programs treated for both groups covered the same topics and were conducted once a week for 60 minutes each time for 15 weeks. Eleven students in the comparative group were treated with an activity-centered science program that dealt with basic science concepts. Unlike science underachievers in the comparative group, those in the experimental group were given customized instructional program. After the treatment, students were administered several tests including a test on awareness of the program, science process skill test, science learning motivation and strategy test, and academic science achievement test. In addition to the results of those tests, worksheets, daily activity reports, and interviews were used to evaluate a customized instructional program that was applied to the experimental group. Results of the study showed that these programs relieved science underachievers from the cause of poor achievement and accordingly help them achieve better performance in academics. In addition, both lack of learning motivation and lack of learning strategy types tended to relieve the other causes of science underachievement. Also, the experimental group showed a high level of satisfaction with the customized instructional programs.

A developed Web-aided laboratory program visualized invisible gas. In the Web-aided laboratory temperature and pressure were controlled and the resultant findings were presented as types of graphs, disclosed in the form of an analyzed report. A Web-aided laboratory experiment and traditional experiment group(2 classes) were assembled from a farming village co-educational high school and taught the motion of molecule lesson for 2 class hours. Before actual class instruction, to survey learner motivation characteristics, the short-version GALT, the test of attitudes toward science instruction, was administered. After instruction, student learning achievement, TOSRA, and IMMS, were administered to the two groups. To analyze data ANCOVA was administrated. Result found that attitudes towards science instruction did not significantly differ, but learning motivation and achievement were significantly altered.

Investigations into how the status of prior learning on the textbook of science were conducted, and the effects of prior learning on students' attitudes towards science class were carried out. The investigations for the status of prior learning were performed with a number of students who experienced prior learning, (self-directed and unself-directed prior learning), a selfless intention as the starting motive for prior learning, the problem solving strategies used by students in prior learning, and the important factor that influenced prior learning. The effects of prior learning on student attitude towards science class were also examined with respect to four categories, including confidence, interest, learning intention, and value (effect). The effects of prior learning on the four categories were analyzed on the basis of the students' level of scientific achievement, the types of prior learning, the starting motive for prior learning, and the extent of the students' understanding of the content on prior learning. The analytical results for the effects of prior learning on students' attitudes towards science class showed that the mean values of confidence, learning intention, and value among the students in the self-directed prior learning group were higher than those of the students in the unself-directed prior learning group. These findings are the result of positive recognition, such as the possibility that the students experienced with self-directed prior learning can do, the induction of an inherent motive based on their level of achievement in science class, and the operant learning of strategies for solving problems in science class. Meanwhile, by the effects of having a teacher lead the science class and the consensus formed between friends, the mean level of interest was higher in the unself-directed prior learning than in the self-directed prior learning.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the influences of small group learning using smart devices in science classes on students' achievement, learning motivation, attitude toward science lessons, and perception of small group learning using smart devices. Four 11th-grade classes (N=133) at a coed high school in Seoul were randomly assigned to a control group and a treatment group. The intervention of small group learning using smart devices emphasized collaborative writing on activity sheet. The students were taught about acid, base, and neutralization reaction for six class periods. After the instructions, an achievement test, the learning motivation test, the attitude toward science lessons test, and a questionnaire on the perception of small group learning using smart devices were administered. Two-way ANCOVA results revealed that there was a statistically significant interaction effect by their previous chemistry achievement in the achievement test scores. Only low-level students in small group learning using smart devices significantly improved their achievement probably by having the opportunities to get help from high-level students. The adjusted means of the treatment group were significantly higher than those of the control group in learning motivation and attitude toward science lessons. Students' perceptions of small group learning using smart devices tended to be positive. Educational implications of this study are discussed.
