과학 교과서에 사용된 과학사 자료 분석을 위한 3차원 틀 개발 및 적용 : 지구과학 내용을 중심으로

  • 과학교육에서 효과적인 과학 수업을 위하여 과학사 도입의 중요성이 계속 강조되어 왔다. 이에 따라 과학 교과서에는 많은 과학사 자료가 사용되고 있다. 하지만 과학 교과서에 사용된 과학사 자료가 어떤 유형과 맥락에서 어떠한 역할을 하고 있는 지에 대한 면밀한 분석은 이루어지지 못한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 선행 연구와 관련 문헌 분석을 통해 과학 교과서에 사용된 과학사 자료를 분석하기 위한 3차원 틀을 개발하고, 이를 제 7차 교육과정의 과학 교과서 지구과학 내용을 대상으로 적용하였다. 개발된 분석틀은 수업맥락, 역할, 제시유형의 3개 차원으로 구성된다. 수업맥락 차원은 흥미, 사회-문화적, 인식론적, 개념적 맥락의 4가지 영역으로 세분되며, 제시유형 차원은 에피소드/일화, 발견/고안, 선형적인 발전, 역사적 실험의 4가지 영역으로 세분된다. 역할 차원은 기본적, 보충적, 탐구적의 3가지 영역으로 세분된다. 개발된 3차원 분석틀을 적용하여 과학 교과서의 지구과학사 자료들을 분석한 결과, 수업맥락 차원에서는 개념적 맥락의 과학사 자료가 모든 학년별 과학 교과서에서 가장 많았다. 역할 차원에서는 기본적 역할이 압도적으로 많았으며, 탐구적 역할의 경우에는 매우 적었다. 제시유형 차원에서는 발견/고안과 선형적인 발전 유형이 대부분이었고, 에피소드/일화 유형의 자료는 주로 흥미 맥락과 연계되어 극히 일부만 사용되고 있었다. 3차원 각 영역들을 48개의 조합으로 분석한 결과, '개념적 수업맥락-기본적 역할-발견/고안 유형'과 '개념적 수업맥락-기본적 역할-선형적 발전 유형' 2개 조합에 집중되었으며, 나머지 조합들의 빈도는 매우 낮았다. 전체적으로 3차원 분석틀 각 영역에 부합하는 과학사 자료가 과학 교과서에 다양하게 포함되지 못하고 일부 영역에만 집중되는 것으로 나타났으며, 이러한 연구 결과는 앞으로 다양한 수업맥락, 역할, 그리고 유형으로 과학사 자료들이 개발될 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

The Characteristics of Science History Materials for the 2015 Revised Middle School 'Science' Textbooks Based on Three-Dimensional Analysis (삼차원 분석에 기초한 2015 개정 중학교 『과학』 교과서 과학사 자료의 특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the science history materials presented in middle school 'Science' textbook according to the 2015 revised curriculum. The subjects of this study were 14 middle school 'Science' textbooks. The analysis used the three-dimensional framework. The results of analysis show that the number of science history materials presented in textbooks tends to increase as the grade goes up. It was also found that science history materials were presented in a specific unit for each grade. The three-dimensional analysis of science history materials showed that conceptual-fundamental-discovery/device types were most commonly presented in all grades. At the instruction context level, the conceptual context was the most common, and the basic role was the main at the role level. The discovery/device type was the most common type of presentation. The results of the study show that the science history materials presented in science textbooks were concentrated in some areas. Also, the instruction context and role were concentrated in some factors in terms. This suggests that various science history materials need to be developed in the future. It is also necessary to explore concrete methods to ensure that science history materials presented in textbooks can be used in various roles in different contexts.

Analysis of the Introduced Contents and the Nature of Science on the History of Science in Elementary School Science Textbooks according to the 2009 Revised Curriculum (2009 개정 초등 과학교과서의 과학사 도입 내용과 과학의 본성 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the introduced contents and the nature of science on the history of science in elementary school science textbooks according to the 2009 revised curriculum. For this purpose, first of all, the frequency of contents of history of science in 8 kinds of science textbooks in elementary school is analyzed by grade cluster and content part. Analysis framework for analyzing the introduced contents on the history of science was characterized with three-dimensional combination of the context, the role and the types(Park, Lee, & Lee, 2011). Analysis framework for the nature of science on the history of science was developed by Leite(2002) and revised by Choi (2005) and Kim(2010) and complemented under one expert in science education. The results of this study are as follows: First, the frequency of contents of history of science in textbook is 26 and it were not equally distributed into science textbooks in elementary school as a result of the analysis by grade cluster and content part. Second, with three-dimensional combination framework only 13 kinds were used in all 48 different types through analyzing the textbooks. It implies that ways of introducing contents of history of science into textbooks were limited to certain types. Third, the nature elements of science were not equally distributed on the history of science in elementary school science textbooks. In conclusion, in order to understand the nature of science through the history of science and to foster scientific literacy ultimately, it implicates that it is need to present various kinds of the history of science for one theme in consideration about the grade cluster and content part. Also more multilateral approach is need to introduce equally distributed into textbooks to reflect the elements of the nature of science.

Development and Application of Three Dimensional Framework for Analyzing the History of Science Content in Science Textbook: Focus on the History of Earth Science (과학 교과서의 과학사 자료 분석을 위한 삼원 분석틀 개발 및 적용: 지구과학사를 중심으로)

  • History of science (HOS, hereafter) has been considered as a useful tool for achieving a variety of objectives in science lesson. The purpose of this study was to develop three dimensional framework for effectively analyzing HOS content in science textbook. In addition, using this framework, we analyzed HOS content in science textbooks of the 7th curriculum by focusing on the history of Earth science. Developed framework consists of three dimensions; instruction context, role, and type. Each dimension has several sub-domains. The results of textbook analysis revealed that science textbook didn't include diverse HOS materials that are appropriate to three dimensions and its sub-domains of the framework. Based on the results, we proposed that three dimensional framework is an effective tool to develop materials for teaching and learning materials of HOS with multiple coordinations of various contexts and purposes.

Exploring the High School Students' Perception of Relationships among History of Science, Science, and History: Focus on 'History of Science' in the 2015 Revised Science Curriculum (고등학생들의 과학사, 과학, 역사 과목에 대한 관계인식 탐색 -2015 개정 과학과 교육과정 진로선택 과목 '과학사'를 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore high school students' perception of the relationship among science, history, and history of science which is one of the career elective subjects in the 2015 revised science curriculum. This study compares students' perception before and after experiencing history of science course. To do this, data in the format of Venn diagram that students draw to represent their perception on relationship between the history of science, science, and history were collected. The collected data were inductively categorized. As a result of analyzing the Venn Diagram data, there are five different kinds of categories: 'History of science as an intersection of science and history,' 'History of science as an independent domain,' 'History of science as part of history,' 'History of science as part of science,' and 'History of science encompassing both science and history.' And there were 27 different sub-categories within the 5 categories. In addition, before taking the course on history of science, many students tended to regard science history as the intersection of science and history. However, after the course, students' perception changed and differed according to their affiliated academic track. For the humanities, history of science is perceived as part of history, and for the students in science track it is perceived as a part of science. Based on these findings, we suggest that history of science teaching-learning should be conducted that help high school students to experience a new perspective that is different from the curriculum in affiliated academic track.

Exploring Science Communicators' Competencies for Public Understanding of Science (PUS): Focusing on National and International Science Communicators' Curriculums (과학대중화를 위한 과학관 해설사 역량 탐색 : 국내·외 과학관 해설사 교육과정을 중심으로)

  • Science museums are platforms of PUS (public understanding of science). The purpose of this study was to explore the science communicators' competencies critical in interacting with visitors from the comparison of their training and professional development programs nationally and internationally. The managers running science communicators' programs and communicators themselves from six different national science museums and those from five different international ones participated in the structured survey. The data from surveys were compared among respondents to draw common and specific descriptions for communicators' competencies. In addition, the experienced exemplary science communicator, Ms. Park, participated in this study and the data from her observation field notes, her own developed science communicators' manual, and interviews were used to support the result. The contextual model of learning in science museums (Falk, 2006) was used to illustrate science communicators' expertise. National managers and science communicators showed difference in their perception about science communicators' roles, difficulties, and improvement for their competencies. Internationally, the managers and science communicators showed similar perception about communicators' competencies in terms of the contextual model of learning. It is highly suggested that practice-based science communicators' training and professional development programs must be offered on the basis of interaction between experienced and novice communicators as mentors and mentees systems.

Effect of Instruction Utilizing History of Science on the Science Achievement and Attitude of Middle School Students: In the Chapter of 'Water Cycle and Weather Change (과학사 활용 수업이 과학 학업성취도와 태도에 미치는 효과; 중학교 '물의 순환과 날씨변화' 단원을 중심으로)

  • The effects of education utilizing history of science on science achievement and attitudes of the ninth grade students were investigated according to their achievement level, along with the development of teaching and ;earning materials. A total of 144 ninth grade students were divided into the experiment and control group. Instructing students using history of science was performed in the experiment group, while conventional instruction was used in the control group. The scores of both pre-test and post-test were estimated by ANCOVA. Instructions applying history of science were more effective in increasing the students' science achievement and attitude than conventional instructions. In particular, the former enhanced the achievements of the upper-level students, more than it did for the middle and lower-level students. In addition, using history of science showed a better effect on higher and middle-level students, in improving their attitudes toward science, than it did for lower-level students. This study suggests that the instruction utilizing history of science should be designed based on the students' achievement level, and that various teaching and learning materials related to the instruction were helpful.

  • 지난 호에서도 언급한 바와 같이 컴퓨터용어는 아직 순화단계에 있어 남한에서도 통일된 것이 없고, 같은 영어 낱말을 여러 가지로 사용하는 경우가 많다. 예로 「interrupt」를 정익사판 컴퓨터용어사전에는 「인터럽트」로 영어발음을 그대로 우리말로 표기한 반면, 다른 용어사전에서는 「가로채기」, 「개입중단」등으로 되어 있다. 현재 남한에서 발간 된 컴퓨터용어 관련자료로는 크라운사, 교학사, 대은사 및 정익사 발행의 컴퓨터용어사전과 하이텔 이용자 모임순화안, 서울대 뉴미디어통신공동연구소 HDTV용어사전, 한국과학기술원 인공지능연구센터안, 교육부 편수자료 등이 있고 1993년 1월에 발간된 문화체육부의 전산기 기본용어 순화시안이 최신 것이라 하겠다. 이곳에서는 주로 1990년 정익사에서 출판한 한국정보과학회편 「컴퓨터용어사전」과 1986년 북한의 과학, 백과사전 출판사에서 발간한 전웅편저「전자계산기프로그람용어사전」을 참조하여 비교하였고, 참고로 문화체육부에서 내어놓은 순화시안도 함께 병기하였다. 지면상 모든 용어를 비교한다는 것은 불가능하여 남한과 북한에서 서로 다르게 부르는 용어 중 일부분만을 다음 표에 나열한다.

Professionals' Opinion of Science Education Using History of Science (과학사 활용 과학 교육에 대한 전문가 의견 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze professionals' opinion about science education using history of science. For this purpose, we surveyed professionals in the field of science education and history of science (HOS), 30 professionals in the first survey and 84 professionals in the second survey. The results are as follows: First, they focused the nature of science in the science education using HOS. Second, they suggested the need for development of teaching and learning materials for using HOS in class. Third, they proposed action-based science teacher training for using HOS. Fourth, there appeared differences of professionals' opinion in some areas. Lastly, they did not make a high agreement in the need of history of eastern science including history of Korean science. It is necessary to develop teaching and learning materials in the history of eastern science.
