The purpose of this study is to investigate the features of science classes of Science Core Schools (SCSs) perceived by students. 654 students from 14 SCSs were surveyed with two open-ended questions on the features of science classes. The students' responses were analyzed with NetMiner 4.5, in terms of the centrality (of betweenness and of degree) analysis and the community analysis. The results of the research are as follows: (1) the science classes of SCSs were perceived by students to be of the environment of free questioning, active participation and communication, caring teacher, more science experiments and advanced contents, and knowledge sharing; (2) science classes in SCSs were perceived to be different from those of ordinary high schools because SCSs provide more opportunities for science-related special courses (like project work, advanced science subjects), extra-curricular activities, inquiry and research activities, school supports, hard-working classroom environment, longer studying hours, R&E and club activities. The students' perceptions of SCS science classes appear to be in line with the characteristics of 'good' science lessons from previous studies. The SCS project itself and the features of SCS science classes would help us to see how we introduce educational innovations into actual schools.

Twelve middle school gifted education institution and science high school students participated in this study. Data source was retrospective and in-depth interviews with individuals. Results were as follows. First, science experience with parents influenced interest and inquiring mind in science, choice of career in field of science. Second, science experience in school curriculum recognized that gifted students have talents of themselves in science and changed in Attitude toward science from science teacher. Third, science experience with education institution for out of school curriculum changed interest in science from Experiment for identified scientific knowledge and obtained new product through creative inquiry process. Furthermore, It was gained self-confidence, feel a sense of accomplishment and a challenging, the spirit of team work including of taking lead the team.
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of utilizing educational game content for science learning on science-related attitudes. The content was applied to 24 students in an after-school science club at an elementary school in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province followed by a pre and posttest analysis using the Attitude About the Relevance of Science Test and the Creative Personality Test. This study used Tino's Journey, which was developed by the Korea Creative Content Agency and is currently distributed for free through the Ministry of Education to develop nine lessons that include scientific scenarios and concepts presented in the game. The results demonstrated that science lessons utilizing educational game content significantly influenced the science-related attitudes of the students. Among the subdomains, enjoyment of science lessons increased the most followed by the attitude toward scientific inquiry, social meaning of science, and hobby of science. However, the commonness of scientists, acceptance of scientific attitudes, and career in science did not reveal significant differences. This study classified the students into two groups (i.e., high and low, n=12 each) using the Creative Personality Test in advance. This study performed covariate analysis with the score for pre-science-related attitude as the covariate. Result revealed that the scores for science-related attitude significantly differed between the high and low groups. Specifically, the increase in the scores of the low group was larger than that of the high group. Lastly, the study presented implications for the utilization of educational game content in science learning.
The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences of Science Chief Teachers in schools, focusing on the specific activities in which they engage during the school year as a part of the science curriculum in the school. To do so, five research participants were selected who were in charge of the activities of the Science Chief Teacher in elementary schools. After the interviews, their activities and roles were categorized into "planning and implementation" and "management and supplementation." In addition, the research participants were asked to bring documents they had drafted and provide information about accomplishments related to science contests, lists of materials and equipment used in science labs, and other materials to be used as reference data for the research. As prompted by the research, the category of "planning and implementation," which represented the activities conducted by the Science Chief Teachers, was further classified into "operation of the intramural events for the Month of Science at the beginning of the school year," "participation in contests sponsored by the Office of Education in accordance with the results of the intramural events," " the operation of the science club in school," and "preparation for the end of the year evaluation of the science education performance." As for the category of "management and supplementation," it was further classified into "constant management and improvement of the science lab," "maintenance of the relationship with the public service officials present at science lab," and "management of other matters related to the science education." Through this study, it was possible to look into the activities of the Science Chief Teachers who supported the smooth progress of science education in schools. This study will provide implications for improving the work efficiency of the Chief Science Teachers and indicate the difficulties expected in the future.

The aim of this study is to see school science education from the perspective of CoP (Community of Practice) and to explore the possibility of strategic CoP in Korean school settings. To do this, we conducted a survey using SCaCoP instrument with more than 1600 students from 14 science core schools (SCSs), which were selected across the country, and analyzed their school curriculum, which can be summarized as follows: First, compared to other tracks in SCSs, like the Nature and the Humanity Classes, students of the Science Core Class (SCC) showed significantly higher scores of CoP features for all five factors of SCaCoP (i.e. responsibility of learning, common interest, mutual relationship, open participation, and practice). Second, students of SCC considered activities that require interaction and collaboration among community members (like experiments, hands-on activities, club activities, project works, R&E) to be very positive. Third, SCC students thought that the educational activities of SCSs were not only effective to CoP aims (i.e. self-driven learning, sharing learning outcomes, peer collaboration) but also positive to general aims of science education (i.e. acquiring knowledge, understanding scientific concepts, science-related attitudes). In other words, it appears that educational activities that were effective in vitalizing the CoP have positive effects on ordinary science education, too. These features of SCSs illustrate its possibility of forming strategic COPs in the context of often government-driven Korean education and of bringing in the innovations of school science education.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the students' perception of the learning support system of Korea Science Academy and to propose improvements to it. The impact of the science learning support system on 129 gifted students in Korea Science Academy (KSA) was estimated by using Likert-type items and the multiple-choice method approach for more comprehensive evaluation. The results of our investigation are as follows: First, the learning support system of KSA appears globally useful to the students. The list of educational usefulness to the students comprises, in the decreasing order of utility, classroom work, Internet, lab activities, reading rooms, library, research meetings and clubs, academic advisors (AA), SAF (Science Academy Fair), e-learning system, and finally colloquia by invited lecturers. Second, what the gifted students hope for in the realm of learning support from KSA are learning guides by subject teachers, presentation skill program, the constructions of on/off-line learning communities, etc. It seems that the results of this study would be helpful in improving the learning support system, and will provide useful information for planning the direction of future science-gifted education programs at the high-school level.
Given the substantial industrial and economic contributions of university start-ups, a growing number of studies have adopted the ecosystem perspectives to systematically explain creating start-ups in universities. Despite the huge theoretical potential, few studies have analyzed the complex, complimentary interactions of the core components in the university entrepreneurship ecosystems (UEEs). Addressing the limitation, this research not only discusses the role of the core ecosystem components, such as patents, entrepreneurship education, and student entrepreneurship clubs, but also analyzes their discrete and complimentary effects on the productivity of UEEs. Based on a national survey of universities, this study shows that all the core components have a positive effect on the ecosystem productivity. More importantly, this study investigated the complimentary relationships among components and tested the moderation effects of both the entrepreneurship education and the student clubs on the relationship between the patents and the productivity of UEEs. The analysis results show that the student clubs intensify the patents' positive effect on the productivity of UEEs. The research results could provide the crucial policy insights for the successful design of UEEs.

This study was designed to explore how learners' participation develop if provided with opportunities for various scientific practices and experiences in writing science magazine articles as an extra-curricular club activity and what factors facilitate these participation development. Data from participant observations, in-depth interviews with students, and documents were used to extract the common characteristics of the practices. The learners' development was categorized into 3 stages in terms of participation in the community of practice: peripheral participation, transitional participation, and full participation. As participation develops, situational interest developed to individual interests and value attachment. Students sought to get ideas from every day life, and finally, in the stage of full participation, advances in writing showed the characteristics of knowledge transformation. Best of all, the participants enjoyed and valued their participation showing identities as journalists. The nature of science magazine article, external scaffolding, and internalization through enjoyment and value attachment appeared to be decisive factors that facilitate the development of participation. Student's enculturation of writing for learning offers a possibility that continue to do so, even after they have left formal schooling and make a basis for lifelong learning.
The purpose of this study is to check awareness of 'the phenomenon of women's alienation in Yon-Ko-Jeon' to women students, and improve the gender equality for Yon-Ko-Jeon through IPA(Importance Performance Analysis). For this study, 322 women undergraduates at Yonsei University and Korea University, from sophomore to senior students, are selected and asked to be surveyed. At first, a majority of women students from two universities didn't recognize the lack of women sports and athletes in Yon-Ko-Jeon. Moreover, they didn't think about women's alienation in Yon-Ko-Jeon as well as improvement for the issue seriously. It shows the life style of gender in the sport. Second, as a result of IPA, improvement plan of Yon-Ko-Jeon on gender equality shows it needs to reflect member's opinion and introduce women sports clubs first. Recently, the improvement for the Yon-Ko-Joen is the top priority because the event doesn't reflect member's opinion. Furthermore, it shows that Yon-Ko-Jeon needs to introduce the competition of women's club sports. These are what the event has to improve.

The Ministry of Education selected and implemented 'science core school' since 2009 as a policy to strengthen science education to produce talented science students. This study judged that it is necessary to examine the current management practice and diagnose problems to propose improvement measures for more successful management of science core school in the future. To this end, we interviewed and observed teachers and students at a high school specialized in science based in Gyeonggi province which was selected as a science core school, as qualitative study methods such as interview and observation to survey and analyze the current management practice of the school. The management outcome was that the school contributed to fostering talented students in natural sciences and engineering because more varied activities were implemented at the school to develop scientific knowledge of students including experiment, excursion, and circle activity. Identified problems were increased amount of private education due to intense competition over school achievement, negligence of extracurricular activities, burdensome workload for teachers of specific subjects, and lack of expertise of math and science teachers. In conclusion, the following improvement measures are suggested for sustainable management of science core schools: greater liberty should be granted to science core schools; more training opportunities should be given to teachers; college admission program should be improved for science core school students; and it is necessary to introduce courses taught by external teachers, and provide systematic support such as increasing administration staff.
