Recommendation System of University Major Subject based on Deep Reinforcement Learning (심층 강화학습 기반의 대학 전공과목 추천 시스템)

  • Existing simple statistics-based recommendation systems rely solely on students' course enrollment history data, making it difficult to identify classes that match students' preferences. To address this issue, this study proposes a personalized major subject recommendation system based on deep reinforcement learning (DRL). This system gauges the similarity between students based on structured data, such as the student's department, grade level, and course history. Based on this information, it recommends the most suitable major subjects by comprehensively considering information about each available major subject and evaluations of the student's courses. We confirmed that this DRL-based recommendation system provides useful insights for university students while selecting their major subjects, and our simulation results indicate that it outperforms conventional statistics-based recommendation systems by approximately 20%. In light of these results, we propose a new system that offers personalized subject recommendations by incorporating students' course evaluations. This system is expected to assist students significantly in finding major subjects that align with their preferences and academic goals.

A Study on the Teaching Method for a Efficient EMI Education of Engineering major Subjects (공학 전공과목 영어강의에서 효율적인 교수법 연구)

  • This paper deals with a teaching method in EMI(English Medium Instructor) Education for engineering major subjects which is accomplished between non-native english speaking professors and students. Goals of EMI in non-english speaking countries will be both a improvement of communication ability and understanding of the major subjects. However, when students who have a low level-english ability participate in english class, it is necessary to analyze whether they can obtain above goals or not and to study on a teaching method for them. The english classes were aimed at students at the college of engineering who have 200-420 TOEIC average score. The research was proceeded by course evaluations to three direct EMI and surveys that were performed targeting all students participated in english class. The proposed research results may lead to development of EMI for students who have a low level- english ability and give them a better understanding and interest of major subjects.

  • 우리나라 전기전자공학과는 완전히 분리되어 있고 그 외에도 제어계측공학과, 전산기공학과, 전자통신공학과 등으로 분리되어 있으나 선진국에서는 하나의 학과로 되어 있다. 그리고 우리나라의 교과과정은 졸업에 필요한 과목수가 지나치게 많아서 한과목을 깊게 공부하는대산 여러과목을 훑어보는 식으로 운용되어 왔다. 전공과목수가 9개(실제로는 미분방정식과 졸업논문을 제외하면 7개) 밖에 안된다고 해서 M.I.T.의 전기전자공학 교육이 우리나라보다 못하다고 말 할 수는 없다. MIT의 교과과정이 오늘과 같이 된데에는 오랜 연구와 경험이 필요하였다. 즉 기술 과목만을 많이 가르쳐서 졸업시키면 졸업생의 대부분이 인문사회 출신 사장 아래에서 기술자 역할밖에 못한다는 것을 알았던 것이다. 2차 대전 당시 레이다를 포함한 각종 신형전자장비를 개발한 것은 공대출신보다는 물리학과 수학과 출신의 역할이 컸던 것이다. 특히, SPUTNIK이 1957년에 발사된 이후 미국의 공대들은 과학과목에 큰 비중을 두게 되었던 것이다. 최근에는 그 반작용으로 설계과목에 비중을 두기 시작하였다. 졸업후 2-3년 지나면 별로 쓸모없는 과목들을 많이 가르치는 것보다는 기초적인 과목만을 충실하게 가르치는 것이 훨씬 좋다고 본다.

  • This study aimed to investigate the perception of students for the general creativity education in order to suggest the practical education for the improvement of their creativity. Most students chose 'discussion and projects' which indicates students preferred the class where they can mainly participate with a help of professors.

  • 나노기술종합발전계획이 2001년에 수립 추진된 이후 5년여동안 전국의 35개 대학에서 학부 및 석박사 과정에 나노관련 39개 학과가 개설되어 537명의 교수진이 참석하고 있으며 4,397명의 학생이 재학중이다. 다학제간 협력이 필요한 나노기술의 특성상 운영중인 교과목에도 이학계열과 공학계열 뿐만 아니라 다양한 전공과목이 포함되어 있으며, 향후 나노기술과 IT, BT, ET가 융합한 나노융합기술의 발전과 사회적인 요구에 따라 대학에서의 나노기술교육도 더욱 다양화 될 것으로 전망된다.

  • This paper reviews the general education curriculum in engineering colleges which are accredited or prepare to be accredited in Korea. And it researches the relation of the learning outcome of general education and course assessment. Most of engineering colleges usually operate core curriculum. They provided engineering students few specific general education courses if anything. Engineering students evaluated the outcome of the general education courses less than major courses. It is necessary to develop new general education courses for engineer like as the management for engineering students or leadership program Also the faculties teaching the general education courses need to develop new learning method and materials, which help students to achieve soft skills.

  • This paper introduces a model of practice education for creative problem solving, using five steps on CPS. Learners can get the motivation about development of creative thinking and problem solving skill through the theory of CPS. Furthermore, they can apply problem solving skill to various problem. As a result of the study, the learners could realize the importance of the problem definition and the creative problem solving method. We proposed a guideline about five steps of CPS method and a method about idea evaluation. So, we established the education model about leaners can get the creative problem-solving skill more efficiently.

Study of the relationship between class satisfaction and self-directed learning with in person and on-line classes: focused on the major classes of the department of dental technician of K university (대면수업과 온라인수업에 따른 수업 만족도와 자기주도 학습능력의 관계: K 대학 치기공학과 전공과목을 대상으로)

  • Purpose: The study aims to analyze differences in the satisfaction level of dental technology students regarding in-person and online classes. It also aims to provide fundamental resources for the improvement of major subject class methods that will improve students' self-directed learning abilities, thereby affecting their class satisfaction. Methods: In this study, a self-administered questionnaire was conducted from November 8 to November 30, 2021, for 256 dental technology students. The collected data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 21.0 statistical program. Frequency and percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, post-hoc test, correlation analysis, and linear regression analysis were performed to analyze the data. Results: In the self-directed learning abilities, the attitude of the learners was shown to have the highest positive (+) correlation in both in-person and online classes, with a statistically significant effect (p<0.001) on class satisfaction in major subject classes. Moreover, the explanatory power of the model was 52.2% and 39.7%, respectively. Conclusion: We concluded from the study that there is a need for professors to improve teaching methods to increase learners' self-directed learning competence, through problem-based learning, discussion learning, team-based collaborative learning, and mentor-mentee learning, thereby enabling learners to lead classes themselves.
