  • Finite field multipliers are the basic building blocks in many applications such as error-control coding, cryptography and digital signal processing. Recently, many semi-systolic architectures have been proposed for multiplications over finite fields. Also, Montgomery multiplication algorithm is well known as an efficient arithmetic algorithm. In this paper, we induce an efficient multiplication algorithm and propose an efficient semi-systolic Montgomery multiplier based on polynomial basis. We select an ideal Montgomery factor which is suitable for parallel computation, so our architecture is divided into two parts which can be computed simultaneously. In analysis, our architecture reduces 30%~50% of time complexity compared to typical architectures.

  • Cryptographic application and coding theory require operations in finite field $GF(2^m)$. In such a field, the area and time complexity of implementation estimate by memory and time delay. Therefore, the effort for constructing an efficient multiplier in finite field have been proceeded. Massey-Omura proposed a multiplier that uses normal bases to represent elements $CH(2^m)$ [11] and Agnew at al. suggested a sequential multiplier that is a modification of Massey-Omura's structure for reducing the path delay. Recently, Rayhani-Masoleh and Hasan and S.Kwon at al. suggested a area efficient multipliers for modifying Agnew's structure respectively[2,3]. In [2] Rayhani-Masoleh and Hasan proposed a modified multiplier that has slightly increased a critical path delay from Agnew at al's structure. But, In [3] S.Kwon at al. proposed a modified multiplier that has no loss of a time efficiency from Agnew's structure. In this paper we will propose a multiplier by modifying Rayhani-Masoleh and Hassan's structure and the area-time complexity of the proposed multiplier is exactly same as that of S.Kwon at al's structure for type-II optimal normal basis.

  • The divide-and-conquer method is efficiently used in parallel multiplier over finite field $GF(2^n)$. Leone Proposed optimal stop condition for iteration of Karatsuba-Ofman algerian(KOA). Ernst et al. suggested Multi-Segment Karatsuba(MSK) method. In this paper, we analyze the complexity of a parallel MSK multiplier based on the method. We propose a new parallel MSK multiplier whose space complexity is same to each other. Additionally, we propose optimal stop condition for iteration of the new MSK method. In some finite fields, our proposed multiplier is more efficient than the KOA.

  • In cryptosystems based on finite fields, a modular multiplication operation is the most crucial part of finite field arithmetic. Also, in multipliers with resource constrained environments, bit-serial output structures are used in general. This paper proposes two efficient bit-serial output multipliers with the polynomial basis representation for irreducible trinomials. The proposed multipliers have lower time complexity compared to previous bit-serial output multipliers. One of two proposed multipliers requires the time delay of $(m+1){\cdot}MUL+(m+1){\cdot}ADD$ which is more efficient than so-called Interleaved Multiplier with the time delay of $m{\cdot}MUL+2m{\cdot}ADD$. Therefore, in elliptic curve cryptosystems and pairing based cryptosystems with small characteristics, the proposed multipliers can result in faster overall computation. For example, if the characteristic of the finite fields used in cryprosystems is small then the proposed multipliers are approximately two times faster than previous ones.

  • The efficiency of the multiplier largely depends on the representation of finite filed elements such as normal basis, polynomial basis, dual basis, and redundant representation, and so on. In particular, the redundant representation is attractive since it can simply implement squaring and modular reduction. In this paper, we propose an efficient bit-parallel multiplier for GF(2m) defined by an irreducible all-one polynomial using a redundant representation. We modify the well-known multiplication method which was proposed by Karatsuba to improve the efficiency of the proposed bit-parallel multiplier. As a result, the proposed multiplier has a lower space complexity compared to the previously known multipliers using all-one polynomials. On the other hand, its time complexity is similar to the previously proposed ones.

  • In this paper, we implemented a scalar multiplier needed at an elliptic curve cryptosystem over standard basis in $GF(2^{163})$. The scalar multiplier consists of a radix-16 finite field serial multiplier and a finite field inverter with some control logics. The main contribution is to develop a new fast finite field inverter, which made it possible to avoid time consuming iterations of finite field multiplication. We used an algorithmic transformation technique to obtain a data-independent computational structure of the Extended Euclid GCD algorithm. The finite field multiplier and inverter shown in this paper have regular structure so that they can be easily extended to larger word size. Moreover they can achieve 100% throughput using the pipelining. Our new scalar multiplier is synthesized using Hyundai Electronics 0.6$\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS library, and maximum operating frequency is estimated about 140MHz. The resulting data processing performance is 64Kbps, that is it takes 2.53ms to process a 163-bit data frame. We assure that this performance is enough to be used for digital signature, encryption & decryption and key exchange in real time embedded-processor environments.

  • Compressors are widely used in high-speed electronic systems and are used to reduce the number of operands in multiplier. The proposed compressor is constructed based on the m-GDI(: modified gate diffusion input) to reduce the propagation delay time. This paper is compared the performance of compressors by applying 4-2, 5-2 and 6-2 m-GDI compressors to the multiplier, respectively. As a simulation results, compared to the 8-bit Dadda multiplier using the 4-2 and 6-2 compressor, the multiplier using the 5-2 compressor is reduced propagation delay time 13.99% and 16.26%, respectively. Also, the multiplier using the 5-2 compressor is reduced PDP(: Power Delay Product) 4.99%, 28.95% compared to 4-2 and 6-2 compressor, respectively. However, the multiplier using the 5-2 compression circuit is increased power consumption by 10.46% compared to the multiplier using the 4-2 compression circuit. In conclusion, the 8-bit Dadda multiplier using the 5-2 compressor is superior to the multipliers using the 4-2 and 6-2 compressors. The proposed circuit is implemented using TSMC 65nm CMOS process and its feasibility is verified through SPECTRE simulation.

  • Efficient finite field operation in the elliptic curve (EC) public key cryptography algorithm, which attracts much of latest issues in the applications in information security, is very important. Traditional serial finite multipliers root from Mastrovito's serial multiplication architecture. In this paper, we adopt the polynomial basis and propose a new finite field multiplier, inducing numerical expressions which can be applied to exhibit 3 times as much performance as the Mastrovito's. We described the proposed multiplier with HDL to verify and evaluate as a proper hardware IP. HDL-implemented serial GF (Galois field) multiplier showed 3 times as fast speed as the traditional serial multiplier's adding only Partial-sum block in the hardware.

  • In this paper, we restrict the case as m odd, n=mk, and propose and explicitly exhibit the architecture of a new parallel multiplier over the field GF($2^m$) with a type k Gaussian period which is a subfield of the field GF($2^n$) implements multiplication using the parallel multiplier over the extension field GF($2^n$). The complexity of the time and area of our multiplier is the same as that of Reyhani-Masoleh and Hasan's multiplier which is the most efficient among the known multipliers in the case of type IV.

  • This paper proposes a new $radix-2^4$ FFT algorithm and an efficient pipeline architecture based on this new algorithm for OFDM systems. The pipeline architecture based on the new algorithm has the same number of multipliers as that of the $radix-2^2$ algorithm. However, the multiplier complexity could be reduced by more than $30\%$ by replacing one half of the programmable complex multipliers by the newly proposed CSD constant complex multipliers. From synthesis simulations of a standard 0.35um CMOS Samsung process, a proposed CSD constant complex multiplier achieved more than $60\%$ area efficiency when compared with the conventional programmable complex multiplier. This promoted efficiency can be used for the design of a long length FFT processor in wireless OFDM applications which needs more power and area efficiency.
