  • This paper reports results of an investigation to determine properties of superplasticizered fly ash concrete. The mixture proportions of fly ash were 0, 10, 20 and 30%, by weight of cement, and superplasticizer was added as a percentage of fly ash, 0, 0.6, 12 and 1.8%. To investigate the effective use of the superplasticized fly ash concrete, the basic data were analyzed. The results obtained were summarized as follows : 1. The unit water content was decreased by 1%, 6% and increased by 2% to the ratio of addition of fly ash 10%, 20%, 30%, respectively, but in case of the superplasticized fly ash concrete, it was decreased by 3~16%, 4~14% and 10~17%, at 0.6, 12, and 1.8% dosage of superplasticizer, respectively. 2. In the properties of the fresh fly ash concrete, the slump loss was reduced with the ratio of replacement of fly ash increased, and with times went by. When using superplasticizer in fly ash substituting concrete, the fludity in the concrete was not decreased. 3. The compressive strength of fly ash concrete at early ages was lower than that of ordinary concrete. At the later age of 28 days, the compressive strength with 20% addition of fly ash was increased than that of ordinary concrete. In cased of 10%, 30% addition of fly ash, the compressive strength were reduced. From this, it was proved that the optimum amount of fly ash appears to be about 20%. The compressive strength at all ages of superplasticized fly ash concrete was significantly higher than that of fly ash concrete, with increasing fly ash content. 4. In case of the tensile strength, the effects of the increasing strength with the ages were similar to those of the compressive strtength, and at the later ages was seen a decreasing tendency of strengths. 5. The correlation between compressive and tensile strength of superplasticized fly ash concrete was highly significant. The multiple regression equations of compressive and tensile strength were obtained on a function of the mixture proportion of fly ash and the addition of superplasticizer. The relation between compressive and tensile strength is higher than for ordinary concrete. The strength ratio is 7~11, and it is higher than that of ordinary concrete, 8~10. 6. Bulk density was decreased by 1~3% compared with ordinary concrete with the mixture proportion of fly ash increased, 10~30%, and decreased by 1~2% with the superplasticizer added 0.6~1.8%.

  • Structural lightweight concrete will reduced total loads of supporting sections and foundations in archtectural and civil structures. So, the lightweight concrete can use widely for various purpose in the archtectural and civil structures. However, the performance of lightweight concrete is essentially dependent of properties of used lightweight aggregates. So, in this paper were examined the fresh and hardened properties of lightweight concrete that are used 3types of the differences properties of lightweight aggregates from lower water-ratio to higher water-ratio of concrete mixing regions. Lightweight concrete was somewhat exhibit larger slump loss than ordinary concrete. Also, the development of compressive strength was lower than ordinary concrete, however it was not showed a marked difference. According to types of lightweight aggregates, the case of synthetic lightweight aggregate are highest performance in fresh and hardened concrete, but it is should be to evaluate the structural performance testing as anchoring and bond strength with reinforcing steel bars.

  • In order to develop an Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC) suited to the Korean conditions, KICT has carried out several parts of research in the field of UHPC from 2003. KICT developed UHPC which was a structural material exhibiting very remarkable mechanical performances with compressive strength, tensile strength and flexural strength rising up to 200MPa, 15MPa and 35MPa, respectively. In addition, this material presents exceptional durability regard to the very low diffusion and penetration speeds of noxious substances like chloride ions. This 200MPa strength concrete has been effectively adopted for the construction of bridges like Sherbrooke Bridge in Canada in 1997, Sunyu Bridge in Korea in 2002, Meata Bridge in Japan in 2003, Sheperds Guelly Creek Bridge, the first ultra-high strength concrete highway bridge in Australia in 2004 and, more recently in 2005, Mars Hill highway bridge in USA in 2005. The construction of structures using ultra high performance concrete is a worldwide development trend of concrete technology for the construction of advanced facilities in the 21st century.

  • Fiber reinforcement has been being widely used in concrete to enhance the mechanical properties and to reduce the micro-cracking caused by plastic and drying shrinkage. While researches has been focused on the benefits of fiber reinforcement, the properties of fiber reinforced concrete are strongly dependent on the type, shape and the amount of fibers in concrete. In this study, the resistance of nylon fiber reinforced concrete against the chloride ion penetration was experimentally observed by NT Build 492. The test results showed that the addition of nylon fiber has little effect on the change of the resistivity of concrete to the chloride ion penetration.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate anti analyze the effect of iength of steel fiber and concrete admixt.ure such as iilica fume and fly ash on the workability arid engineering properties cbf steel fiber reinforced concxte (SFRC). As the results the follows art: found. First, it is poss ible to make steel fiber reinforced concrete having the consistency of IOcm slump and 28 days compressive strength of $600{\;}kgf/\textrm{m}^2$ by adopting low water binder ratios arid using :uperplasticizer. Second, the conipresslve and tensile strength of SWKC containing silica fume and fly ash is lower than those of plain concrete in the age after 28 days, but higher in the age after 28 days. Finally, tensde strength of SFHC is higher than that of plain concrete, and so adding the steel fibers in concrete increases the toughness.

  • In this research, as a measure of reducing energy lost through external wall, we used Glass Hollow Micro Sphere (HMS) to improve insulation performance to structural concrete. The following is a result of experimenting concrete using HMS. As usage of HMS, decrease in slump arose and it is judged as a need of using superplasticizer. Replacement ratio increasing more and more, amount of air showed tendency to decrease and compressive strength decreased for interfacial adhesion had not been formed. as replacement ratio and unit volume decreased. It appears that thermal conductivity decreased about 30.0~46.5 percent as compared with normal weight concrete.

  • The synthetic fibers including Polyvinyl alcohol and Polyethylene fibers have been successfully used in the manufacture of high ductile fiber reinforced cementitious composites. Polypropylene (PP) fiber has also been used in composites, not for the purpose of achieving a high level of tensile ductility but to improve the fire resistance performance of concrete exposed to high temperatures. This paper discusses the method for enhancing the performance of composites supplemented with PP fiber. Five types of mixture proportions were designed with high volume fly ash for testing the performance of composites. Type I cement and fly ash F were used as binding materials. The water-to-binder ratio was 0.23~0.25, and the amount of PP fiber used was 2 vol%. Polystyrene bead were also used to increase the tensile ductility of composites. A series of experiments including slump, density, compression and uniaxial tension tests were performed to evaluate the performance of cementitious composites supplemented with PP fiber. From the test results, it was exhibited that the performance of composites supplemented with PP fiber can be enhanced by adopting the mechanics and statistics theory.
