  • This study purpose was to explore whether career maturity and parents-children relationship related factors were differentiated by giftedness, gender and secondary school level (research question 1). In addition, this study focused on the effects of parents-children relationship related factors on career maturity with a comparison on gifted and regular students (research question 2). The sample included 213 gifted middle school and high school students who participated in the Korean gifted education center and 243 regular students. Multivariate analysis of variance was conducted for research question 1, and hierarchical regression analysis was conducted for research question 2. The results of this study showed that (1) gifted students showed a higher level of career maturity, achievement expectation (parents-children relationship), respect (parents-children relationship), discussion and leisure (activity with parents), sharing ordinary life and communication (activity with parents), career support of parents compared to regular students ; (2) Girls showed higher level only in sharing ordinary life and communication compared to boys ; (3) middle school students more highly perceived the parents' achievement expectation and control, respect for parents, activities with parents (discussion and leisure, sharing ordinary life and communication) compared to high school students ; (4) the career support of parents was the strongest predictor of career maturity, and discussion and leisure was also a significant factor predictor of career maturity. Based on these results, it was suggested for parents to support their children's career maturity of both gifted and regular students by increasing frequencies of various activities shared with their children such as discussion and leasure.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to identify the awareness and practice of reducing sugar in school meals and the status of nutrition education regarding sugar reduction. Methods: An online survey was conducted on 101 nutrition teachers (dietitians) working at elementary, middle, and high schools in Daegu. Results: School nutrition teachers in Daegu recognized the need for efforts to reduce the sugar intake in the Korean diet, and it was found that elementary nutrition teachers were more aware of the implementation of the sugar reduction policy at the national level than middle and high school nutrition teachers (P = 0.002). Among the policies to reduce sugar intake at the national level, there was a high need for the promotion of self-control and limiting the sales of food with high sugar content in schools and their vicinity. The degree of practice for reducing sugar in school meals was found to be higher in the preparation, purchase, and cooking stage compared to the serving stage (P < 0.05). There was a high need for changing the preferences of the subjects for a sweet taste as a means of reducing the sugar in school meals. Thirty-six percent of nutrition teachers conducted sugar reduction education, and sending out school newsletters was the highest type of nutrition education at 80.6%. Conclusions: To effectively promote reduced sugar intake in school meals, it is necessary to change the preference of the subjects for sweetness and to conduct continuous education that can improve the awareness of people for reducing their sugar intake. For this, it is necessary to set aside time for nutrition education and to prepare an institutional framework for providing this education.

For this purpose, we conducted a hierarchical regression analysis for 246 middle and high school boys in the K region. As a result, the relationship between eating problem and depression was controlled by parental sympathy. As a result of analyzing the moderating effects of sub- factors of parental sympathy, in the case of the father, awareness of emotion, cold emotional reaction, and excessive emotional reaction showed moderating effects. And in mothers, awareness of emotion, perspective taking, cold emotional reaction, and excessive emotional reaction moderated the relationship between eating problem and depression. It is significant that this study confirmed that the empathy of parents perceived by adolescents is a control variable to mitigate the adverse effects of depression on eating problems.

  • This study identified the relationship between adolescents' alienation and stress responses, and examined the mediating model of smart media addiction moderated by behavioral activation system (BAS) on alienation and stress responses. Participants were 361 male and female students in middle and high schools located at Seoul metropolitan area. PROCESS Macro 3.5 Model 7 was used for analysis of the moderating mediating effect. Results revealed that adolescents' alienation and BAS were positively correlated with smart media addiction and stress responses, while smart media addiction was positively correlated with stress responses. In a moderated mediating model for stress responses, there was significant interaction effect of alienation and BAS; conditionally indirect effect of alienation was not significant in groups with very low BAS. These findings suggest that adolescents who feel alienation are more likely to experience stress responses by overindulging themselves in using smart media. The moderating effect suggests that this effect is stronger with higher levels of BAS.
