An Exploratory Study on the Preparation for the High School Credit System of the Home Economics Education Community through the Analysis of Operation Case of High School Credit System Research School (고교학점제 연구학교 운영 사례 분석을 통한 가정과 교육공동체의 고교학점제 준비 방안에 대한 탐색적 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to explore ways to prepare for the high school credit system in the home economics educational community through the case of high school credit system research school operation. To this end, the operation process of H high school in Gangwon-do, which operated a high school credit system in 2019, was monitored for 5 months, and surveys and interviews were conducted with students, parents, and teachers to determine the operation of the curriculum. Suggestions based on the case of H high school's operation of the high school credit system for home economics educational community are as follows. Home economics teachers should make active efforts to provide attractive and meaningful home economics lessons to their students by improving instruction and assessment, and implementing a variety of elective courses within the subject of home economics, including collaborative online curricula. Home economics teacher communities and related associations should build a solid network that connects local home economics subject research groups, share information related to curriculum operation, and use it as a channel for disseminating class research results. Home economics teacher training institutions should innovate the curriculum to help prospective teachers develop the ability to guide multiple classes in line with the changing teacher training policy, and develop and provide high-quality online and offline programs for field teacher re-education.

Variables Associated with School-Related Adjustment of Technical High School Students (공업계 고등학교 학생들의 학교생활 적응과 관련 변인)

  • The purposes of this study were to measure the school-related adjustment level of technical high school students, and to determine the relationship between school-related adjustment and its related variables. The study was carried out through questionnaire survey method. The population sample for the study constituted 553 completed questionnaires from purposive sample of 600 first grade technical high school students. A survey questionnaire was developed by researcher, which consisted of 28 scales. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were employed for data analysis. Major findings of this study were as follows: First, school-related adjustment level of technical high school students was average. In sub-variables of school-related adjustment, 'compliance with the rule' was the highest, and 'relation to teacher' was the lowest. Second, five related variables were found to be a significant relationship with school-related adjustment level of technical high school students. They were 'orientation for freshman', 'student's department hope', 'teacher activity for student learning improvement', 'teacher support for student school life', 'parent's interest about school life'. Third, after multiple regression analysis, the proportion of the variance in school-related adjustment of technical high school students was about 42.2%. School-related adjustment of technical high school students was most explained by 'teacher activity for student learning improvement'.

A Study on the Operation of Technology. Home Economics Curriculum of Middle and High Schools in Kyungnam Area (기술ㆍ가정교과 운영실태와 평가 -경남지역 소재 중.고등학교를 중심으로 -)

  • This study aimed to evaluate the subject matters and goals, and to know the operation of Technology·Home Economics of middle and high schools in Kyungnam area. Data were collected from 235 teachers with the questionnaire by mail. The results were following; 1. The major of teachers was Technology·Industry 30.6%, Home Economics 67.2%. The teaching style was the team-teaching 51.1%, one's responsible teaching 41.3%. The team-teaching was operated more frequently in high schools than middle schools. The most difficulties were the shortage of subject's hours, the shortage of practice hours, etc. 2. The overall evaluation of subject's matters and goals were about middle levels. but the items of the job-course education and the interrelatedness of Technology and Home Economics were a little low levels. 3. The speciality and the utility of the subject's matters were evaluated highly oneself for one's major, but those of different major were lowly so. The sector of Computer was shared commonly with Technology and Home Economics' teachers. 4. The attitudes toward the separation or integration of Technology·Home Economics in the 8th curriculum revision were half and half. If Technology·Home Economics will be separated, each subject need 2 hours per week.

Development and Evaluation of Home Economics Maker Education Program for High School Students: Focusing on the Contents of 'Hanbok and Creative Clothing' (고등학교 가정과 메이커 교육 프로그램 개발과 평가: '한복과 창의적인 의생활' 내용 요소를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest valuable maker education programs by implementing and evaluating a Home Economics(HE) maker education program developed based on the content of "Hanbok and Creative Clothing" for high school students. The results of this study are as follows. First, the HE maker education model for high school students was designed and developed. The HE maker education model was developed by integrating and modifying the TMSI model of the maker education model and Laster's HE practical action teaching model. The HE maker education model consisted of 4 steps: tinkering(T: 4-hour class), practical reasoning(P: 3-hour class), making together(M: 4-hour class), and sharing and spreading(S: 1-hour class) with a total of 12-hour lesson plans. The theme of the developed HE maker program is 'Practice and spread of creative traditional culture of life (Hanbok)'. Second, the results of online survey of 240 high school students who participated in this maker class showed that HE maker class had positive effects in the order of experiential(4.26), cognitive(4.22), emotional(4.18), social(4.18), and practical(4.10). It is expected that the findings of this study will contribute to diversifying the curriculum of Home Economics, thereby improving the quality of Home Economics Education.

The Need for Healthy Families Education in Home Economics Subject of High School Students (고등학생의 가정과 교과에서 건강가정에 관한 교육 요구도)

  • The aim of this study was to examine the need for healthy families education in home economics subject. This study also purposed to find new education direction of healthy families education in home economics subjects helpful in leading healthy family life and provide basic data for organizing curriculum suitable to the purpose. The subject of this survey was targeted for 550 girl and boy juniors of high schools located in Seoul and the Capital area, and data were collected through questionnaire survey. The result of this survey is summarized as the following: First, Boy students need for healthy families education in home economics subject of high school students was 3.63, Girl students need for healthy families education in home economics subject of high school students was 3.66. Boy students needed was 'marriage and becoming parents', the highest need, followed by 'methods to talk with families', 'management of nutrition', 'household economy', 'management of clothes and residence', and 'home culture', Girl students needed was 'marriage and becoming parents', the highest need, followed by 'methods to talk with families', 'management of nutrition' 'home culture', 'household economy' and 'management of clothes and residence'. The need for healthy families education in home economics subject of high school students was 3.64, over the middle level. The area students needed was 'marriage and becoming parents', the highest need, followed by 'methods to talk with families', 'management of nutrition', 'household economy', 'management of clothes and residence' and 'home culture'. Second, the need for healthy families education in home economics subjects of high school students based on family background showed significant difference depending on department of school, family type, parents' academic background, parents' occupation and monthly household income.

A Study on Dietary Habits and Nutritional Knowledge of Specialized High School Students in Gyeonsangnam-do (경상남도 특성화고등학교 학생의 식습관 및 영양지식에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to survey students' current eating behavior and nutritional knowledge to provide researchers with basic data that can help students with positive, practical, and healthy eating habits. For this purpose, a self-administered questionnaire was distributed to students of a vocational high school located in Gyeongsangnam-do. A total of 270 questionnaires were collected from a convenience sample and the data were analyzed using SPSS Version 25.0. The results are as follows. First, 57.40% of students lived with "parents," and 55.56% of students' household monthly income levels were "Low." Second, as for the eating behavior of the subjects, the students who ate 'two meals' a day showed the highest at 64.81%, 'one meal' occupied 17.41%, and those who ate one meal a day, 'School cafeteria' was the eating place most frequently mentioned (65.96%). Third, when students were classified based on their nutritional knowledge levels, "High" group comprised 37.78%, "Moderate" group 37.41%, and "Low" group 24.81% of the total students. Regarding the experience of nutrition education, 64.44% answered 'no experience of nutrition education' in the last 12 months, and among the 35.56% of students who had received nutrition education, 72.92% received the education from school teachers. Based on these results, to prevent problems with the eating habits that can occur to vocational high school students, organic cooperation between families, schools, and local communities is required. Furthermore, full support from the government is needed. In addition, more efforts are needed for practice-oriented dietary education so that nutritional knowledge can be converted into correct eating behavior.

Lesson Design of Upper Secondary Home Economics education (고등학교에서의 가정과교육 -고등학교 가정과 단시수업 설계- (1990년도 제 2차 학술대회))

  • The aim of this study is to apply lesson design of high school home economics to model which consists of six steps of instructional procedure among various models for instructional design, Through thesis, central content of each step was written as follows; 1) At the step of establishment of terminal instructional objectives, educational objectives, terminal instructional objectives was analyzed and specific instructional objectives was extracted. 3) At the step of diagnosis of entering behavior, ability of prior learning and ability of preliminary learning were evaluated, which was used as establishing instructional strategy and doing individual guidance. 4)At the step of determining instructional strategy, instructional strategy should be extracted by considering instructional event which is adequate to content of instruction. Instructional strategy consists of five main factor, factors, those are, activity of introduction of instruction, presentation of content of instruction and information, participation of learner and learning activity, identification of learning result, and subsequent treatment after evaluation. 5)Specific activity at the step of selection and development of instructional media consists of reidentification of instructional objectives determination of learning type, drawing up instructional media analysis sheet, synthesis of selected media, and explanatory note of selected media. In order to increase efficiency of instruction at the step of determining instructional strategy, this step should be considered simultaneously. 6)The step of try-out and evaluation of instructional design should be efficient when designed instruction was inputted at class after evaluation of each step of instructional design.

An Analysis on Occupational Content in the Technology & Home Economics Textbooks of High School (고등학교 기술·가정 교과서의 직업 내용 분석)

  • This study analyzed content of and recognition on occupations shown from Technology Home Economics textbooks of the high school elective subject having a higher connection with the career development capability for the occupational world as shown from a curriculum analysis. Hence, this study selected 3 kinds of high school Technology Home Economics textbooks with a higher share from 6 in the 2007 revised curriculum and analyzed a frequency by characteristic of occupational content and recognition on description of a occupation. Content analyzed by researchers was examined by 2 school teachers to ensure the validity and objectivity of research findings. Research findings show that there is a great deal of frequency difference in occupations suggested by publisher and unit in the Technology Home Economics subject. Also suggestion frequency of the occupational classification by level from Korean standard industrial classification did not correspond to an actual situation of employment. Occupation names suggested from textbooks occupied 3.3% of those by Korean Occupation Dictionary, showing a higher suggestion ratio at occupations preferred by adolescents. In the textbooks, occupations were suggested from reading materials, photos and illustrations more than from texts. Recognition on descriptions of occupations showed for the most part the neutral(82.8%) and the positive16.2%)', and there was no biased intention even from some negative cases(1.0%). Based on research findings, this research has significance in that it suggested things to be considered for teaching career development capability in the high school Technology Home Economics subject and need for cultivating teachers' specialty to understand occupations and instruct career development. It also suggested improvements to be required for a new curriculum textbook.

Case Analyses of Cosmetology Education in Vocational High Schools (고등학교 미용과 교육 실태 사례 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the name of cosmetology department and to analyze the characteristics and curriculum of 4 selected cases. Interviews with 4 school the teachers have been done September through November, 2004. The number of cosmetology-teaching high schools, the characteristics of students, teachers and laboratories, and the curricula of the schools were analyzed. The results of this study were as follows; There were 16 vocational high schools had cosmetology department, called various names, mainly Dept. of Cosmetology or Dept. of Skin Cosmetology. All most of the students to major the Cosmetology were female and 16-74% continued education in colleges. Most of teachers had Cosmetology tearcher's certificate but 3 out of 22 teachers did not have. They thought 1-4 subjects for 17-18 hours for a week. Each school had 3-7 practical rooms. Students took 92-120 hours from major courses.

The relationship between social capital of adolescents in out-of-home care and their self-reliance: Focusing on the mediating effects of school adjustment (가정외보호청소년의 사회적자본이 학교적응을 매개로 자립의지에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of this study was to examine the mediating effects of school adjustment on the relationship between social capital and self-reliance of adolescents in out-of-home care(institutional care, foster care, and group homes). For this study, a total of 358 middle and high school students(13 to 19 years) were recruited among adolescents in care nationwide. Collected data were analyzed by using the structural equation modeling analysis. A bootstrapping method was utilized to examine the mediating effects. The results showed that social capital of the adolescents in out-of-home care was not directly related to self-reliance. However, complete mediation was found through school adjustment in the relationship between social capital and self-reliance. This indicates that social capital of the adolescents in care was significantly related to self-reliance only through school adjustment. Based on the results, policy and practice implications for increasing the levels of social capital, school adjustment, and self-reliance of adolescents in care were discussed.
