  • This study was conducted on teachers who currently are teaching 'Technology and Home Economics' in high school, and teaching it alone, as opposed to team teaching. The study examined the teachers' fields of major study relative to their teaching behaviors and levels of confidence and satisfaction while teaching this course. The study also compared teaching behaviors, confidence and satisfaction among teachers who either have or have not participated in training sessions specifically-targeting teachers who are lack of relevant knowledge and skills in a major field. Questionnaires were mailed to high school teachers who were solo-teaching 'Technology and Home Economics' at high schools in Gyeonggi Do. Data from 83 respondents were used for the final analysis. The findings were as follows: First, it was determined that teachers tend to be more active when teaching subjects in which they have majored than subjects in which they have not. Teachers who have majored in home economics were most active when teaching home economics, followed by technology major teachers teaching technology, home economics major teachers teaching technology and technology major teachers teaching home economics, the last group exhibiting the least willingness to teach. Similarly, all teachers exhibited less confidence in areas not relevant to their majors, and confidence especially was lower while teaching practical skills versus theories. Teachers also were found to be less satisfied with teaching subjects outside of their majors. Second, analyzing technology majors currently teaching home economics and comparing those who have and have not participated in training sessions for home economics teaching, we found that 1) technology majors with such training feel that the training experience helped them in preparing various teaching media and in their evaluation of students' understanding of basic concepts and practices; 2) these training programs increased teachers' confidence teaching theories, but not practical skills; and 3) after they had participated in training programs, teachers' satisfaction increased in terms of producing teaching agendas and selecting textbooks and teaching media for their classes. However, training programs were found to have no effect on home economics majors who had participated in technology training programs, in terms of teaching behaviors, confidence or satisfaction teaching technology.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a sustainable dietary education program using garden vegetables for middle school students. Textbook analysis and demand survey were conducted before developing the program. Ten textbooks of technology and home economics for middle and high school students were analyzed and the results showed that none of the textbooks covered food gardening. Two hundred and six middle school students participated in the demand survey and the results revealed that students lack an understanding of food gardening despite high interest. Therefore, six sessions of a sustainable dietary education program using garden vegetables were developed based on a six-step DESIGN procedure. Then, the content validity of the program was evaluated by three experts and the program was revised based on the results. This dietary education program will lead students to live a sustainable diet, eventually benefiting the health and wellness of individuals, communities and ecosystems.

  • In 2009 revision and 2015 revision mathematics national curriculum, 'proof' was moved to high school from middle school in consideration of the cognitive development level of students, and 'proof by contradiction' was stated in the "success criteria of learning contents" of the first year high school subject while it had been not officially introduced in $7^{th}$ and 2007 revision national curriculum. Proof by contradiction is known that it induces a cognitive conflict due to the unique nature of rather assuming the opposite of the statement for proving it. In this article, based on the logical, mathematical and historical analysis of Proof by contradiction, we looked about the introductions and the applications of the current textbooks which had been revised recently, and searched for improvement measures from the viewpoint of discovery, explanation, and consilience. We suggested introducing Proof by contradiction after describing the discovery process earlier, separately but organically describing parts necessary to assume the opposite and parts not necessary, disclosing the relationships with proof by contrapositive, and using the viewpoint of consilience.

  • Today’s teenagers were significantly deficient of calcium intakes, taking on the average only 55.4 percents of the recommended. Milk was the major source of calcium intakes, and therefore the school milk program need to be readdressed to remedy this problem. However, school milk program(SMP) was said to be simply the substitute for milk at home, so that no more than a minimal effect on total milk consumption be warranted. This Study aimed to find out whether or not the school milk program was an effective measure to increase teenager’s milk consumption and explored the relation between school milk and total milk consumption for 1,079 junior and senior high school students who were surveyed by questionnaire from 15th June to 15th July in 2006. A Tobit model was used for the statistical analysis. In this model, we first regressed milk consumption on 5 variables i.e. degree of satisfaction, participation in SMP, sex, school, region. But the variable region was not significant statistically. Then we regressed on 4 variables except for region. The results showed 4 variables were all significant and the marginal effect of variable ‘participation in SMP’ was 1.3. Especially, the marginal effect 1.3 means that the students participating in the school milk program consumed 1.3cups more than the non-participants, which indicated the effectiveness of school milk program to improve the calcium deficiency program of teenagers.

It also strives to get various information needed in order to improve educational environments and teaching methods. The targets of this survey were 225 teachers who teach home economics at middle and high schools in Taejeon, Choongchungnamdo and Junrabookdo. I made up questions their awareness about the instructional media on clothing and textiles education, the educational circumstances of their schools having to do with new media, and their real educational goal. Methods such 3s frequency, percentage, and Chi-square(${\chi}^2$)(statistical significance of differences between variables) were used to research the differences of awareness on using instructional media, according to teachers'various characters, were checked using the SPSS WIN computer program. The results of this research were as fellows; 1. They thought content on the management and the materials of clothing were the ones that need to be developed, compared to other content having to do with the curriculum on clothing and textile education. 2. The real things tuned out to be the molt useful and effective. So the most frequently used media was the Over Head Projector. Also, the teachers expressed in general that they wished to increase the use of computers in order to teach more efficiently. 3. We knew the teachers had little knowledge on the software developed for clothing and textiles education. The infrastructures for educating the using of clothing and textiles, using computers and the internet, were very poor in most schools. The new curriculum that has been proposed needs a more enlarged investment in order for it to function properly and effectively.

  • Using the 3rd to the 6th wave data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS), we examined the effects of academic characteristics and social relations on the trajectories of the life satisfaction among adolescents. OLS results showed that male students were more satisfied with their lives than female students in the 3rd grade of middle school. As academic characteristics, academic achievement and the level of class adjustment improved life satisfaction but the amount of learning time spent had a negative effect on life satisfaction. However, the effect of academic achievement lost its statistical significance after including variables of social relations. Relationships with parents, teachers, and friends had positive effects on life satisfaction. The longitudinal analysis using the fixed effect estimation also showed a similar result of the associations among the variables to that in the OLS analysis. The life satisfaction gap between male and female students narrowed over time from the 3rd grade of middle school to the 2nd grade of high school. The effects of relationships with parents and friends showed significant effects on both female and male students, but the relationship with their teachers was significant only for female students. Based on the results, we discussed the issues of Korean education related to the life satisfaction among adolescents.
