Because of their unique properties, supercritical fluids have been known as one of the most promising materials for the future technology. Supercritical fluid technologies have been widely applied to various operations such as extraction, impregnation, nano-particle generation, oxidation, reaction etc. Industrial applications, especially their successful usage of supercritical fluid, have been reviewed. A special case for the first successful industrial application of supercritical $CO_2$ extraction in Korea was reviewed. Its unique characteristics of enriched antioxidant, $'\grmma-tocopherol'$ enabled this industrial application in Korea in spite of its low market price. Also its size and operation conditions were known as world records.

This paper considers the intermediate warehouse location problem in a two stage distribution system where commodities are delivered from the given set of capacitated factories to customers via uncapacitated intermediate warehouses. In order to determine the subset of warehouses to open which minimizes the total distribution costs including the fixed costs associated with opening warehouses, the cross decomposition method for mixed integer programming recently developed by T.J. Van Roy is used. The cross decomposition unifies Benders decomposition and Lagrangean relaxation into a single framework that involves successive solutions to a primal subproblem and a dual subproblem. In our problem model, primal subproblem turns out to be a transshipment problem and dual subproblem turns out to be an intermediate warehouse location problem with uncapacitated factories.
Supercritical fluid technology was applied to the regeneration of industrial catalyst contaminated with toxic materials. The regeneration process of activated loaded with phenol was proposed, then the adsorphon tower was packed with the activated carbon-bed. Phenol diffuses into supercritical carbon dioxide(SCC) through the micro-pore and voldge of the activated carbon. The saturated solubility of phenol in SCC depended on the density of SCC varing with temperature and pressure conditions. Therefore, the fasile phase equilibrium calculation model of dxpanded liquid One was proposed, and equilibrium solubility of phenol in SCC was calculated using the model theoretically. The regeneration mechanism of activated carbon was analysed by degree of saturation of phenol and diffusion in SCC. The solubility prediction was more satisfactory for the wide range of SCC density than the dense gas model and the desorption of phenol depended on the degree of saturation of phenol in SCC.
Brake theory of viscosity, which can sucessfully calculate the viscosity of real gases, dense gases and liquids, is extended to the binary gas mixture. Adjustable parameters are not involved, but the calculated results are good agreements with the experimental values at high pressure as well as low pressure. Corresponding state equation for viscosity can be obtained by using the Redlich-Kwong equation, so that we hope this equation may be useful for the supercritical fluid in engineering applications at high pressure around the critcal point.
The lattice-fluid theory are adopted for modeling the phese equilibria in supercritical fluids, In order to investigate effects of the nonrandom distribution of holes in mixtures on the phase equilibria, the equation of state and the chemical potential of the binary miture are formulated with taking into account nonrandomness of holes distributions in the fluid mixture. The relations of phase equilibria formulated in this work are tested through predictions of solubility of heavy solids in supercritical fluids and predictions of high pressure phase equilibria of binary mixtures. Results obtained exhibit that the lattice fluid model with assumptions of nonrandomness of hole distributions is successful in quantatively mideling the phase equilibria of mixtures of molecules of dissimilar sizes, specifically solids-supercritical fluid mixtures.
The extraction and separation of isoflavones from Korean soybean were peformed by various mechanical and chemical extraction methods. They included solvent extraction, stirring, supersonification and sub/supercritical water extraction. From the experimental results of the variation of solvent extraction by change in composition, the increase in extraction of a specific compound by stirring or supersonic energy, and the application of supercritical fluid with superior solvating power over solvents, the sonification was the most desirable extraction method in extracting aglycone isoflavones, daidzein and genistein from Korean soybean.
Dielectric property of Ba-modified 0.65Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.35PbTiO3 ceramics having compositions near the morphotropic phase boundary was investigated. For the specimens having Ba contents between 0 and 20 at%, the average transition temperature was decreased linearly with increasing Ba contents and the degree of hysteresis was also decreased with increasing Ba contents. The maximum dielectric constants (K), electric field induced polarization(P) and electrically-induced strain(S) were found to exihibit a maximum value at∼3 at% of Ba. The increase of S and the decrease of hysteresis by minor additions of Ba impurities indicated the development of new higher perfomance actuator materials. The composition of Ba-PMN-PT (10/65/35) may be appropriate for capacitor materials because of low hysteresis and high polarization.
Electrically-induced strain(S) and polarization(P) for Pb(Sc1/2Nb1/2)O3-PbTiO3(1-x)PSN-xPT) crystalline solutions were studied. From the compositional dependence of S and P we could observe two maximum values at x=0.10 and x=0.425. It is considered that PSNT10(x=0.10) composition is the structural phase boundary to indicate the variable order-disorder[VOD] region. PSNT(x=0.425) composition is the morphotropic phase boundary[MPB] to indicate the rhombohedral to tetragonal phase transition. Higher S (0.437%) and P (0.3974$\mu$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$) values were attained by the La substitution (5 wt%) at Pb site in the MPB composition of 57.5PSN-42.5PT.
In order to compare the extraction patterns of main components from the raw material between the extraction methods, the aerial parts (dried stem, leaves, and flowers) of Agastache rugosa were extracted by SDE simultaneous steam distillation & extraction) and SFE (supercritical fluid extraction). Volatile components of essential oil and extract were identified by GC and GC-MSD. The contents of essential oil extracted by SDE were 0.49% in aerial part of Agastache rugosa on dry basis. Major components were methyl chavicol(27.2%), isomenthone(24.6%), hexadecanoic acid(13.0%). menthone (5.5%) among 32 kinds of components confirmed in essential oil. On the other hand, the contents of SFE extracts revealed 3.21% on dry basis, 6 times higher than those of SDE. Major components were isomenthone(15.3%), hexadecanoic acid(13.7%), methyl chavicol(12.6%), benzoic acid(3.8%) among 33 kinds of components identified in extract.

The purpose of this study was to analyse the volatile components of Thymus magnus Nakai extracted by different extraction methods and reproduce scent close to original plant based on the results. For this purpose, the essential oil of T. magnus was extracted by supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), water and steam distillation (WSD) and simultaneous steam distillation and extraction (SDE) methods. The compositions of the essential oil were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Consequently, linalool (0.1%) and trans-sabinene hydrate (0.9%) contents in the essential oil extracted by SFE method of $40^{\circ}C$ - 400 bar condition were relatively higher than compositions of the essential oil extracted by different conditions. The contents of borneol (3.82%), terpinen-4-ol (0.3%) and caryophyllene oxide (2.2%) were relatively higher at $50^{\circ}C$ - 400 bar and the contents of ${\beta}$-bisabolene (5.88%), 1-octen-3-ol (0.31%), caryophyllene (2.91%), p-cymene (2.04%) and ${\gamma}$-terpinene (0.52%) were extracted relatively higher at $50^{\circ}C$ - 300 bar. The compositions of the essential oil extracted by SFE method of $50^{\circ}C$ - 200 bar condition contained relatively higher contents of thymol (77.63%) and carvacrol (5.65%). The contents of ${\alpha}$-bisabolol (0.17%), caryophyllene (6.46%), cis-${\alpha}$-bisabolene (1.52%) and ${\beta}$-bisabolene (20.65%) in the essential oil extracted by WSD method were relatively higher than compositions of the essential oil extracted by SFE method, and by SDE method we couldn't obtained essential oil. The results of this study could be utilized to reproduce scent close to original scent of T. magnus.
