Wireless mesh networks can be deployed for various networks from home networking to last-mile broadband Internet access. Wireless mesh networks are composed of mesh routers and mesh clients. In these networks, static nodes form a multi-hop backbone of a large wireless access network that provides connectivity to end-users' mobile terminals. The network nodes cooperate with each other to relay data traffic to its destinations. In order to increase connectivity and better performance, researchers are getting interested in multi-channel and multi-interface wireless mesh networks. In these networks, non-overlapping multiple frequency channels are used simultaneously to increase the aggregate bandwidth available to end-users. Recently, researches have focused on finding suitable channel assignments for wireless network interfaces, equiped in a mesh node, together with efficient routing to improve overall system throughput in wireless mesh networks. This goal can be achieved by minimize channel interference. Less interference among using channels in a network guarantees more aggregated channel capacity and better connectivity of the networks. In this thesis, we propose interference aware channel assignment and routing algorithms for multi-channel multi-hop wireless mesh networks. We propose Channel Assignment and Routing algorithms using Traffic Profiles(CARTP) and Routing algorithms allowing detour routing(CARTP+2). Finally, we evaluate the performance of proposed algorithms in comparison to results from previous methods using ns-2 simulations. The simulation results show that our proposed algorithms can enhance the overall network performance in wireless mesh networks.
Current state-of-the-art of VMS control is based upon simple knowledge-based inference engine with message set and each message's priority. And R&Ds of the VMS control are focused on the accurate detection and estimation of traffic condition of the subject roadways. However VMS display itself cannot achieve a desirable traffic allocation among alternative routes in the network In this context, VMS display strategy is the most crucial part in the VMS control. VMS itself has several limitations in its nature. It is generally known that VMS causes overreaction and concentration problems, which may be more serious in urban network than highway network because diversion should be more easily made in urban network. A feedback control algorithm is proposed in this paper to address the above-mentioned issues. It is generally true that feedback control approach requires low computational effort and is less sensitive to models inaccuracy and disturbance uncertainties. Major features of the proposed algorithm are as follows: Firstly, a regulator is designed to attain system optimal traffic allocation among alternative routes for each VMS in the network. Secondly, strategic messages should be prepared to realize the desirable traffic allocation, that is, output of the above regulator. VMS display strategy module is designed in this context. To evaluate Probable control benefit and to detect logical errors of the Proposed feedback algorithm, a offline simulation test is performed using real network in Daejon, Korea.
Monodehydroascorbate reductase (MDHAR) is an important enzyme that plays a role in the detoxification of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by maintaining reduced pool of ascorbate through recycling the oxidized form of ascorbate. In this study, we isolated a PagMDHAR1 gene from Populus alba ${\times}$ P. glandulosa, and investigated its expression characteristics. The PagMDHAR1 cDNA encodes a putative 434 amino acids containing FAD- and NAD(P)H-binding domains. Southern blot analysis indicated that a single nuclear gene encodes this enzyme. Northern hybridization analysis revealed that PagMDHAR1 is highly expressed in both suspension cells and flower tissues, while its expression levels were enhanced by drought, salt, cold, wounding and ABA. Therefore, PagMDHAR1 might be expressed in response to abiotic stress through the ABA-mediated signaling pathway in this poplar species, suggesting that the PagMDHAR1 plays an important role in the defense mechanisms against oxidative stress.

Several kinds of low voltage cables have been used in nuclear power plants for the supply of electric power, supervision, and the propagation of control signals. These low voltage tables must be inspected for safe and stable operation of nuclear power plants. In particular, the degradation diagnosis to estimate the integrity of low voltage rabies has recently been emphasized according to the long use of nuclear power plants. In order to evaluate their degradation, the surrounding temperature, hardness of insulation material, elongation at breaking point (EAB), etc. have been used. However, the measurement of temperature or hardness is not useful because of the absence of quantitative criteria; the inspection of a sample requires turning off of the power plant power; and, the electrical inspection method is not sufficiently sensitive from the initial through the middle stage of degradation. In this research, based on the theory that the ultrasonic velocity changes with relation to the degradation of the material, we measured the ultrasonic velocity as low voltage cables were degraded. To this end, an ultrasonic degradation diagnosis device was developed and used to measure the ultrasonic velocity with the clothing on the cable, and it was confirmed that the ultrasonic velocity changes according to the degradation of low voltage cables. The low voltage cables used in nuclear power plants were degraded at an accelerated rate, and EAB was measured in a tensile test conducted after the measurement of ultrasonic velocity. With the increasing degradation degree, the ultrasonic velocity decreased, whose potential as a useful parameter for the quantitative degradation evaluation was thus confirmed.
With recent advances in sensor technology, CMOS-based semiconductor devices and networking protocol, the areas for application of wireless sensor networks greatly expanded and diversified. Such diversification of uses for wireless sensor networks creates a multitude of beneficial possibilities for several industries. In the application of wireless sensor networks for monitoring systems' data transmission process from the sensor node to the sink node, transmission through multi-hop paths have been used. Also mobile sink techniques have been applied. However, high energy costs, unbalanced energy consumption of nodes and time gaps between the measured data values and the actual value have created a need for advancement. Therefore, this thesis proposes a new model which alleviates these problems. To reduce the communication costs due to frequent data exchange, a State Prediction Model has been developed to predict the situation of the peripheral node using a geographic autocorrelation of sensor nodes constituting the wireless sensor networks. Also, a Risk Analysis Model has developed to quickly alert the monitoring system of any fatal abnormalities when they occur. Simulation results have shown, in the case of applying the State Prediction Model, errors were smaller than otherwise. When the Risk Analysis Model is applied, the data transfer latency was reduced. The results of this study are expected to be utilized in any efficient communication method for wireless sensor network monitoring systems where all nodes are able to identify their geographic location.
Recently, there are many attempts to reproduce real world fine art pieces in digital forms. The digital representations are convenient to store and/or transmit. In contrast, mobiles, or moving sculptures, such as those designed by Alexander Calder cannot to reproduced realistically by usual reproduction techniques. Since mobiles are originally designed to generate motions in response to external forces applied to it, people could not fully enjoy them through photographs or static images. We present a virtual mobile system where use can easily control the mobile and can feel the impressions that the artist originally intended to provide. A real-world mobile is reconstructed in a three-dimensional physically-based model. and then virtual wind is generated to give motions to it. The motions of the mobile are generated by constraint dynamics and impulse dynamics techniques, which are modified to fully utilize the characteristics of the mobile, and finally give interactive displays on the PC platforms. The techniques presented can easily be extended to simulate other interactive dynamics systems.

This study is about a section where underground water level occurs at the underground 5m depth by the excavation of the ground, as a stream is adjacent to a excavation section of High Speed Railway ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ Station construction sections and a reservoir being always full of water is located at the left side of the construction section. Therefore this test is executed for the design and construction of buoyance anchors able to permanently prevent buoyance by the underground water level at working and for the stable construction and permanent smooth maintenance of structures. In this test, bar type anchors are divided according to their length and standard to execute test-anchor test, and In spot test, 9 test-anchors test, proof test to construction process, suitability test and acceptance test are executed 4 times to 9 test-anchors by dividing anchors according to the length of permanent anchor, the outer diameter of bar and boring diameter. Standard motion characteristic centering on load transmission and break mechanism of bar-type anchors for the prevention of buoyance will be showed in the thesis.

To research the effects of marigold extract, which is used mixed with calendula extract, on collagen growth and MMP-1 expression in human fibroblast, we measured cytotoxicity, collagen growth and MMP-1 expression by using HDF cells. The result of measurement showed over 80% cell survival rate in $5{\sim}100{\mu}g/mL$ concentration of marigold extract and calendula extract for HDF cells, which indicates there is no cytotoxicity. The result of measuring collagen synthetic abilities showed both types of extract had collagen synthetic ability increase dose dependently, by 25% in $100{\mu}g/mL$ concentration of marigold extract, and by 7% in $100{\mu}g/mL$ concentration of calendula extract. The result of experimenting the effect on MMP-1 expression showed that both types of extract suppress MMP-1 expression. The result of observing phosphorylation of p-JNK and p-ERK, which are known to be involved with MMP-1 expression, revealed that marigold extract effectively suppresses MMP-1 expression through signaling pathway of p-JNK and p-ERK. The above results confirm the wrinkle improvement effect of marigold extract, and furthermore, it can be used as a cosmetic ingredient for anti-aging.
The satellite visible data have been successfully applied to study the ocean color. Another ocean color sensor, the Ocean Scanning Multi-spectral Imager (OSMI) on the Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite (KOMPSAT) will be launched in 1999. In order to understand the characteristics of future OSMI images, we have first discussed the simulation models and procedures in detail, and produced typical patterns of radiances at visible bands by using radiative transfer models. The various simulated images of full satellite passes and Korean local areas for different seasons, water types, and the satellite crossing equator time (CET) are presented to illustrate the distribution of each component of radiance (i.e., aerosol scattering, Rayleigh scattering, sun glitter, water-leaving radiance, and total radiance). A method to evaluate the image quality and availability is then developed by using the characteristics of image defined as the Complex Signal Noise Ratio (CSNR). Meanwhile, a series of CSNR images are generated from the simulated radiance components for different cases, which can be used to evaluate the quality and availability of OSMI images before the KOMPSAT will be placed in orbit. Finally, the quality and availability of OSMI images are quantitatively analyzed by the simulated CSNR image. It is hoped that the results would be useful to all scientists who are in charge of OSMI mission and to those who plan to use the data from OSMI.

Skin basement membrane (BM) is a specialized structure that binds dermis and epidermis of the skin and plays an important role in maintaining skin structure. Structural change and destruction of BM is reported to appear due to UV exposure and aging, which may contribute to skin aging including wrinkle formation and a decrease in elasticity of the skin. One of the key components of the BM is laminin-332 (LN-332), and is a major contributor to epidermal-dermal attachment. In this study, we elucidated the effects of Meladrium firmum hexane fraction (MFHF) on LN-332 expression in HaCaT, a human keratinocyte cell line. Quantitative real-time PCR (RT-PCR) and immunoblot analysis revealed that MFHF induced upregulation of LN-332 gene and protein expression. Next, cells were treated with p38 MAPK inhibitor (SB202190) prior to MFHF treatment to analyze the signaling pathway contributing to LN-332 expression. The mRNA and protein levels of LN-332 expression were suppressed completely by pretreatment with p38 MAPK inhibitor. Furthermore, MFHF also increased the mRNA level of collagen type VII and integrin ${\alpha}6$ of skin BM component. These results collectively suggest that MFHF may have potential as an effective agent to stimulate the synthesis of BM components, and could be used to improve phenomenon of skin aging ascribed to the structural and functional impairments of BM in aged human skin.
