  • This study aims to examine the differences in the longitudinal relationship between academic stress, mathematics self-efficacy, and engagement in mathematics class according to the math achievement level. According to the results, academic stress, math self-efficacy, and math class engagement were stable over time for the high and low groups. Also, In the high group, math self-efficacy had a negative longitudinal mediation effect in the influence of academic stress to math class engagement. Whereas, in the low group math class engagement had a positive longitudinal mediation effect in the influence of academic stress to math self-efficacy. This means that the academic stress affects differently according to the math achievement level, and mathematics teachers should reflect these results in their teaching/learning strategies so that students can increase their mathematics self-efficacy along with their engagement in mathematics classes.

  • This study investigates longitudinal patterns in middle school students' mathematics interest and achievement using panel data from the 4th to 6th year of the Gyeonggi Education Panel Study. Results from the multivariate growth mixture model confirmed the existence of heterogeneous characteristics in the longitudinal trajectory of students' mathematics interest and achievement. Students were classified into four latent classes: a low-level class with weak interest and achievement, a high-level class with strong interest and achievement, a middlelevel-increasing class where interest and achievement rise with grade, and a middle-level-decreasing class where interest and achievement decline with grade. Each class exhibited distinct patterns in the change of interest and achievement. Moreover, an examination of the correlation between intercepts and slopes in the multivariate growth mixture model reveals a positive association between interest and achievement with respect to their initial values and growth rates. We further explore predictive variables influencing latent class assignment. The results indicated that students' educational ambition and time spent on private education positively affect mathematics interest and achievement, and the influence of prior learning varies based on its intensity. The perceived instruction method significantly impacts latent class assignment: teacher-centered instruction increases the likelihood of belonging to higher-level classes, while learner-centered instruction increases the likelihood of belonging to lower-level classes. This study has significant implications as it presents a new method for analyzing the longitudinal patterns of students' characteristics in mathematics education through the application of the multivariate growth mixture model.

  • This study explored the heterogeneous latent group on the influence of the learner's perceived math teaching method(instructor-centered, learner-centered) on math self-efficacy. In order to profile the characteristics of the detected latent group, the distribution of variables was confirmed, and multi-group analysis was conducted by SEM. According to the analysis results, two latent groups were detected, and the instructor-type group and the learner-type group were named. As a result of post-hoc analysis, the perception of instructor-centered classes and learner-centered classes, and the perception of math teaching ability were similar between the instructor-type and the learner-type group. But the instructor-type group had higher math self-efficacy, math interest, and math class engagement than the learner-type group. Also, in the instructor-type group, the effect of perception of math teaching ability on math self-efficacy and math class engagement was greater than that of the learner-type group. Whereas, in the learner-type group, the effect of math interest on math self-efficacy and math class engagement was greater than that of the instructor-type group. This study presented a new research method on the influence of math teaching methods on learners by applying the REBUS-PLS method.

  • This study purposed to analyze how teacher experience of instructional change (EIC), teacher morale (TM), and school climate (SC) mediate or moderate the relationship between teacher efforts on instructional improvement (EII) and teacher efficacy (TE). For the purpose, the 6th year data of Gyeonggi Education Panel Study (GEPS) which was administered in 2017 for the 9th grade students and their teachers from 197 middle schools in Gyeonggi Province was used. As results, the mediation effects of EIC on the link between EII and TE was found only under the innovative climate. The moderation effects of TM on the connection between EIC and TE were appeared in both of the permissive and the innovative climate. Finally, the moderated mediation effects of the TM in the innovative climate were bigger rather than in the permissive climate.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how various dimensions of social exclusion experienced by married immigrant women are affected longitudinally. Autoregressive cross-lagged analysis between sub-dimensions of social exclusion of married immigrant women was conducted to investigate the direction of interrelationships. The data were collected each year through a three-wave longitudinal survey from 2011 to 2013. The results showed that statically significant autoregressive effects appeared among economic exclusion, community exclusion, educational exclusion, and ethnic exclusion. The cross-lagged effects of the sub-dimensions of social exclusion showed that married immigrant women with higher levels of the economic exclusion tend to experience higher levels of the educational exclusion, and ethnic exclusion at the later measurement point, even when controlling for their previous level of social exclusion. It was found that economic exclusion as a more fundamental precedent factor positively predicted other dimensions of social exclusion. The results suggested that financial support and job-related services should be strengthened for active social inclusion of married immigrant women, and early intervention to prevent chronicization of social exclusion should be needed.

  • Using the 1st to 5th wave data from Gyeonggi Education Panel Study(GEPS), this study analyzed the change of school effectiveness of middle schools by innovation school expansion in Gyeonggi province. For this purpose, the analysis employed difference-in-difference model with repeated cross-sectional data and the dependent variable was comprised of academic achievement, school satisfaction, creativity, and sense of community. Results showed that the effectiveness of innovation schools had not significantly different from general schools before innovation school expansion but significantly improved in academic achievement and school satisfaction compared to general schools after the policy applied. On the other hand, the school effectiveness in creativity and sense of community not significantly different between innovation and general schools in both before and after. As time passes, the effectiveness of existing innovation schools in the academic achievement was improved and the school satisfaction was maintained. In addition, the effectiveness in satisfaction of the schools was improved as general schools with high effectiveness in academic achievement were transformed into innovation schools. Based on the results, the policy for innovation school expansion was evaluated and the issues related to this policy were discussed.

  • The objective of this paper is to identify the present-day surficial sediment distribution patterns of the tidal river, Gongneungcheon, through the grain size and statistical analysis. Four major findings of this study are as follows; First, the composition of sediments over the study area are mainly silt in texture. Second, the surficial sediment distribution reveals that grain size becomes coarser as they approach seawards not only in summer but also in winter. It can be concluded that tidal flows play a significant role, especially in winter, in the distribution of surficial sediments in Gongneungcheon. However, samples obtained in summer were relatively small in mean size and showed better sorting compared to those obtained in winter. Third, the mean sizes of the samples on the transects decrease as the distance from the channel increases. Finally, the artificial structure such as a floodgate affects the distribution of the sediments.

  • This study aims to demonstrate the longitudinal structural relationship between learner-centered instruction, learning motivation, growth beliefs, and academic stress. In particular, this study was carried out to focus on the structural effect of the related variables using data from the 3rd to 5th year of the Gyeonggi Education Panel Study. Results showed that while learner-centered instruction positively predicted both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of learners, it predicted the former better. In addition, learner-centered instruction influenced academic stress through motivation, both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation were found to increase stress. Further, growth beliefs mediated motivation with learner-centered instruction; specifically, learner-centered instruction influenced learners' positive beliefs about growth, and learners who had growth beliefs had intrinsic motivation. At the same time, external motivation tended to be lower for learners who believed in the possibility of growth. Finally, the perceptions of learner-centered instruction affected academic stress through changes in growth beliefs. However, the other 3 factors (learner-centered instruction, learning motivation, and academic stress) were not statistically significant. In conclusion, learner-centered instruction was able to mitigate academic stress, demonstrating that this relationship is influenced by changes in growth beliefs rather than learning motivation, as previously studied. These results suggest that learners' perceptions and beliefs contribute to not only intrinsic motivation but also academic stress. Furthermore, it is suggested that learners need to change their learning environments in positive ways.

  • This study aims to examine the effects of learner-centered mathematical instruction perceived by middle school students such as discussion learning, self-directed learning, and cooperative learning on their math self-efficacy and engagement in mathematics class. Moreover, it attempts to verify if there are differences in the mean of latent variables and effect among groups divided based on achievement level. Research results are as follows. First, discussion learning did not have a direct effect on students' engagement in mathematics class, but still created an indirect effect on it through math self-efficacy. Self-directed learning and cooperative learning created a direct effect on engagement in mathematics class as well as an indirect effect through self-efficacy on mathematics. Second, high-achievement group had a higher perception of discussion learning, self-directed learning, and cooperative learning than a low-achievement group, and showed a higher level of math self-efficacy and engagement in mathematics class. Third, there were significant differences among groups, in the effect of discussion learning on self-efficacy in mathematics, effect of self-directed learning on self-efficacy in mathematics, and effect of math self-efficacy on engagement in mathematics class. Thus, this study offers meaningful implications for the role of math teachers as assistants in learning for learner-centered math classes.

  • This study investigated the effectiveness of home economics class on self-esteem and stress of middle school students. Data were collected from self-reported inventory of the middle school students in Y city of Gyeonggi province and 165 data copies were used for analyses. Data were analyzed for frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, t-test, corelation and dependent t-test using SPSS/PC 18.0 program. The results were as follows. First, the average of positive self-esteem was 2.74 and that of negative self-esteem was 1.90 on a 4 Likert scale. The range of stress level was 1.88~2.48 on a 5 Likert scale. Life satisfaction was 3.90 and helpfulness of home economics class was 3.89 on a 5 point Likert scale, which means moderately high. Second, examining differences in variables according to gender, there were statistically significant differences in stress regarding family for both pre- and post-tests. Third, helpfulness of home economics class had positive correlation with positive self-esteem and life satisfaction and had negative correlation with negative self-esteem and stress, which means that home economics class enhance life satisfaction and positive self-esteem and lessen negative self-esteem and stress of middle students. Fourth, as a result of comparison of pre and post-tests, positive self-esteem, life satisfaction, and helpfulness of home economics class increased statistically after home economics classes, while stress regarding school life decreased statistically. Even though students' growth and changes resulting from learning other subjects were not controlled, it was meaningful that effectiveness of home economics class were examined and helpful information for enhancing perception of home economics education were provided.
