  • A motion-based sports game uses a motion sensor or a camera to exercise based on body movements, and it is possible to obtain exercise effects such as improving physical strength while enjoying the game. In prior works, various studies such as usability evaluation has been conducted on motion-based sports games. However, there has been no discussion about how the exercise effect is exerted on users when experiencing motion-based sports games as individual or team play. This study compared the user's exercise effects by analyzing the user's ECG (Electrocardiogram) sensor and the Kinect sensor's skeletal information using Nintendo Switch game that is played individually and as a team. In this paper, the experimental design and method, the quantitative measurement results based on ECG and Kinect, and the results of the post-test subjective measurement are discussed.

  • This empirical study is to investigate the influence of MMORPG player's social as well as individual characteristics on the emergent party play. First, we have tested our research model by surveying 231 active players of Lineage 2. The results demonstrate that both the personal values, such as self-efficacy and job satisfaction, and also the organizational values, such as task interdependence and trust, have significant influences on the organizational citizenship behaviors among the party players. This study suggests both theoretical and practical implications on how to encourage gamers' altruistic concern and organizational adaptation in MMORPG.

  • This study has made an in-depth analysis of the 'Puzzle System' which is a characteristic structural unit of the Adventure Game, and concentrates on the mechanism where the experience arouses in the player a 'desire (quasi-need) to finish' that leads to one's immersion and engagement in the game. In the course of conducting this study, documentary records were consulted and also this writer personally played video games to learn the component elements and fundamental characteristics of the Adventure Games and to experience how the player was immersed in the game. Thus, the Puzzle System in the Adventure Game was defined and an analysis was made of the structure and course of play where the puzzle part and the narrative part within the system organically interacted between them in the system. In order to confirm the formation and effects of 'desire to finish' shown in the hypothetic assumptions, two experiment-purpose game units were produced, one with dramatic cut scenes and the other without them, so that differences between them could be found. I also conducted an experiment to learn the generation and effect of the 'desire to finish' of the Puzzle elements by using different games with a varying degree of difficulty.

Heterogeneity is a concept of multi-player mode that a game uses the immersive VR and non-immersive system at the same time. As immersive VR device has become more commercial, multi-player VR games try to use heterogeneity strategically. is the best example to explain a new phenomenon, so this paper analyses by using a revised and reinforced MDA framework. As a result, we can find heterogeneity concept not only in the separation of player's interface, but also in the division of play patterns and experiences within a game itself.

For this, the behavior of SNG players is classified into SC (Social Connectedness) and NC (Non-Social Connectedness) by space where they play games and the relations between behavior of each SNG player and their playfulness are confirmed by empirical experiment based on big-five personality traits possible standards of disposition expected from players. The results are presented that the playfulness for behavior of SNG players has distinct features by personality types and there is a significant difference between personality types for SC behavior. It could be useful for determining the proportion of playing behavior for Social Connect, generally known as one of main sources SNG provides when designing SNG play and considering personality types of players.

  • In SNG, actual users enter virtual space with their real identity. They can enter the game space easily and rapidly from the real space and can get out of it easily. For such free crossing between the virtual and the real, every character, space image and game play has symbolic reality. While paying attention to the game play process of SNG such symbolic reality is constructed into the virtual world in the game, this study intends to identify that it follows an order of simulacre by Baudrillard. As the result of analysis, it shows that SNG promotes easy entering the game space while reflecting the reality to the most in the opening part of game play. And, gradually concealing reality, it reaches a pure simulacre step while covering up and distorting absence of the reality. If we compare it with the direct entering the pure similacre step in the existing Online games like MMORPG, we can know that such a game play process according to the similacre order may be the distinct game characteristic of SNG.
