  • The various type of polymer such as silicone, modified silicone, polyurethane, etc are being used in domestic construction sealant market. Once sealant is installed in building, it should maintain their specific performances such as preventing moisture, rain, air, etc against environment conditions for several decades. In this study, weather resistance as per polymer type of sealant has been evaluated using QUV accelerated weathering tester. As a result, weather resistance of silicone is highest and modified silicone is lowest in the comparison of other type of polymer.

  • In Korea, silicone type sealant is widely used for construction site. Before the silicone type, urethane type is one of the main type sealants. However, the weathering property is less than the silicone type, the urethane type is replace by the silicone one. Still the urethane type is used for the inside of the buildings for the perimeter of the window. The silicone type sealants are better in weathering property than those of the urethane type sealants. Except the weathering property urethane type sealant has its own advantage like movement property, low cost and so forth. There are many research results for the outdoor weathering of the sealants, but in Korea there are no results for the outdoor weathering for construction sealants. This research is focused on the outdoor weathering of the urethane sealants, how to measure the degradation, and compare the products which used in Korea. The outdoor weathering test is usually time consuming, thus we designed specialized device for accelerating the result.

  • Using sealant for window installation is sealing the gap between the window frame and outer wall (such as concrete). A sealant serves to prevent external environmental impacts such as moisture, rain, sand, and dust entering inside of the building and make the building durable. In order to fulfill basic jointing function of sealing, at least 6 mm joint gap between two bonding surfaces are required. Also, adhesion performance between sealant and surfaces and the compatibility with other building materials are required to check before installation. In general, 2 part polyurethane sealant and 1 part silicone sealant are most common materials for sealing the joint of window. In this study, adhesion performances of those two generic sealants reflecting actual application conditions and the compatibility evaluations with other building materials are conducted to propose proper window installation procedures.

  • Field and accelerated tests are performed to assess the service life of construction sealants. Mathematical degradation models for tensile strength and elongation, that are the two major performance characteristics of sealants, are derived from the test results. Accelerated degradation test methods for assessing service life of construction sealants are developed based on the degrading performance and a numerical example is provided.

시험법에 따른 실리콘 실란트의 곰팡이 저항성 평가 (Assessment of Fungal Growth Resistance in Silicone Sealants According to Test Methods)

  • 본 연구에서는 실리콘 실란트 총 6종을 제작하여 곰팡이 저항성 시험 방법인 ASTM G 21, LH 전문 시방(LHCS 41 40 12) 시험과 신규 제정된 KS F ISO 21265 시험법에 따라 곰팡이 저항성을 평가하였다. 그 결과, KS F ISO 21265 시험법이 ASTM G 21과 LH 전문 시방(LHCS 41 40 12) 시험법에 비해 곰팡이 저항성 평가에 대한 변별성이 더 큰 것으로 판단되었으며, 알콕시 경화형 실란트에 비해 옥심 경화형 실란트의 곰팡이 저항성이 더 큼을 확인하였다. 또한, KS F ISO 21265 시험법에서는 50℃에서 4주간 침수 후 곰팡이 저항성을 평가하는 조건 도입을 통해 실란트의 장기적인 곰팡이 저항성 평가가 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

  • This study is intended for the review of the standards related with the released contaminants from building materials used in the building room. Because currently being used industry standard and test method for the emissions of air pollutant are ambiguous so the new enactment and revision of the test methods and standards need to be addressed to match the actual situation in the construction industry. Based on actual evaluation for seveal sealants used in the job site, this study will present a direction for the revision and new enactment of standards and test method appropriately.

  • Recently, to ensure the high openness and prospect right of the building, curtain wall system is mainly applied to the high-rise buildings at domestic and overseas. As a result, the use of Structural Sealant is increasing. Structural Glazing Sealant is applied with the glass and AL-FRAME (Mullion) that the strong structural strength is required to hold. However, the structural sealant at the construction site in a variety of external influences, such as wind load, thermal load, uv, chemical pollutants etc, in case of storing condition, if structural sealant stored in high temperature for a long period time, it will not perform well compared with initial performance. In this study, the influence of the performance of one-component structural sealant evaluated for proper storage conditions at the construction site and how to use the non-intended.

  • 본 최근 건축물 외벽공사에 커튼월 공법의 사용이 증가하고 있다. 외벽 커튼월 공법은 공기단축 및 경제적 효용이 크다는 장점으로 인해 건물의 외벽으로도 널리 시공되고 있다. 그러나, 커튼월 공법의 프레임과 유리를 연결해 주는 구조용 실란트에 대한 내후성 및 구조물의 거동에 대한 열화를 대체한 시험은 KS F 4910 규격에는 부재한 실정으로 안정적인 커튼월 공법 도입과 품질향상을 위해서는 필요한 요소이다. 본 연구에서는 외기환경하에서 거동에 대한 탄성복원력시험을 실시하였다. 구조용 실란트를 대상으로 열에 대한 실링재의 열화를 평가하였다. 국내에서는 구조용 실란트의 가변형 변위거동에 대한 연구는 부족한 실정으로 본 연구에서는 외기 환경에 노출된 열화조건을 대체하여 실험실 조건에서 재현한 결과를 확인하고, 설계에 반영하고자 한다. 본 연구 결과에 따르면, 기존의 구조용 실링재는 KS F 4910의 품질기준은 만족하지만, 본 연구에서 실시한 조건에서는 시험체의 파단과 표면의 균열 등이 발생하는 것을 확인하였다. 특히, 내후성 시험에서는 시험체 모두 불용의 상태를 확인하여 향후, 커튼월 공법에 사용되는 구조용 실링재의 장기적인 내구성능 평가가 필요한 것으로 판단된다. 따라서, 기존의 구조용 실링재가 현장에 적용되기 위해서는 별도의 내구성능 평가를 실시가 요구된다.

  • Silicone structural glazing (SSG) is a method utilizing a silicone adhesive to attach glass, metal, or other panel material to the structure of a building. Windload and other impact loads on the facade are transferred from the glass or panel through the silicone structural sealant to the systems' framework. Silicone structural glazing systems are currently a very common method of glazing throughout the world. Locally, structural silicone glazing has become very common to achieve aesthetically pleasing and high utilization of small land for both residential and commercial building. Although structural silicone glazing has been utilized for approximately thirty years in Korea, the understanding of its technology was low and limited. Consequently, Korean projects experienced many quality issues during assembly and construction, even in very recently finished buildings. Adhesion loss and water infiltration occurred on more than one project, and the time and cost to repair these issues were substantial. In general, there are two kinds of structural silicones depending on fabrication methods. 1part structural silicone is for site glazing system and 2part structural silicone is for unitized factory glazing system. In this paper, 2part structural silicone which is very common for factory fabricating curtainwall systems was evaluated with regards to various mixing ratio. Since the structural performance of 2part sealant can be affected by mixing ratios, some extra ranges of recommended mixing ratio were evaluated to see any performance differences. Besides on cure profile, comparative evaluations for mechanical properties and adhesion develop on common building substrates were conducted.
