  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate compliance with prescribed medication in the elderly visiting public health centers. Method: Data were collected from 665 elders living in Seoul and the Gyeonggi Province during the period from February 21 to June 30 in 2006. The data were collected through individual interviews and were analyzed using correlation and multiple regression analysis with the SAS 9.1 program. Results: The mean of medication compliance was 2.97(${\pm}.68$) on a 5-point Likert scale. Specifically, compliance 3.14(${\pm}.70$) for medication dose, 2.94(${\pm}.77$) for medication frequency, and 2.84(${\pm}.79$) for medication time. The elderly with a higher level of education (${\beta}=.095$, p<.001), with health insurance (${\beta}=.208$, p=.0009) and with a higher level of family support (${\beta}=.040$, p=.0306) showed a higher level of mediation compliance. Female elders (${\beta}=.142$, p<.001) kept higher medication compliance than male ones. Conclusion: These findings suggest that people with low education, low socioeconomic status and less family support need more education before medication. The evaluation of medication compliance needs to be encouraged before starting medication to distinguish those who may not comply with medical prescription. Predictive factors identified in this study must be considered when designing interventions, program development and education for appropriate medication management for the elderly.

  • The purpose of this convergence study is to understand the knowledge of cervical cancer and its prevention of cervical cancer in unmarried women. 216 women were collected through self-report questionnaires and analyzed by SPSS program. In result, human papilomavirus vaccination was performed in 33.9%, pap test was performed in 7.9%. The human papilomavirus vaccination and pap test group were 6.7% and human papilomavirus vaccination or pap test group were 28.5%. According to the cervical cancer prevention activities, several differences were detected in the family history of cervical cancer, subjective norms of cervical cancer prevention, perceived behavioral control, and behavioral intention. Therefore, it is important to increase susceptibility of the prevention of cervical cancer in unmarried women, and it is important for the health professionals to perform the most meaningful support system preventing cervical cancer in unmarried women. In addition, various policies should be actively promoted that unmarried women participate in the prevention of cervical cancer actively.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate conception of children's hospitalization stress and to make clear concepts, and to use Walker & Avant's concept analysis method. Children's hospitalization stress attributes were derived from physiological changes, individual-environmental interactions, cognitive and psychosocial developmental stage responses, and intrinsic and outward changes due to coping styles. The prerequisites for hospitalization stress of children were disease severity, biological factors, and support system, and the results were hospitalization adaptation, disease and health recovery, improvement of child development, and acquisition of coping skills. In order to solve the prerequisites for Hospitalization stress of children, it is necessary to be aware of the disease and to establish a support system of parent-family. Afterwards, we suggest more qualitative research on the hospitalization stress of children, the development of tools that reflect the characteristics of the hospitalization stress of children, and the development of programs to solve the Hospitalization stress.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the children's school adjustment on family strength, social support and parental efficacy according to their parents perception and to submit basic material to recognize the necessity of strengthening parental capability for enhancing children's adaptation to school. The summary of the results of the study was as below. All of the subjects who recognized family strength, social support and parental efficacy according to their parents perception showed middle score over 3. The parents who recognized family strength and parental efficacy were examined as the factors which influence children's adjustment to school. These showed that children's adjustment to school is better when parents recognized that family strength is higher, and when parents recognized that parental efficacy is higher. But when parents recognized social support, no meaningful influence appeared, so if the parents who are first social supporters of school-aged children understand the importance of children's adjustment to school, which has a high adaptability with high social support, and recognize the difference of the influence of social support on the children's adjustment to school and home, it could be the factor to reduce children's adjustment problems at school.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to explore the degree of depression, perceived health status, chronic disease and quality of life(QOL) among rural elderly and to determine the factors related to their QOL. Method: The design of this study was a correlational study. The subjects were 423 elderly consisted of 157(37.1%) men and 266(62.9%) women dwelling in a rural area of N City. Data were collected from May to December, 2003 using a structured questionnaire. A stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed to identify the factors related to the QOL. Result: It was found that the mean score of QOL was in total with 2.15 out of 5.00 and women elderly's score was significantly lower than men(t=2.20, p=.028). Perceived health status showed statistically significant positive relationship with QOL(r=.608, p<.05), while depression(r=-.751, p<.01) and chronic illness(r=-.336, p<.01) showed statistically significant negative relationship. Depression was found to have the highest correlation with QOL among the subjects. Depression score explained QOL at the most, accounting for 36.8% of the variability, followed by perceived health(8.2%) and the number of chronic illness(.7%). Other factors related to the QOL were economic status and absence of spouse. Conclusion: In order to increase the QOL of rural elderly, it is necessary to decrease the depression, to increase their perceived health status and to decrease the number of chronic illness. We suggest the implementation of a program not only to promote physical health status and self-care ability but to take care of mental health for the rural elderly.

  • Because of a rising in the standard of living and the development of medical technology, Korea is expected to become an aging society more than 14% elderly population and the silver generation will be responsible for the large portion of economic activities. The silver generation has relatively diminished in perception, learning, and exercise due to the physical aging. Therefore, it is important the development of game contents which can constantly provide the maintenance function of physical and mental health and the functional exercise with spending the leisure time. In this paper, we suggest a design method for developing the game contents which are able to help the silver generation to strengthen their lower extremities and to enjoy their leisure time. The proposed method will enable to lead the silver generation to carry on the physical activities with the amusement of playing a game through the functional design concepts appropriate for the ability of the silver generation's perception and physical activities, an adaptive game process customized by the individual capability and a user-friendly sensory interface.

  • This is a descriptive study on quality of life(QOL) and related factors of ostomates to provide a basic data for development of nursing interventions. The subjects were 110 ostomates who were members of the Daegu or Daejon branches of the Korean Ostomy Association. Data collection was performed between March 1st and April 6th, 1998. Measurements of QOL, self-care, family support, self-esteem, and hope were used as the study tools. Data were analyzed with the SAS program by using t-test, ANOVA Pearson correlation and stepwise multiple regression. The results are as follows : 1) The score on the QOL scale ranged from 97 to 226 with a mean of 164.53($\pm$28.29). 2) The score of QOL on the general and ostomate-related characteristics showed significant differences according to monthly income, monthly participation in ostomate meetings, combined treatments after operation, types of evacuation management, problems of ostomy, help in caring for the ostomy, length of time since ostomate surgery, and presence or absence of readmission after discharge. 3) There were significant positive correlations between quality of life and other factors : self-esteem(r=0.7107, P<0.001), hope(r=0.6584, P<0.001) family support(r=0.6191, P<0.001), perception of health condition(r=0.6017, P<0.001), and self-care (r=0.2286, P<0.05). 4) The variables that affected the quality of life of the subjects were self-esteem, level of family support, perception of health condition, monthly participation in ostomate meetings, combined treatments after operation, monthly income, level of hope, and age in that order. The variance of quality of life was $R^2$=77.20 percent by calculating the sum of those variables. In conclusion, it is necessary for nursing intervention to promote self-esteem, family support, and hope in the care of ostomates in order to improve QOL.
