The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness the Song Psychotherapy Program in decreasing test anxiety in adolescent students. For this study, twelve sessions were conducted in five stages for four 14-year-old middle school students at D Middle School on Daejeon. To measure the effects of the Song Psychotherapy Program, the researcher compared the results of Test Anxiety Inventory of Korea (TAI-K) before and after the program. The researcher also analyzed the contents of the participants' verbal responses and answers to repeated questionnaires to find out what participants experienced in Song Psychotherapy. The results of this study were as follows. First, a comparison of test anxiety scores prior to and following the program showed an average decrease from 91.75 to 60.5. Second, the subjects reported a positive musical experience in the program. The results of the research as described above show that the Song Psychotherapy Programis effective in decreasing test anxiety levels and general examination stress in adolescent students.
This study examined the effect of Attention Feedback Awareness and Control Training(A-FACT) on attention bias and generalized anxiety symptoms in college students. A total of 31 college students with at least 10 points on the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item (GAD-7) scale or at least 56 points on the Korean version of the Penn State Worry Questionnaire (K-PSWQ) with attention bias were randomly assigned to one of three groups: A-FACT( n = 11), Attention Bias Modification (ABM)(n = 10) and Active Placebo Control (APC)(n = 10). Participants in A-FACT group received real-time feedback on attention bias based on their Baseline Neutral Response time(BNR) during A-FACT using a dot probe task. Participants in the ABM group received standard ABM, and those in the APC performed a dot probe task that they were informed was a program to reduce attention bias, but feedback was not provided. A total of eight sessions was conducted twice a week over a 4-week period. After every two sessions, GAD-7, K-PSWQ and K-STAI were rated. The effect of attention bias modification training was rated by changes in the Attention Bias Score(ABS), and in GAD-7, K-PSWQ and K-STAI scores. The results of repeated measure ANOVA indicated that the A-FACT group showed a significant decrease in ABS as well as in GAD-7, K-PSWQ and K-STAI scores compared to the other groups. Current results suggest that self-regulatory control of attention, that is, recognition of bias through feedback in A-FACT, may be effective in alleviating attention bias and generalized anxiety symptoms by recognizing bias through feedback on bias in attention bias modification training.
This research investigates gifted students' mothers' rearing stress based on the concept mapping method. For this, 12 gifted students' mothers solicited, gathered and analyzed related statements, and then did multidimensional scaling and hierarchical cluster analysis. The stress value was .273 which was appropriate for the two level concept mapping study. In addition 101 mothers of gifted students rated for the rearing stresses they experience. Results were as follows. First, 79 concrete statements were solicited and as a result of concept mapping were categorized as 'burden and conflict as mothers of the gifted', 'possible negative characteristics due to the giftedness', and 'self-esteem and pressure by the title of the gifted'. Especially following items showed relatively high average: worrying about how to give the child a specific help for his/her career(M=4.65); worrying that she might be intervening too much in their child's behaviors(M=4.60); getting pressured supporting the child to get involved in the gifted education system continually(M=4.46); worrying if her child is not developing his/her talent enough due to the lack of time and money(M=4.44); being concerned that her high expectations might be putting her child under too much pressure (M=4.43). Implications of the study related to gifted education practices were discussed.
Objectives : This study was to evaluate sleep patterns and daytime sleepiness resulting from rotating shiftwork. The authors, also, tried to find out the relationship between the severity of daytime sleepiness and personality factors. Methods : The subjects consisted of 41 female rotating shiftwork nurses and the control group consisted of 39 female day timeworkers. All of them completed the Sleep questionnaire of Korea University Sleep Disorder Clinic, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale(ESS), the 16 Personality Factors(16PF), the Beck Depression Inventory(BDI) and the State Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI). Multiple regression analysis of 16PF of the rotating shiftwork nurses was done to find out possible predictors of the severity of daytime sleepiness. Results : The mean duration of deprived sleep due to rotating shiftwork was $64.26\;{\pm}\;14.54\;min$. The frequency of sleep difficulty($1.24\;{\pm}\;1.17\;day/week$ vs $0.67\;{\pm}\;1.31\;day/week$, p < 0.05), time needed to fall asleep($103.05\;{\pm}\;73.48\;min$. vs $70.00\;{\pm}\;60.08\;min$, p < 0.05), sleep duration when having some difficulties in sleep ($204.25\;{\pm}\;79.90\;min$. vs $280.44\;{\pm}\;111.59\;min$., p < 0.001), recent changes in energy($x^2\;=\;4.16$, p < 0.05), worrying about sleep($x^2\;=\;11.08$, p < 0.05), and taking naps($x^2\;=\;4.98$, p < 0.05) showed significant differences between rotating shiftworkers and normal controls. The ESS socre of shiftworkers ($8.68\;{\pm}\;3.04$) was greater than that of normal controls ($6.86\;{\pm}\;3.04$)(p < 0.01). Personality factors such as C factor($R^2\;=0.283$), I factor($R^2\;=0.358$) and G factor($R^2\;=0.470$) were related with the severity of the daytime sleepiness(p < 0.001). Conclusions : The rotating shiftwork nurses had more difficulties in sleep such as having difficulties in falling asleep and in maintaining sleep, and showed lowered energy, decreased senses of well-being and so on. The rotating shiftwork nurses experienced more severe daytime sleepiness than controls did. Personality factors, such as C factor, I factor, and G factor of 16PF were suggested to be useful for predicting the severity of daytime sleepiness resulting from rotating shiftwork.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine cognitive and psychological characteristics of patients with military service suitability issues compared to the general psychiatric outpatients. Methods : 108 patients who visited psychiatric clinic center due to military service suitability issues and 80 general psychiatric patients were recruited from the Department of Psychiatry of university hospital. ANCOVA and chi-equare test were used to examine differences between two groups. Furthermore, we utilized paired t-test to compare the scrore within military group depending on when they performed the psychological assessment. Results : There were no significant differences between military group and general outpatient group in WAIS-IV scores. However, military group scored remarkably higher than control group on validity scales, F-r and Fp-r whereas they scored lower on validity scale, K-r. Furthermore, military group showed significantly higher on BDI and MMPI-2-RF, EID, RCd, RC2, RC3, COG, HLP, SFD, NFC, STW, SAVE, SHY, DSF, NEGE-r, INTR-r. As a result of comparison within the military group following the periods of assessment, military group did not show the significant differences on the overall scales of MMPI-2-RF. Conclusions : The present study showed that military group tends to report their psychological distress more exaggeratedly. In addition, they had significantly elevated not only emotional distress such as depression and anxiety but interpersonal problem. The implications and limitations were discussed along with some suggestions for the future studies.

Objectives : This study aims to compare the mental health of adolescents living in child care institutions (orphanages) and youth shelters, to provide basic data for appropriate psychiatric interventions for each facilities. Methods : The sample consisted of 157 adolescents in child care institutions and 31 adolescents in Youth Shelters who completed the Korean version of the Youth Self Report (K-YSR). We compared the K-YSR scores between the two groups and also examined factors related to suicidality. Results : Adolescents in youth shelters were older and had higher rates of drinking (p<0.001), smoking (p<0.001), and "abnormal sleep" (p=0.007) than adolescents in child care institutions. They also showed higher 'suicidality' (p=0.004) and K-YSR scores. On the other hand, adolescents in child care institutions have lower 'suicidality', but they have higher 'suicidality' when they have 'abnormal sleep' (OR 4.194; p=0.006), 'abnormal diet' (OR 2.503; p=0.010), and 'concerns about weight gain' (OR 2.503; p=0.010). Additionally, 17.6% of participants in the study showed 'suicidality'. The 'suicidality' group had a higher overall K-YSR score than the non-suicidal group, and had higher 'abnormal sleep' (OR 3.766; p=0.014) and 'concern about weight gain' (OR 2.864; p=0.032). Conclusions : Adolescents in youth shelters appear to have more serious clinical difficulties than adolescents in child care institutions, so prompt psychiatric intervention is needed. Additionally, it is necessary to consider mental health assessments including suicidality when adolescents in child care institutions complain of sleep, eating, or weight gain problems.
The purpose of this study was to find ways to effectively utilize job creation activities that can be an alternative to employment and entrepreneurship in diverse and subdivided labor markets. The effect of business capability on the job creation intention and the mediating effect of entrepreneurship were identified, and gender was used as a control variable for comparison among groups. The questionnaire was composed of 4 questions for 6 variables, and a 7-point Likert scale was used. Objectives : Many of the patients with type 2 diabetes are associated with sleep problems, and the rate of insomnia is known to be higher in the general population. The aims of this study were to know the frequency and clnical characteristics of insomnia, and related variables to insomnia in patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Methods : For 99 patients from 18 to 80 years of age (65 males and 34 females) with type 2 diabetes, interviews were performed. Total sleep time and sleep latency was evaluated. Insomnia was evaluated using the Korean Version of the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI-K). Severity of depressive symptoms were evaluted using the Korean version of the Hamilton Depression Scale (K-HDRM). According to the cutoff score of 15.5 on the ISI-K, subjects were divided into the group of type 2 diabetics with insomnia (N=34) and those without insomnia (N=65) at first, and then statistically analyzed. Results : TInsomnia could be found in 34.34% of type 2 diabetics. Type 2 diabetics with insomnia had significantly more single or divorced (respectively 11.8%, p<0.05), higher total scores of the K-HDRS ($11.76{\pm}5.52$, p<0.001), shorter total sleep time ($5.35{\pm}2.00hours$, p<0.001), and longer sleep latency ($50.29{\pm}33.80minutes$, p<0.001). The all item scores of the ISI-K in type 2 diabetics with insomnia were significantly higher than those in type 2 diabetics without insomnia, that is, total ($18.38{\pm}2.69$), A1 (Initial insomnia) ($2.97{\pm}0.76$), A2 (Middle insomnia) ($3.06{\pm}0.69$), A3 (Terminal insomnia) ($2.76{\pm}0.61$), B (Satisfaction) ($3.18{\pm}0.72$), C (Interference) ($2.09{\pm}0.97$), D (Noticeability) ($2.12{\pm}1.09$) and E (Distress) ($2.21{\pm}0.81$) (respectively p<0.001). Variables associated with insomnia in type 2 diabetics were as following. Age had significant negative correlation with A3 items of the ISI-K (${\beta}=-0.241$, p<0.05). Total scores of the K-HDRS had significant positive correlation, while total sleep time had significant negative correlation with all items of the ISI-K (respectively p<0.05). Sleep latency had significant positive correlation with total,, A1, B and E item scores of the ISI-K (respectively p<0.05). Conclusions : Insomnia was found in about 1/3 of type 2 diabetics. According to the presence of insomnia, clinical characteristics including sleep quality as well as quantity seemed to be different. Because depression seemed to be correlated with insomnia, clinicians should pay attention to early detection and intervention of depression among type 2 diabetics.
