Effectiveness of Online Learning Tools in College Education: Experiments in Physical Geography (자연지리 강좌를 대상으로 한 온라인 러닝의 효과 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness of learning management systems (LMS) in the physical geography class. The study adopted the experimental design and three classes participated in this study. The first class was controlled using only classroom lectures, the second class used PPT slides along with the classroom lectures, and the third class used online video clips along with the lectures. The experiments were conducted from the Spring Semester 2007 to the Spring Semester 2008 for the introductory physical geography course. The study results showed that online learning tools help students improve academic performance and their attitudes towards the class and the instructor. Compared to simple PowerPoint slides, voice recording attached to the visual lecture slide materials enhanced students' motivation. Class lectures with lecture slides did not improve students' scores. However, when the visual materials were combined with voice recording, the number of internet access to online class materials increased, and class attendance and students' final grades were improved. Based on the results, the instructional design model that combines classroom and online learning was suggested.

  • 대학생의 식행동, 체중조절방법 및 영양소 섭취실태에 대한 영양교육 효과를 평가하고자 인터넷 영양교육 강의를 수강하는 대학생(남학생 122명, 여학생 103명) 총 225명을 대상으로 자가기록식 설문조사를 실시하였다. 영양교육은 비만에 대한 전반적인 내용(정의, 원인, 비만으로 생기는 질병, 치료방법 등), 간식, 폭식 등의 문제점, 영양소의 체내 작용 등을 실시하였으며, 조사항목으로는 신체계측, 식행동, 체중조절방법 및 식이섭취조사를 영양교육 전과 8주간의 영양교육 후 2회에 걸쳐 동일한 방법으로 검사하였다.(중략)

  • 현대에 많은 사람들이 인터넷을 활용하게 됨으로써 웹으로 학습하는 수가 늘어나고 있다. 따라서 웹을 이용한 원격강의 학습방법이 늘어나고 있다. 이미 영어와 같은 외국어 학습의 경우는 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 웹을 이용한 한자학습을 Edutainment식 방법을 활용하여 학습을 하는데 있어서 즐겁게 한자학습을 할 수 있도록 함으로써 보다 효과적인 학습이 될 수 있는 방법을 제안하였다. 또한 이러한 방법이 실제 효과가 있는지에 대해 이미 한자를 많이 사용하고 있는 일본의 한 site와 우리나라에서 실행되고 있는 한자학습 site에 있는 한자학습 방법을 설문하여 비교ㆍ평가 하였다.

Design and Evaluation of a Gateway to Faculty Syllabi in Computer Science (인터넷 대학강의안 전산학분야 메타데이터 시스템 구축 및 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to design and evaluate a metadata system for internet-based syllabi in computer science. The study constructed two prototype systems for the experiment. One was constructed using only Dubline Core (DC) elements and the other was a DC-expanded system with additional eight elements that are not the part of DC elements. The thlrty subjects were chosen from those who majored in Computer Science. Two retrieval tasks were assigned to them. One was to find syllabi in which they are' interested and the other was to find relevant course syllabi for a given course title. After the search, they were asked to evaluate the systems in terms of efficiency, accuracy, and their satisfaction of the system. The result of the first experiment indicates that DC-based system performed significantly better in terms of search time and DC-expanded system in terms of satisfaction measure. An additional experiment was conducted to test efficiency of the browsing categories. The interview with subjects was carried out to find any difficulties associated with the current browsing scheme. The subjects expressed much1 satisfaction about assigning a course to multiple browsing categories.

Analysis on the Curriculum Operation and Educational Innovation in Building Construction of Domestic Universities (국내대학의 건축시공 교육과정 운영 및 교육혁신 실태 분석)

  • Technology and society have undergone continued progress and improvement. Thus, constant changes are required for university education, which then directs social development. This study analyzed the current status of educational innovations in the field of building construction at domestic universities in South Korea. The major findings of this study are as follows. Lectures on educational innovations have been introduced in the field of building construction at domestic universities. Five out of 50 universities were found to offer lectures on innovation. Notable innovative teaching methods being introduced were team-based learning and flipped learning. The biggest difference between innovative and traditional teaching methods was whether to encourage students to perform self-directed learning. In this manner, there were also differences in evaluation methods, weekly lecture schedules and learning support tools. Thus it is determined that continuous research and efforts for innovation in university education are necessary to respond to the ever-present changes in society.

The Study on the Software Educational Needs by Applying Text Content Analysis Method: The Case of the A University (텍스트 내용분석 방법을 적용한 소프트웨어 교육 요구조사 분석: A대학을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the college students' needs for software curriculum which based on surveys from educational satisfaction of the software lecture evaluation, as well as to find out the improvement plan by applying the text content analysis method. The research method used the text content analysis program to calculate the frequency of words occurrence, key words selection, co-occurrence frequency of key words, and analyzed the text center and network analysis by using the network analysis program. As a result of this research, the decent points of the software education network are mentioned with 'lecturer' is the most frequently occurrence after then with 'kindness', 'student', 'explanation', 'coding'. The network analysis of the shortage points has been the most mention of 'lecture', 'wish to', 'student', 'lecturer', 'assignment', 'coding', 'difficult', and 'announcement' which are mentioned together. The comprehensive network analysis of both good and shortage points has compared among key words, we can figure out difference among the key words: for example, 'group activity or task', 'assignment', 'difficulty on level of lecture', and 'thinking about lecturer'. Also, from this difference, we can provide that the lack of proper role of individual staff at group activities, difficult and excessive tasks, awareness of the difficulty and necessity of software education, lack of instructor's teaching method and feedback. Therefore, it is necessary to examine not only how the grouping of software education (activities) and giving assignments (or tasks), but also how carried out group activities and tasks and monitored about the contents of lectures, teaching methods, the ratio of practice and design thinking.

  • The purpose of this study is to derive a curriculum environment for operating various student-centered teaching and learning methods, and the following results were derived: First, most of the lectures, discussions and consultations, data search, report preparation, presentation, work exhibition, and others were commonly derived, regardless of the types of long-term and short-term project classes for each subject. In particular, the necessity of operating various classes at the same time was suggested, indicating the need for an integrated teaching and learning operation environment in the unit subject class. Second, considering that practical classes are linked concurrently to lectures and discussion classes to conduct one subject class, it is necessary to switch to a specialized curriculum system that allows various classes such as lectures to be carried out at the same time. Third, as a result of grasping the appropriateness of the space size of the subject class for realizing different class types in the future, it can be seen that the space size of the practice room, including the space for practice and the area for exhibition, should be expanded. Based on the research results, the spatial environment for the operation of future teaching and learning classes is based on the public curriculum classroom system, and whether professional curriculum classes, such as lecture rooms and discussion and presentation rooms, are secured according to the number of students.
