An Exploration on the Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting Clothes based on the Motion Analysis of the Extremities (인체의 사지 동작 분석에 기반한 압전 에너지 수확 의류의 탐색적 연구)

  • Recently, researches of piezoelectric energy harvesting were tried and in this study, a piezoelectric energy harvesting clothes was developed. First, piezoelectric energy harvesting zone on the extremities were drawn by 3D motion capturing and as a result, the hip, the elbow, and the knee were determined. A new structure of piezoelectric harvester was developed for appling to clothes. Because it needed to be flexible and sensitive for human body, the 2 layer stacked structure was proposed. A prototype of seamless garment was designed for a harvesting clothes because it needed to be body-tight and not to restrict the movement. High peak-to-peak voltages were acquired from the energy harvesting clothes.

The effect of color on apparent warmth and judgment distortion (색의 속성에 따른 지각된 온도감과 판단 왜곡)

  • The effect of color evokes a certain feeling and affects behavior. Especially, an understanding and applying color are critical because well-designed color substantially contributes to quality and usability. In this study, the effects of three color components(hue, value, and chroma) on apparent warmth were investigated separately and relatively, and then feasibility of applying to the information display was examined. The result showed that the apparent warmth of 10 Hues was a U-shaped function declining from Red to Purple-Blue and increasing from Purple-Blue to Red-Purple with following order of color-circle. Chroma made the character of hues remarkably clear, so warm color becomes warmer and cool color becomes cooler if chroma gets higher. But value has no effect on warmth. These results propose that we can change the apparent warmth by varying chroma in the limitation of color use. And there was a sharp distinction between warm and cool color, Meanwhile, in the reading task of the graphical information, the subjects' judgment distortion overestimating or underestimating the actual degrees was ascertained. This result should be applied to control operator's sensitivity in accordance with the purpose of task and display.

Relative Effects of Cultural Orientation-LOC Types on Global/Local Processing (문화성향-내외 통제소재 조합 유형에 따른 전역/국소 처리에서의 차이)

  • The relative effects of individual differences in cultural orientation (individualism vs. collectivism) and locus of control (LOC: internal vs. external control beliefs) combination types on global/local processing were compared by manipulating the compound stimulus types (arrows or letters), and the stimulus-stimulus congruence. The results can be summarized as followings. First, consistent with previous research on global/local processing of the compound stimuli, reaction time (RT) for global stimuli than for local stimuli, and that in the stimulus-stimulus congruent condition than in the stimulus-stimulus incongruent condition was faster. Second, faster RT was found in the compound arrows condition than in the compound letters. Third, individual difference in LOC, rather than that in the cultural orientations, appeared to be related to global precedence effect, when the compound letters were presented. These results indicated that the individual's LOC rather than cultural orientation can increase the size of the global precedence effect, which might be involved in the stage of cognitive analysis than that of feature detection.

The impacts of social exclusion and the need to belong on the affective forecasting of social events (사회적 배척과 소속 욕구가 사회적 사건의 정서 예측에 미치는 영향)

  • The present study examined the intensity of affective forecasting and the size of affective forecasting errors of people who experienced social exclusion or those high in need to belong. In Particular, a series of studies was designed to explore the moderating role of the types of future events (i.e. social vs. non-social events) in the relationship between social exclusion, the need to belong and affective forecasting. Results indicated that participants who experienced social exclusion or be high in need to belong showed significantly extreme affective ratings on the future social events compared to the future non-social events. Additional results suggested that more social exclusion experiences or higher needs to belong did not affect to the affective ratings on the experienced social events, indicating greater affective forecasting errors of socially excluded people or people with higher need to belong. The implications and limitations of the results were also discussed.

  • In this study, we reviewed recent trends for enhancing human cognitive accessibility to social VR platform. We also proposed a practical method to predict VR sickness and improve the cognitive accessibility. In doing so, we investigated subtle changes in human body sway unconsciously made before, during, and after being exposed to extreme VR experience. The scientific assumption that VR sickness would be correlated with the subtle changes in body sway was validated. We found that participants who showed sensitive changes in the body sway before VR experience, felt more severe VR sickness than others. The findings can be practically applied in predicting susceptibility to VR sickness prior to VR experiences.

  • By using smartphones more generally, people's lives become more convenient. However, many people complain of stress caused by the use of smartphones, further, the tendencies to reject it are appearing. In this paper, new conceptual word, antismart-resistance consciousness gained by experience before and after introduction of smart devices - is newly proposed as a research variable. In addition, we have studied to identify the relationship affecting continuous use of smartphones with technostress and antismart. To achieve this, a research model and hypotheses were presented and verified by using questionnaires data. The result showed that users who actively embrace innovative technologies were highly tolerant of technostress, whereas knowledge or experience of IT trends did not affect technostress or antismart tendencies.

  • 본 논문은 최신 가상현실 미디어 기술동향과 다양한 분야에서 시도해 온 VR 멀미저감 방안을 리뷰하여, 가상현실 사용자의 인지적 수용성을 높이는 방안에 대해 논의하였다. 이를 통해 최신 미디어 기술의 사용자 가치제안 방식을 분석하고 Social VR 플랫폼의 인지적 수용성을 개선하는 효율적 방안을 제안하였다. 생체신호 모니터링, VR 콘텐츠 적합도 분석, 멀미 메커니즘 조절, 신체동요측정 기반 멀미예측 등 다양한 멀미저감 방식 중 개발 비용과 사용자 수용성 측면에서 가장 효율적인 신체동요측정 기반 멀미예측 기술의 사전테스트 결과를 소개하고 적용 방안을 구체화하였다. 가상현실 체험 전 미세한 신체동요가 많은 사용자일수록 VR 멀미 민감도가 크게 증가하는 것을 확인하였다. 개인의 멀미민감도를 반영하는 본 측정 결과를 다양한 가상현실 환경에서 테스트하고 개인특성에 따른 VR 멀미 데이터베이스를 구축한다면 AI 기반의 멀미 예측기술을 구현하는데 크게 기여할 것으로 예상된다.

The effect of learning stress and reward style on short- and long-term memory performance (학습 스트레스의 수준 및 제공되는 보상 조건의 차이가 단기 및 장기 기억의 수행에 미치는 영향)

  • We examined the effect of delayed and immediate rewards on short- and long-term memory performance depending on the level of stress. It has been demonstrated that delaying feedback during memory tasks could lead to better retention than presenting it immediately (a.k.a., feedback delay benefit or delay-retention effect). In this study, we manipulated stress level(high-stress or low-stress), reward-timing(delayed or immediate reward), reward-existence(500 or 0 won) and retrieval-timing(delayed or immediate memory test). On the high-stress learning condition, one week later, the number of correct answers with delayed-rewards were significantly more than that of delayed-no-rewards but there was not any difference between immediate-rewards and immediate-no-rewards. On the other hand, in the high-stressful immediate memory test, immediate-rewards only had a positive effect on memory performance. The results indicated that delayed rewards improved long-term memory performance by promoting memory consolidation and the sensitivity to rewards was higher under the high-stress condition.

  • This paper purposes to develop an artificial emotion reflecting emotional features contains situations, time, and characteristics, also to develop an interactive character having this artificial emotion with a smart phone. The artificial emotion has an Emotion Module and Drive Module for expressing emotion according to external emotional stimulus and internal drive. The Emotion Module administrates emotions according to time, characteristic, interrelation between different emotions. The Drive Module controls sensitivities of emotion according to changing drives over long time. Also due to defence mechanism for expressing emotions, emotions are processed by two pathways: The first pathway which is affected by the Emotion Module and the Drive Module, and the second pathway that is not to be done. We developed an interactive character having the artificial emotion with this structure using smart phone. And we simulated the artificial emotion what differences there are according to situations, characteristic, and time under same input conditions. The result of this paper has meanings developing the interactive character having the artificial emotion actually, and making it possible to personalize an artificial emotion with expressing the artificial emotion using smart phone.

A study on the relation between colors and tastes used mostly (실생활에서 주로 사용하는 색과 미각의 관계에 관한 연구)

  • According to former studies, people can imagine the specific taste by the specific color, not every color. Besides, studies also say that the relation between colors and tastes is decided by personal experience and frequency about the color of food. So the authors supposed that there is the specific color related the taste. To find the relation, we selected 24 colors and 24 taste adjectives mainly used by people. Then, we examined taste imagined on color with questionnaires of 20 college students who are sensitive to colors and able to use all 24 taste adjectives. Then we analyzed the result by MDS. Finally we could find 5 definite relations between colors and tastes. The result suggested that the number of colors which can be associated with tastes are quite limited. Also, only limited colors can be associated with tastes and it is different by sex. This study shows not only the relation between the color and the taste but also how closely the taste is related to other colors. This study can be used for effective food package design, advertising and so on.
