As the plants grow in a fixed place, they can be a good indicator which reflects the level of environmental pollution. It is necessary for them to develop a strategy to cope with stress under unfavorable environmental conditions. In this study, spindle trees ($Euonymus$$japonica$) were collected from a clean area (Kijang) as well as a heavily polluted area (Onsan) to check applicability of irradiation combined with plant bioassay to environmental monitoring. The leaves were irradiated with 0, 50 and 100 Gy of gamma rays, and then evaluated for antioxidative capacity with 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay and superoxide dismutase (SOD) analysis. The result shows that there was no significant changes in SOD and EDA (Electron Donationg Ability) in the samples collected from a polluted area. In the meanwhile, SOD increased in the samples from a clean area until 6 to 10 hours after irradiation, then it decreased gradually until 24 hours after irradiation. In conclusion, the plants in the polluted area have developed higher resistance to oxidative stress induced by ionizing radiation than those in the relatively clean area. Irradiation combined with plant bioassay on enzymatic activities and free radical scavenging capacity has proven to be a possible tool for biomonitoring the environmental pollution.
ABS1'RACT-Comparative effects of gamma irradiation and ethylene oxide treatment on the sterilization, and physicochemical and sensory quality of dried marine products(shrimp, anchovy) were investigated. Population of mesophilic total bacteria, aerobic spores and tolerant bacteria of samples were $10^{3}-10^{7}/g,\;10^{7}\;to \;10^{4}/g\;and\;10^{2}\;to\;10^{6}/g$, respectively. Coliforms and molds were found only in dried shrimp as $10^{2}/g$. Mesophilic total bacteria, aerobic spores and acid tolerant bacteria were reduced by over 2 to 4 log cycles with irradiation of 5 to 7 kGy and they were completely sterilized by irradiation dose of 7 to 10 kGy. $D_{10}$ value of mesophilic total bacteria of samples ranged from 1.53 to 2.73 kGy. Coliforms and molds were sterilized at 5 to 7 kGy irradiation but ethylene oxide treatment proved insufficient to eliminate the microorgainsms. An optimum dose of irradiation was less detrimental than ethylene oxide treatment to phpicochemical properties of the samples, such as the pH, TBA value, TMA-N, amino acids, minerals and color difference. Sensory quality after three months of storage showed that the overall acceptability of irradiated sample was higher than that of the non treated control as well as ethylene oxide treated samples.amples.

Korean Paldal variety rice, harvested November and hulled into polished and unpolished forms in April, 1969, packed in the straw bags and the kraft paper bags. Being irradiated with 10, 30 and 50 krad ${\gamma}-ray$, the samples were stored at room temperature for testing infestation, uric acid content, fat acidity, riboflavin content and panel test. The results are as follows. 1. The kraft bag lot with polished rice or unpolished rice manifested the apparent disinfestation with $30{\sim}50$ krad irradiation. On the other hand, in the straw bag lot the irradiation effects on disinfestation were weakened through summer on account of the second contamination. 2. The changes of uric acid content in rice were proportional to the state of infestation. 3. Fat acidity, which has a close relation with the rancidity of fat in rice, increased during storage and showed some increasing tendency in the irradiated lot with $30{\sim}50$ krad. 4. In comparison with the control lot, riboflavin content was not affected by 50 krad irradiation. 5. With 10, 30 and 50 krad dose, the irradiated lot should have no significant difference in taste, odour, color and viscosity for the panel test.
A depth of interaction(DOI) detector module using a block scintillator and a pixellated scintillator was designed, and layer discrimination ability was calculated using DETECT2000. The block scintillator was used to improve the sensitivity and the spatial resolution was improved by measuring the DOI. The DOI was measured by analyzing the signal characteristics of each channel of the changed distribution of light. The detector module was composed to the block scintillator in the top layer and the pixellated scintillator in the bottom layer, which changes the distribution of light generated from a scintillator interacting with a gamma ray. In the flood image, the top layer was able to acquire the image at the position similar to the position of the bottom layer because the bottom layer consist of the pixellated scintillator. By using the Anger algorithm, the 16 channel signal was reduced to 4 channels to facilitate the analysis of the signal characteristics. The layer discrimination was measured using a simple algorithm and the accuracy was about 84% for each layer. When this detector module is used in preclinical PET, the spatial resolution at the outside of the field of view can be improved by measuring the DOI.
Purpose Iodine (I-131) is one of the most widely used radioactive isotopes for therapeutic in the field of nuclear medicine. Therapeutic I-131 capsule is made out of lead to shield high energy radiation. Accurate dosimetry is necessarily required to perform safe and effective work for relative workers. The Monte Carlo method is known as a method to predict the absorbed dose distribution most accurately in radiation therapy and many researchers constantly attempt to apply this method to the dose calculation of radiotherapy recently. This paper aims to calculate distance dependent and activity dependent therapeutic I-131 capsule using GEANT4. Materials and Methods Therapeutic capsules was implemented on the basis of the design drawings. The simulated dose was determined by generating of gamma rays of energy to more than 364 keV. The simulated dose from the capsule at the distance of 10 cm and 100 cm was measured and calculated in the model of water phantom. The simulated dose were separately calculated for each position of each detector. Results According to the domestic regulation on radiation safety, the dose at 10 cm and 100 cm away from the surface of therapeutic I-131 capsule should not exceed 2.0 mSv/h and 0.02 mSv/h, respectively. The simulated doses turned out to be less than the limit, satisfying the domestic regulation. Conclusion These simulation results may serve as useful data in the prediction of hands dose absorbed by I-131 capsule handling. GEANT4 is considered that it will be effectively used in order to check the radiation dose.
Purpose With regard to the use of radioiodine in domestic medical institution, the case of exceeding the allowance of nuclear safety Act about radioactive concentration in drainage was found. Through understanding the cause of exceeding case and analyzing radioactive concentration in drainage, evaluating the relationship of the public waters in surroundings and usefulness. Materials and Methods From November 1, 2014 to April 30th, 2015, the research is aiming at domestic twenty hospitals for six months. By using a HPGe gamma-ray spectrometer(Canberra DSA-1000) and GENIE-2000 Analysis software for comparative analysis, measuring a radioactive concentration of radioiodine in drainage. Consequently, we confirm the excess of radioactive concentration of radioiodine in seven medical institutions. Results Conducting a survey of twenty hospitals and average radioactive concentration of radioiodine in drainage appears $42,100Bq/m^3$. The features of domestic hospitals where show a high radioactive concentration are a number of medical treatment patient when using radioactive iodine and the absence of private rest room. During I-131 whole body scan, the pretreatment procedure of urinating is considered emission of residual Iodine. In public waters, the cause of exceeding detect on radioactive concentration in drainage suppose a diagnostic radioactive iodine. Conclusion We confirm the importance of enhanced education, providing a safety control instructions and installing a private rest rooms for patients who injected a low capacity radioiodine. Also, constructing institutional and legal management system is considered about the Emission management standard in drainage.
The n-type and p-type silicon samples were exposed by 40.0, 3.98 MeV proton beams ranging between 0 to $20.0{\times}10^{13}protons/cm^2$. Coincidence Doppler Broadening Positron Annihilation Spectroscopy (CDBPAS) were applied to study of defect characteristics of p type and n type silicon samples. In this investigation the numerical analysis of the spectra was employed to the determination of the shape parameter, S, defined as the ratio between the amount of counts in a central portion of the gamma spectrum and the total counts of whole gamma spectrum. The S-parameter values strongly depend on the irradiated proton beam that indicated the defects generate more, rather than the energy intensity. 40 MeV irradiated proton beam in the n-type silicon at $20.0{\times}10^{13}protons/cm^2$ was larger defects than 3.98 MeV irradiated proton beam. It was analysis between the proton irradiation beams and the proton intensities of the irradiation. Because of the Bragg peak, SRIM results shows mainly in a certain depth of the sample to form the defect by the proton irradiation, rather than the defects to appear for the entire sample.
COP9 signalosome (CSN), which is originally identified as the regulator of the photomorphogenic development in plant, is highly conserved protein complex in diverse eukaryotic organisms. Most eukaryotic CSN complex is composed of 8 subunits, which is structurally and functionally similar to the lid subunit of 26S proteasome and eIF3 translation initiation complex. CSN play important functions in the regulation of cell cycle and checkpoint response by controlling Cullin-Ring E3 ubiquitin ligases (CRL) activities. CSN exhibits an isopeptidase activity which cleaves the neddylated moiety of cullin components. In fission yeast, S-phase cell cycle progression was delayed and the sensitivity to g-ray or UV was increased in CSN1 and CSN2 deletion mutants, indicating that yeast CSN is also involved in the checkpoint regulation. CSN in fungal system more closely resembles that of the higher organisms in the structure and assembly of their components. Functionally, CSN is associated with the regulation of conidiation rhythms in Neurospora crassa and the sexual development in Aspsergillus nidulans. Recent studies also revealed that CSN functions as an essential cell cycle regulator, playing key roles in the regulation of DNA replication and DNA damage response in Aspergillus. Overall, CSN of microorganisms, such as fission yeast and fungi, share functionally common aspects with higher organisms, implying that they can be useful tools to study the role of CSN in the CRL-mediated diverse cellular activities.

This study was to investigate 90-day repeated-dose toxicities of 50 kGy irradiated methanol extract powder of red ginseng in ICR mice. The test materials (methanol extract powder of red ginseng with or without 50 kGy irradiation) were administered by gavage to male and female ICR mice at dose levels of 0, 125, 250 and 500 mg/kg/day for 90 days. In the results, no abnormality was observed in mortality, clinical findings, body weight changes, food consumptions, opthalmoscopic findings, necropsy findings and histopathological findings. Although the minor changes in blood and biochemical parameters were observed, they were not dose dependent and not affected by gamma irradiation. In conclusion, 90-day repeated oral dose of the methanol extract powder of red ginseng and 50 kGy irradiated methanol extract powder of red ginseng to ICR mice did not cause apparent toxicological change at the dose of 125, 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight.

Objectives : Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD) is characterized by significant impairments in executive functions, with a prevalence of approximately 3-5% of all children worldwide. The goal of this study was to examine the relationship between executive functions and electrophysiological activities in children and adolescents with ADHD. Methods : In 31 patients with ADHD, resting-state EEG was recorded, and Comprehensive Attention Test(CAT), Stroop Color-Word Inference Test(Stroop CWIT), Trail Making Test(TMT), and Wisconsin Card Sorting Test(CST) were administered. Korean version of the ADHD Rating Scale(K-ARS) was assessed. Results : Alpha and beta power positively correlated with the Attention Quotient(AQ), while delta power negatively correlated with AQ from CAT. In the Stroop CWIT, decreased delta power and increased beta power were related to higher performance. Power of the alpha band increased with higher TMT performance. Moreover, delta power negatively correlated with good performance on the CST, while alpha and high gamma band showed a positive correlation. Correlation with the parent-rating of ADHD symptoms showed a negative correlation between alpha power and higher scores on the K-ARS. Conclusions : These findings indicate that relative power in higher frequency bands of EEG is related to the higher executive function in children and adolescents with ADHD, while the association with the relative power in lower frequency bands of EEG seem to be vice versa. Furthermore, the findings suggest that QEEG may be a useful adjunctive tool in assessing patients with ADHD.
