  • Using survey on 865 college students, this study examines college students' perceptions on older generations in Korea. College students do not perceive conflicts with the elderly severely. While they recognize that the elderly contributed to family care and economic growth, they perceive that intergenerational conflicts regarding redistribution across generations might be impending in the areas of welfare policies. Progressive students evaluate contributions of the elderly more positively and approve expanding the roles of governments in the areas of welfare policies for the elderly than do conservative students. Students with higher interests in politics also positively assess the contributions of the elderly and are more concerned with the financial sustainability of welfare policies for the elderly. However, they perceive that the possibility of intergenerational conflicts might be low. This study suggests programs to increase intergenerational cooperation between college students and the elderly.

  • We examine the relationship between abusive supervision and work-family conflict, and the moderating effects of employee's resilience and perceived organizational support. We collected the employees' sample(n=136) and conducted multiple hierarchical regression analysis. Abusive supervision has a significant positive effect on work-family conflict. Subordinate's resilience has a buffer effect on the main relationship, but perceived organizational support has no significant moderating effect. This study will be helpful for employees who are suffered from work-family conflict.

  • The study identifies the major themes for integration education program which enhances the relationship between the north Korean refugees and their south Korean hosts. The themes were selected based on qualitative analysis of the socio-cultural conflicts experienced by the refugees and the hosts in the acculturation process. Twenty-eight north Korean refugees over age 20 participated in semi-structured interviews, and two south Korean groups in close contact with the refugees, police and volunteer teachers, were interviewed in focus groups. The interviews were recorded and transcribed for categorization and coding. The study views the acculturation issue as the two-sided integration task for both the north Korean refugees and the south Korean hosts rather than as the one-sided acceptance and assimilation task for the refugees.

  • This study examines how national newspapers interpret, evaluate and report the Korean grand canal and rebuilding four major rivers through the news writings. For this research, ChosunIlbo, the Hankyoreh Shinmun and HankukIlbo are selected. A total of 961 news writings are analyzed by using the concept of news frame designed by Gamson(1993). As a result, the findings are as follows: First, the most frequently reported news frame for ChosunIlbo is economic consequence; the Hankyoreh for ecological environment, and HankukIlbo for authoritative political execution by the administrative. Second, the most frequently interviewed group through all of the papers is the administrative and the ruling Grand National Party, the main body of rebuilding the Korean grand canal. On the country, voices of environmental protection groups, non-profit civic organizations and the ordinary people are reported rarely. Third, the ratio of authoritative political execution by the administrative and economic consequence are very high. Finally, in terms of the framing activity by the interviewed groups in the newspapers, ChosunIlb reports 'Outcome' the most frequently, the Hankyoreh does 'Loss-gain' & 'Process' and HankukIlbo 'Process' & 'Substantive'. Thus it concluded that ChosunIlbo does not play a role as a social mediator for the social disputes. However, the Hankyoreh and HankukIlbo try to represent environmental and civic organizations fairly.

  • This study verified the relationship between marital conflict perceived by working mothers and the influence of children's cyber delinquency and the mediating effect of school life adaptation. For the analysis data, the 14th data of the Korean Children's Panel (2021) were used, and SPSS WIN 23.0 and PROCESS MACRO were used for analysis. The analysis method used the PROCESS MACRO Model Number 4 technique to verify the hypothesis, first, frequency analysis to understand the demographic and sociological characteristics of the survey subjects, second, technical statistics, correlation analysis to understand the technical statistics and correlations of major variables. As a result of the main analysis, first, it was found that marital conflict perceived by working mothers did not have a statistically significant effect on children's cyber delinquency. Second, in the relationship between marital conflict perceived by working mothers and cyber delinquency of children, school life adaptation had a complete mediating effect. Based on these results, it is significant in that it has presented basic data to prevent cyber delinquency problems before children who are active a lot online are exposed.

  • This study examines adolescent delinquent behavior and the influence of friends, focusing specifically on friends' delinquent behavior and the influence of self-efficacy, parent-child conflict and parental control. A total of 1,399 adolescents attending five different high schools (male=642, female=756, consisting of 915 student attending high school and 484 students attending vocational high school) completed a questionnaire developed by Ahn, Hwang, Kim and Park (1997) and Bandura's (1995a) self-efficacy scale. Results indicate that those students who attend high school had parents with higher education, socio-economic status and better studying environment at home, while students attending vocational high school had higher parent-child conflict. Students attending high school had higher self-efficacy scores, while students attending vocational high school had higher scores on delinquent behavior. The results of LISREL analyses revealed a similar pattern for high school and vocational high school students. Combined analysis indicate that friends' delinquent behavior, parent-child conflict and parental control had direct and positive effect on students' delinquency behavior. Self-efficacy had a direct and negative influence of delinquency behavior. Similar pattern was obtained for friends' delinquency behavior, in which self-efficacy had a direct and negative influence of their delinquency behavior and their parent-child conflict and parental control had direct and positive effect on their delinquency behavior. In summary, those students who had lower self-efficacy, higher parent-child conflict and parental control, and with friends who are more likely to engage in delinquent behavior, had higher scores on delinquent behavior. Also, those students who had friends with lower self-efficacy scores and with higher parent-child conflict and parental control are more likely to engage in delinquent behavior, which in turn influenced their delinquent behavior. Friends' delinquent behavior had the greatest influence on students' delinquent behavior indicating the role of friends in influencing delinquency among adolescents.

  • In this study, we investigated the influences of cognitive conflict and situational interest induced by a discrepant event and an alternative hypothesis, attention and state learning strategies on conceptual change. A preconception test was administered to 486 seventh graders. They also completed the questionnaires of cognitive response and situational interest to a discrepant event before/after presenting an alternative hypothesis. After learning the concept of density with a CAI program as conceptual change intervention, the tests of attention, state learning strategies, and conceptual understanding were administered as posttests. Analyses of the results for 197 students having misconceptions about density revealed that post-cognitive conflict was significantly higher than pre-cognitive conflict. However, there was no statistically significant difference between the test scores of pre-situational interest and post-situational interest. Pre-cognitive conflict only exerted a direct effect on post-cognitive conflict, while post-cognitive conflict exerted a direct effect and Journal of the Korean Chemical Society an indirect effect via attention on conceptual understanding. Both pre- and post-situational interests were found to influence on conceptual understanding via attention. Attention had influences positively on deep learning strategy and negatively on surface learning strategy. There was a relatively small effect of state learning strategies on conceptual understanding.
