  • The purpose of this study was to identify the categories and frequencies of communication of students in nursing simulation using standard patient. Data were collected through questionnaires and video recording of communication process of 41 nursing students in simulation related to pediatric enteritis from March to June, 2017. The data were analyzed the contents and frequencies of completed communication forms by trained researcher based on Interaction Process Analysis. In result, students used communication skills in task area frequently. Communication skills, such as orientation, open question, identification, giving information, opinion, and suggestion, and eye contact, were used frequently. In an uncomfortable atmosphere such as listening to the nursing client's complaints, students showed tension and stiff appearance. Students used high quality communication skills such as empathic understanding and therapeutic touch restrictively. In conclusion, we need education strategies relating to therapeutic communication for nursing professionalism and qualitative improvement of nursing service.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare perception of importance and performance of the preceptor's role in clinical education between nursing students and preceptor nurses. Data were collected using a questionaire from 339 nursing students and 52 preceptor nurses. The perceived importance of preceptor's role was higher than the performance. Also, the perceived importance of the preceptor's role was correlated with the performance of nursing students only. It is essential to consider importance and performance of the preceptor's role in developing clinical education program for nursing students. These findings suggest that the guideline for role model and the strategies to increase performance of the preceptor's role are needed.

  • This study is a case study designed to create and implement a project-based introduction to nursing science, with the aim of analyzing students' experiences and perceptions following its implementation. The study targeted a total of 95 nursing students at G University in S City who enrolled in the introduction to nursing science course in 2021 and 2022. Data collection took place from September 2021 to December 2022, and data analysis involved examining reflective journals submitted by students after completing the project activities, using content analysis. The research results revealed four categories and nine themes. The four categories were 'Making Challenging Studies More Accessible,' 'Engaging and Enjoyable Learning Experiences,' 'Enhanced Teamwork,' and 'Presentation Limitations.' The project-based learning method was found to be effective and applicable in nursing education, demonstrating positive effects on students' attitudes and learning outcomes. However, since the study focused on students from a single university, it is suggested that future research include repeated studies and extend the application to other nursing courses to validate its effects.

  • As medical practices and procedures become more specialized and information technology develops in clinical settings, health organizations need medical personnel with special skills, knowledge and competency. But the lack of practical experience in clinical settings may impair competency in basic nursing skills among nursing students. This study used a cross-sectional survey to analyze factors related to nursing competency among nursing students in order to establish effective teaching methods to increase the clinical competency of nursing students. The data were collected from a questionnaire distributed in several universities among 106 nursing students who expressed a willingness to participate in the study during December 2011 in order to measure self-directedness, professional self-concepts, communication ability, learning satisfaction. The data were analyzed using the SPSS window program. There were differences regarding competency in basic nursing skills according to interpersonal relationships, grades, existence of an open lab. The level of learning satisfaction, communication skills and self-directedness were deemed influencing factors regarding competency in basic nursing skills. These 3 elements account for 49.9% of competency with regard to basic nursing skills. According to existing research, blended learning methods which consist of problem based learning, cyber education or case centered education should be considered as effective teaching methods for developing clinical nursing skills.

  • The aim of this study was to identify the convergence factors contributing to clinical practice satisfaction in Korean nursing students. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires from April 1 to May 15, 2015. The participants were 83 nursing students, and a mid-sized private university school of nursing in the Korea was selected. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, T-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS 22.0 program. Satisfaction in major significantly differed by age. Clinical practice satisfaction was positively correlated with satisfaction in major and clinical competence. The factors that significantly influenced clinical practice satisfaction were clinical competence and satisfaction in major, which together explained 26% of the total variance. To improve satisfaction in major and clinical competence among Korean nursing students, it will be necessary to provide nursing students with clinical adaptation programs and preceptor education.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of spirituality and stress of clinical practice and to identify the relationship of variables among nursing students. Data were collected from 203 nursing students using self-report questionnaire composed of demographic characteristics and two scales including spirituality and stress of clinical practice. Data were analyzed by frequencies, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients using the SPSS program. The mean score for spirituality and stress of clinical practice were above medium level, with the value of 3.18 and 3.42 out of 5 respectively. There were significant mean differences in spirituality according to religion and satisfaction on major while those in stress of clinical practice according to sex and satisfaction on major. Significant negative correlation between spirituality and stress of clinical practice was found. In conclusion, to reduce clinical stress in nursing students, it is necessary to develop and apply educational program for spiritual improvement.

  • This study was aimed at identifying the factors of creative ability influencing problem-solving skills for University students majoring in nursing science. A descriptive study was conducted with a sample of 248 students enrolled in a 4-year undergraduate academic program for nursing in one University located in an urban area of Korea. This study used: (a) 25 items of Process Behavior Survey, and (b) 35 items of the Integrative Creativity Scale. The data were collected from Nov. 8th toward Nov. 26th, 2010; the research was conducted through voluntary participation after an explanation about the research. The data were also analyzed with SPSS 18.0 program, using Pearson correlation and stepwise multiple regression methods. Mean score of the level of problem-solving process was 3.62(${\pm}.448$). Problem-solving process was significantly related to creative ability(p<.01). Problem-solving process was significantly influenced by flexibility and elaboration in account for 42.4%. These results imply that in order to foster problem-solving ability, nursing professors need to develop nursing students' creative ability and its factors.

  • This study examined effects of preceptorship in a clinical maternity nursing course. The study design was a quasi-experimental, nonequivalent control group post-test design. The control groups (n=70, from July to October, 2012) participated in traditional practice method and the experimental groups (n=70, from December, 2012, to February, 2013) participated by a preceptor who attended a systematic preceptor education program. The data analyzed included the numbers, percentages, mean, standard deviation, and t-test using SPSS 19.0/WIN. In the experimental group, the clinical competency and practice satisfaction showed significantly higher scores, and the stress of clinical practice showed significantly lower scores than control group. Consequently, the preceptorship was effective in clinical maternity nursing education for student nurses and it is necessary to adapt this many areas in the clinical nursing education field for nursing students.

  • This study is a qualitative study that explores the essential meaning of nursing through a simulation curriculum targeting nursing students. In this study, 18 students, who were 4th grade nursing students at a university in M city, Gyeongsangbuk-do, completed a simulation during the curriculum. Data collection was done through free-form reports and interviews to help students understand the part of nursing they thought through simulation classes. The collected data was analyzed using Krippendorff's phenomenological method. As a result of analyzing the meaning of nursing through simulation class, 3 categories, 10 topics, and 28 meaningful statements were derived. The three categories were derived as 'virtual nursing', 'thinking nursing', and 'together nursing'. As a result of this study, nursing students were seeking their own solution to solve nursing in unpredictable situations based on the philosophy of nursing through virtual simulation. It is expected that this will be used as basic data to develop various and in-depth simulation education programs in the future.
