  • Establishing nursing professionalism is important for providing quality nursing care in various clinical settings and adapting to changing roles in a range of situations. The aim of this study was to identify the influence of volunteer activities and sense of community on nursing professionalism for nursing students. A convenience sampling method of 160 students in a nursing department of university in D city was used in June 2019. Data were analyzed using a t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficients, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows. The nursing professionalism score was above the middle level and differed according to the volunteer motivation and activity continuity significantly. Satisfaction with volunteer activities had a significant positive correlation with a sense of community (r=.47, p<.001), and nursing professionalism had a significant positive correlation with the satisfaction with volunteer activities (r=.51, p<.001). The factors affecting nursing professionalism were a sense of community (p<.001) and satisfaction with volunteer activities (p<.001); this model could explain 37.9% (F=20.38, p<.001). Therefore, nursing students are encouraged to participate voluntarily in a range of activities linked to their field, nurture a sense of community, and develop nursing education programs that help build pride as a nurse and establish nursing professionalism.

The subjects for this study were the 50 patients with ankylosing spondylitis who had been diagnosed as out patients in the Rheumatism Center of one university hospital in Seoul and participated in the 8 weeks exercise program. The data were collected by a questionnaire the period from April 1 to May 2, 2000. Data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Frequencies, using the SAS program. The results were as follows: The mean duration for exercise adherence of ankylosing spondylitis was 12.2 months. The mean self-efficacy score was 74.3 in a possible range of 10 to 100. A significant difference of self-efficacy was found between adherers and non-adherers and self-efficacy of adherer was higher than that of non-adheres(t=4.25, p=.001). Self-efficacy was significantly associated with the total duration of an exercise adherence(r=.42, p=.001). These findings may indicate that the relationship between self-efficacy and exercise adherence in patients with ankylosing spondylitis was supported. From these results, it can be suggested that the relationship between self-efficacy and exercise adherence in patients with ankylosing spondylitis. Therefore, intervention is needed to promote self-efficacy of ankylosing spondylitis and futher studies should develop self-efficacy promoting programs for patients with ankylosing spondylitis.

The spiritual education was composed of three sections; self-awareness, spirituality, and spiritual dimension in nursing. This program was then implemented on the subjects for a total of 10 sessions with each session lasting 120 minutes and given 2 times a week for 5 weeks. The data collected were analyzed for descriptive statistics, χ2-test, Independent t-test and Repeated ANOVA. This spiritual education increased the spirituality, ego-identity, spiritual well-being, satisfaction with life, and spiritual care competence of the nursing students. The effectiveness of the spiritual education also maintained in five weeks after intervention. It is therefore proposed that this education be utilized for the nursing students as basic standardization process of a spiritual nursing care.

  • The purpose of this study is modeling nursing competencies and reasoning out the core competencies, the ability for 20% of important actions for nursing jobs which can manage the rest 80% so that the competency-based nursing curriculum can be developed. A literature review of the vast studies regarding competencies was done to understand the concepts of competency-based curriculum, competency, and nursing competencies, identifying the relationships among each nursing competency categorized in accordance with those concepts. An exemplified concept map of core competencies for the competency-based nursing curriculum is suggested based on a thorough review of various competency modeling methodologies. The core competencies consist of base competency (theoretical/practical nursing knowledge and skills), practical competency (clinical judgment, patient education, communication, etc.), and personality competency (leadership, sense of responsibility, cooperation, etc.). The circular relationship among them can remain consistent through self-directed learning and critical thinking. Therefore, a nurse who have those core competencies is a knowledge worker, a self-directed learner, and also an effective, professional communicator. Further studies which solidify the concept of nursing competencies should be done, as well as the feedback procedures which evaluate the program outcomes and then reflect the evaluation results in the curriculum should be followed continuously.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the undergraduate nursing students have developed their critical thinking disposition, and problem solving ability after they have completed the course. Data were analyzed using repeated measure ANOVA and paired t-test test with SPSS Statistics version 16.0. The study has shown that the students have developed their critical thinking disposition, especially in sub items as prudence, self-confidence, intellectual fairness, healthy skepticism after completing the undergraduate course, but they have failed to mature their problem solving ability except personal control ability. Therefore, it is critical to continuously apply the various teaching methods that will successfully help students enhance their critical thinking disposition and problem solving ability through the whole nursing curriculum.

  • Purpose: This study is a descriptive research study to identifying the factors affecting the continuity of educational service of pre-service teachers. Methods: The data collection period was from March 1 to 30, 2023. Self-efficacy, pro-sociality, work preference, and continuity of educational service were investigated for 90 pre-service teachers at two universities in G Metropolitan City. For the analysis of the collected data, IBM SPSS/Win 26.0 was used, and descriptive statistics, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis were performed. RESULTS: As a result of the study, it was found that there was a difference in educational service continuity according to age and major (p<.05). As a result of examining the correlations among work preference, self-efficacy, pro-sociality, and educational service continuity, all four variables had positive correlations (p<.05). As a result of multiple regression analysis to find out which variables had an effect on the continuity of educational service, extrinsic motivation and pro-sociality showed significant results, and the explanatory power of the two variables to explain the continuity of educational service was 57.4%. Discussion: Based on the results of this study, it is thought that it is necessary to develop and apply various programs that can strengthen extrinsic motivation and pro-sociality in order to increase the continuity of educational service.

  • The purpose of this study was to test the effects of simulation-based delivery nursing practice on proactivity of problem-solving, clinical Performance and team efficacy in nursing college students. This study conducted with a quasi-experimental one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of the study were those who participated in the pretest-posttest survey among third graders in nursing who took a simulation-based delivery nursing practice class at S university in D city, and finally, data from 78 students who completed the survey were analyzed. Data collection was conducted from August 30, 2022 to October 28, 2022, and data were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 program. The findings suggest that simulation-based delivery nursing practice had a positive effect by significantly increasing on problem-solving proactivity, clinical performance ability, and team efficacy. However, There are limitations in generalizing the study results. therefore based on a sufficient number of samples, the effects should be verified through randomized controlled pre-and post-test and, To determine whether the effects are consistent, it will be necessary to follow up in the long term.
