Methods: Participants are multicultural adolescents in the 4th year (2014) of the multicultural adolescents panel survey. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis using SPSS 22.0 program. Results: Self-resiliency was the most influential factor on school adaptation of multicultural adolescents, followed by parental neglect, and national identity, mother's Korean reading ability, multicultural adolescents' speaking ability, city size, mother's education, and mother's speaking ability. Conclusion: Multicultural families who had an experience of parental neglect should be selected and those parents need to be educated about the appropriate parenting method to improve the school adaptation of multicultural adolescents. • Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of different methods of information delivery(information provided by nurses vs. information provided by video) on environmental stress and the satisfaction of nursing needs in families of intensive care unit patients. Methods: A nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design was used in this study. The data were collected from March 24 to May 7, 2009. The subjects, 52 family members of ICU patients (26 for the control group, 26 for the experimental group), were selected from a hospital located in Gyeonggido. Information was given by video to the experimental group whereas the information was directly given by nurses to the control group. Results: Environmental stress and satisfaction of nursing needs were not statistically different between the two groups. Conclusion: The findings of the study suggest that the information given by video may be compatible with that given by nurses. Therefore, nurses need to be flexible in using these different methods to maximize the benefits of direct and indirect information delivery method for families in ICU setting.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the SMS(Short Message Service) informing patients' surgical operation status to his or her family members on their nursing satisfaction. Methods: A non-equivalent control group non-synchronized design was used. The subjects were the family members of patients underwent spine surgery operation at a general hospital in B city. Twenty five subjects in the experimental group received SMS services whereas the other twenty five subjects in the control group received no intervention. Results: There was a significant difference in the level of nursing satisfaction in the experimental group compared to that of the control group(t=7.14, p=.001). Conclusion: The result above indicates that the level of nursing satisfaction of family members of the patients under surgical operation can be raised by providing SMS informing surgical operational status during the operation. This finding leads to the conclusion that such information service can be used as one of the efficient interventions for improving patient and family satisfactions with nursing care in a surgical unit.

The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 19.0, the positive affects were significantly higher in males than in females but the negative affects were reversed. Multiple regression analysis to identify factors affecting positive and negative affects showed the negative affects were influenced by sex, while the positive ones were by satisfaction in major, personality type, motive of admission, and types of hospital. The explanatory rate of these variables on the positive and negative affects were 22.8% and 7.8%, respectively. Emotional intervention program before child nursing practicum is necessary through implementing qualitative researches identifying the causes of negative affects before child nursing practicum of nursing students. Also, it is recommended the experimental studies comparing emotional states before and after child nursing practicum and other subjects'.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of stress and sleep quality on depression during clinical practice of nursing students. The subjects of the study were third and fourth graders who experienced clinical practice for more than a semester among nursing students at C University in one region. A total of 107 people were analyzed. Most of the nursing students experienced more than moderate stress and depression during clinical practice, and the quality of sleep was low. During clinical practice, the stress of nursing students showed a weak correlation with the quality of sleep(r=.393, p<.001), and depression showed a strong net correlation with stress(r=.588, p<.001), the quality of sleep(r=.591, p<.001). Factors affecting depression during clinical practice were stress and the quality of sleep. Therefore, effective management methods that can relieve the stress of nursing college students during clinical practice and improve the quality of sleep and active nursing strategies that can prevent depression should be sought.
