Effect of Fiber Orientation on the Mechanical Properties of Long Fiber Reinforced Composites (장섬유강화 복합재료의 섬유 배향특성이 기계적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Long-fiber-reinforced composites have the advantages of cost-competitiveness and high degree of freedom of molding compared to continuous-fiber-reinforced composites. On the other hand, it is difficult to ensure uniform characteristics due to the randomly distributed fiber orientation incurred from the process of manufacturing intermediate materials. In this study, the effect of the directionality of LFPS (Long Fiber Prepreg Sheet) materials on the mechanical properties was analyzed. The eddy current measurement method was used to analyze fiber orientations, and tensile and compression tests on LFPS materials were performed according to ASTM standards. In addition, the test results and theoretical values of LFPS materials were verified using the ROM (rule-of-mixtures) theory. These results confirmed the effect of fiber orientation on mechanical properties of discontinuous-fiber-reinforced composites.

Stock-based Managerial Compensation and Risk-taking in Bank (은행 임원의 주식기준 보상과 위험추구)

  • This study examines the compensation scheme for the executives and risk-taking behavior in the Korean banks. Theoretically, shareholders prefer risky asset choice to the optimal one due to the limited liability feature of reward, and stock-based executive compensation may induce choices favorable to the shareholder. We empirically test this risk-taking hypothesis using Korean banks' data. Since only the stock option data is available under the current disclosure system, we limit our analysis to examine the relationship between the compensation through stock option and the risk of banks. The result provides no evidence that stock option compensations increase the risk of banks, which is contrary to the theoretical prediction and preceding studies in the US. This may be due to any factor that the executive reward data omit, or regulation effects on the bank management.

  • Construction managers need to pay a close attention to the resource utilization in order to deliver the construction project successfully. Construction scheduling is crucial for resource control in that it provides information when and how much to bring down work force to sites. In scheduling, activity duration is projected based on the productivity of historical data or the intuition of scheduler. This paper studies the opportunity of applying cost-based productivity for estimating activity duration. For cost-based productivity, the cost of resource is used as an input and the work quantities as an output. Out of historical data, regression model has been developed to understand the validity of applying cost-based productivity in projecting activity duration. The result of study will work as a prerequisite for implementing the environment of database-based construction scheduling.

  • This study conducted a qualitative analysis on the Korea's nuclear energy sector in 2030 through scenario-based strategic foresight method. Specifically, the relationships between environmental influencing factors of the future nuclear energy sector was examined from a multi-dimensional perspective on the basis of STEEP analysis and network analysis. In addition, scenario planning method was used with key uncertainty factors (KUF) to create three predictable strategic scenarios including optimistic, business as usual, and pessimistic. Common strategies that need to be urgently pursued as well as the maximum risk avoidance strategies for each scenario were also presented. This study further identified energy pricing, global economic trend, competitiveness in nuclear technology, and marketing capability as key uncertainty factors in the future nuclear energy industry sector. In order to furnish effective export strategy in the future nuclear energy sector, it was also suggested that government policy should adopt following measures as top priorities: securing nuclear safety technology, educating nuclear engineers, securing nuclear resources such as uranium, increasing nuclear capability and so on. The implications and limitations of this study were then discussed based on research findings.

  • 국내 및 세계의 천연가스 수요가 증가하고, 원유가 상승에 의한 천연가스의 지속적인 가격상승이 예측됨에 따라 천연가스의 99%를 수입에 의존하는 우리나라의 에너지 안보 확보 방안을 위한 기술개발이 필요하다. 국내에서 천연가스를 확보할 수 있는 현실적인 방법중의 하나는 석탄가스화를 통해 얻어진 합성가스를 이용하여 SNG(synthetic Natural Gas, 합성천연가스)를 제조하는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 다양한 석탄, 다양한 석탄 가스화기를 적용하는 경우에 대한 CASE별 공정해석을 수행하여 각 경우의 SNG 생산 특성을 파악하였다. 석탄의 종류는 역청탄, 아역청탄, 갈탄을 대상으로 하였으며, 역청탄을 사용하는 경우는 General Electric Energy(GEE), Shell Global Solutions(Shell), ConocoPhillips(CoP)사의 가스화기를, 아역청탄을 사용하는 경우는 KBR의 TRIG$^{TM}$, Siemens사의 SFG, Shell, CoP 가스화기를, 갈탄을 사용하는 경우는 Shell, Siemens 가스화기를 적용하였다. 사용한 석탄과 석탄가스화기에서 발생된 합성가스 조성은 NETL에서 발행된 보고서에 제시된 수치들을 활용하였다. 역청탄을 사용하고 CoP 가스화기를 적용한 경우, SNG 합성공정에 유입되는 유량이 100 Nm3/h 일 때, 생산되는 SNG의 조성은 $CH_4$ 96.26%, $H_2$ 1.49%, $CO_2$ 0.69%, CO 0.004% 이고 생산유량은 24 Nm3/h 였다. SNG 효율을 SNG 합성공정에 공급되는 합성가스 열량 대비 최종 생산되는 SNG의 열량을 기준으로 하고, 각 CASE 별 SNG 효율을 살펴보면, 역청탄을 대상으로 한 경우 GEE 74.05%, CoP 76.65%였다. 아역청탄을 대상으로 한 경우 TRIG 78.14%, Siemens 71.22%, CoP 75.72%였고, 갈탄을 대상으로 하는 경우 Shell 71.48%, Siemens 71.49%였다. 역청탄을 사용하는 경우는 CoP 가스화기를 대상으로 한 경우 SNG 효율 및 생산량이 가장 높았고, 아역청탄을 사용하는 경우는 TRIG 가스화기를 대상으로 한 경우의 SNG 효율 및 생산량이 높았다. 갈탄을 사용하는 경우는 Shell 가스화기와 Siemens 가스화기가 거의 비슷한 결과를 나타내었다. $$SNG\;efficiency({\eta})={\frac{Q_B}{Q_A}}={\frac{Q_{SNG}(kcal/h)}{Q_{Syngas}(kcal/h)}}{\times}100(%)$$.

A Ship-Valuation Model Based on Monte Carlo Simulation (몬테카를로 시뮬레이션방법을 이용한 선박가치 평가)

  • This study utilizes Monte Carlo simulation to forecast the time charter rate of vessels, the three-month Libor interest rate, and the ship demolition price, to mitigate future uncertainties involving these factors. The simulation was performed 10,000 times to obtain an exact result. For the empirical analysis - based on considerations in ordering ships in 2010-a comparison between the Monte Carlo simulation-based stochastic discounted cash flow (DCF) method and traditional DCF methods was made. The analysis revealed that the net present value obtained through Monte Carlo simulation was lower than that obtained via regular DCF methods, alerting the owners to risks and preventing them from placing injudicious orders for ships. This research has implications in reducing the uncertainties that future shipping markets face, through the use of a stochastic DCF approach with relevant variables and probability methods.

  • The advance of IT brings various IT equipment which functions as creation, application, and distribution of digital contents, and its demand is increased in the market. As the world IT equipment market has grew steadily, some companies think of it as a good opportunity. But there is a entry barrier like IT Capabilities to the late movers. So some participate in the market, forming the technology alliance with a advanced company. Ironically, the market system set companies' partnership into rivalry. In this context, our study focused on strengthening late mover's competitiveness under the technology alliance. And we conducted the case study concerning the technology alliance, and showed a strategical implications. As a result, we found some challenges for late mover; price policy making by scientific demanding forecasting, preparatory research and management for brand identity and efficient contact points for customer management. We hope that results of the study will influence the development of digital contents industry.

  • This study examined the current state of fitness IT which are commercially available, and proposed the prospect and promoting plans for fitness IT. Latest wearable smart market has been reorganized into smart watch market and fitness tracker market. Fitness trackers which are typical devices of fitness IT technology has developed various types of such as watch, band, clothes, glasses, and lens. Until now, the most popular type of fitness tracker are watch and band including clip, necklace, hair band etc.. Also Apple and Google referred to as the two major axes of mobile platform has provided a health-related platform such as "Healthkit" and "Google Fit" for preoccupying the fitness business. The view of the fitness IT has seen a continuous growth trend considering smaller and lighter of fitness-related wearable device. To continuous growth and promote of fitness IT, it is expected to require mash-up a variety of fitness applications and services, ensuring the convenience of user experience, design and resonable price.

  • Recently, the mineral resource protection policies and regulations in production countries of natural resources including rare metals are becoming more stringent. Such environment makes which market has malfunction. In other word, those are not perfect or pure market. Therefore because each market of natural resources have special or unique characters, it is difficult to forecast their market prices. In this study, we constructed several models to estimate prices of natural resources using statistical tools like ARIMA and their business indices. And for examples, Indium and Coal were introduced.

  • Recently, much research has been conducted on FRP composite to replace steel. However, the concept of FRP girder filled with concrete has not been fully attempted. This study focuses on the analytical behavior of FRP girders filled with concrete. FRP girders usually have large deflection due to relatively low elastic modulus compared to steel members. However, in the previous experimental investigation on small sized modular beams, it has been verified that the displacement of FRP-girder filled with concrete is reduced and the strength is increased considerably. In this research, analytical investigations have conducted to verify the analytical method by comparing the results with tests. In addition, analyses on large girders assembled with small modules have been carried out to predict the feasibility before tests. The analytical results showed that the assembled FRP girders can be used as substitutes for steel girders.
