  • Inverse Gaussian distribution is widely used in applications to analyze and model right-skewed data. To assess the appropriateness of the distribution prior to data analysis, Mudholkar and Tian (2002) proposed an entropy-based test of fit. The test is based on the entropy power fraction(EPF) index suggested by Gokhale (1983). The simulation results report that the power of the entropy-based test is superior compared to other goodness-of-fit tests; however, this observation is based on the small-scale simulation results on the standard exponential, Weibull W(1; 2) and lognormal LN(0:5; 1) distributions. A large-scale simulation should be performed against various alternative distributions to evaluate the power of the entropy-based test; however, the use of a theoretical method is more effective to investigate the powers. In this paper, utilizing the information discrimination(ID) index defined by Ehsan et al. (1995) as a mathematical tool, we scrutinize the power of the entropy-based test. The selected alternative distributions are the gamma, Weibull and lognormal distributions, which are widely used in data analysis as an alternative to inverse Gaussian distribution. The study results are provided and an illustrative example is analyzed.

  • In this paper, we study a polynomially solvable case of the inverse interval graph coloring problem. Given an interval graph associated with a specific interval system, the inverse interval graph coloring problem is defined with the assumption that there is no proper K-coloring for the given interval graph, where K is a fixed integer. The problem is to modify the system of intervals associated with the given interval graph by shifting some of the intervals in such a way that the resulting interval graph becomes K-colorable and the total modification is minimum with respect to a certain norm. In this paper, we focus on the case K = 1 where all intervals associated with the interval graph have length 1 or 2, and interval displacement is only allowed to the righthand side with respect to its original position. To solve this problem in polynomial time, we propose a two-phase algorithm which consists of the sorting and First Fit procedure.

  • Mammalian olfactory receptors are a family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that occupy a large part of the genome. In human genes, olfactory receptors account for more than 40% of all GPCRs. Several types of GPCR structures have been identified, but there is no single olfactory receptor whose structure has been determined experimentally to date. The aim of this study was to model the interactions between an olfactory receptor and its ligands at the molecular level to provide hints on the binding modes between the OR2W1 olfactory receptor and its agonists and inverse agonists. The results demonstrated the modes of ligand binding in a three-dimensional model of OR2W1 and showed a statistically significant difference in binding affinity to the olfactory receptor between agonists and inverse agonists.

  • The Gaussian diffraction pattern initially assumed in the diffraction inverse problem is further sharply defined by multiplying $e^{-q{\omega}_0$\mid${\chi}$\mid$}$. The modified pupil function is obtained and the diffraction intensity distribution for the finite aperture ($-{\omega}_0~{\times}{\omega}_0$ is obtained, and then the OTF is derived analytically. It is found the OTF is equal to or less than the $(OTF)_{q=0}$, namely the modulation is not useful. It is shown that the narrowing down the initial Gaussian diffraction pattern does not give the anticipated improvement in OTF and the reason is clarified.

  • $Ni_{1-x}Mg_xFe_2O_4$ ferrite system was studied by using X-ray diffraction and $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectroscopy. The samples were prepared by ceramic sintering method with Mg content x. The X-ray diffraction patterns of samples show phase of cubic spinel structure. There are no remarkable changes of lattice constants in $Ni_{1-x}Mg_xFe_2O_4$ ferrite system. The $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectra were consisted of two sets of six lines, respectively, corresponding to $Fe^{3+}$ at tetrahedral and octahedral sites. The magnetic hyperfine field of samples was decreased as increasing Mg contents x in both sites and it was shown Yafet-Kittel magnetic structure. $NiFe_2O_4$ was shown complete inverse spinel, but $NiFe_2O_4$ was shown partial inverse spinel which absorption area ratio (oct/tet) was 1.449 in $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectrum.

  • Hydrodynamic characteristics such as gas holdup, liquid circulation velocity and bed expansion in a hexagonal inverse fluidized bed were investigated using air-water system by changing the ratio ($A_d$/$A_r$) of cross-sectional area between the riser and the downcomer, the liquid level($H_1$/H), and the superficial gas velocity($U_g$). The gas holdup and the liquid circulation velocity were steadily increased with the superficial gas velocity increasing, but at high superficial gas velocity, some of gas bubbles were carried over to a downcomer and circulated through the column. When the superficial gas velocity was high, the $A_d$/$A_r$ ratio in the range of 1 to 2.4 did not affect the liquid circulation velocity, but the maximum bed expansion was obtained at $A_d$/$A_r$ ratio of 1.25. The liquid circulation velocity was expressed as a model equation below with variables of the cross-sectional area ratio($A_d$/$A_r$) between riser to downcomer, the liquid level($H_1$/H), the superficial gas velocity($U_g$), the sparser height[(H-$H_s$)/H], and the draft Plate level($H_b$/H). $U_{ld}$ = 11.62U_g^{0.75}$${(\frac{H_1}{H})}^{10.30}$${(\frac{A_d}{A_r})}^{-0.52}$${(\frac({H-H_s}{H})}^{0.91}$${(\frac{H_b}{H})}^{0.13}$

  • We consider closed, star-shaped, admissible hypersurfaces in ℝn+1 expanding along the flow Ẋ = |X|α-1 F, α ≤ 1, β > 0, and prove that for the case α ≤ 1, β > 0, α + β ≤ 2, this evolution exists for all the time and the evolving hypersurfaces converge smoothly to a round sphere after rescaling. Besides, for the case α ≤ 1, α + β > 2, if furthermore the initial closed hypersurface is strictly convex, then the strict convexity is preserved during the evolution process and the flow blows up at finite time.

  • Feistel and SPN are the two main structures in a block cipher. Feistel is a symmetric structure which has the same structure in encryption and decryption, but SPN is not a symmetric structure. In this paper, we propose a SPN which has a symmetric structure in encryption and decryption. The whole operations of proposed algorithm are composed of the even numbers of N rounds where the first half of them, 1 to N/2 round, applies a right function and the last half of them, (N+1)/2 to N round, employs an inverse function. And a symmetry layer is located in between the right function layer and the inverse function layer. In this paper, AES encryption and decryption function are selected for the right function and the inverse function, respectively. The symmetric layer is composed with simple matrix and round key addition. Due to the simplicity of the symmetric SPN structure in hardware implementation, the proposed modified AES is believed to construct a safe and efficient cipher in Smart Card and RFID environments where electronic chips are built in.

  • The effects of high frequency noises on a perturbational inversion technique for a stratified dispersive medium are investigated in this paper. It is shown that the perturbational solution becomes unstable under high frequency noises. The physical origin of this instability is described. In order to enhance the robustness of the perturbational inverse scattering solution, a parametric inversion technique is introduced. The examples for the 2-pole and the 3-pole reflection coefficients are compared and contrasted, and improvement of the robustness of the solutions is shown.
