  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze recent research trend on pathology of Meniere's Disease and review the results in Korean Medicine. Methods : We searched MEDLINE on the title "Meniere's Disease" and "pathology" in recent 5 years and searched OASIS with KISS on the title "Meniere's Disease". Results : We found 21 studies on MEDLINE, 9 studies on OASIS and KISS about Meniere's Disease. The results are as follow. 1. In western medicine, the pathology of Meniere's disease is supposed to be related with endolymphatic hydrops and autoimmunity. The causes of endolymphatic hydrops are studied in various viewpoints such as disorder of endolymph drainage and homeostasis abnormality of endolymph. And autoimmunity is assumed to be associated with genetic factor. 2. In Korean medicine, Meniere's disease were mainly treated with acupuncture and hebal medicine. Conclusions : Korean medicinal approaches on pathology of Meneire's disease can be significant in view of endolymphatic hydrops. And on the basis of those outcomes, much more studies have to be researched for Korean medicinal treatment of Meneire's disease.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the coincidence between keywords of Journal of the Korean Society of Physical Medicine (JKSPM) and MeSH terms, a controlled vocabulary used in MEDLINE. Methods : A total of 838 keywords used in 252 papers of JKSPM from Vol.1, No.1, 2006 to Vol.7, No.1, 2012 were compared with MeSH terms. All of keywords are classified to three large categories; complete coincidence, incomplete coincidence, and complete incoincidence. Results : The keywords in complete coincidence category were 183(21.8%), the keywords in incomplete coincidence category were 378(45.1%), and the keywords in complete incoincidence category were 277(33%). The most used keyword in complete coincidence category was 'stroke' and in complete incoincidence category was 'balance'. The most used keyword matching entry terms in incomplete coincidence category was 'elderly'. Conclusion : The rate of complete coincidene of keywords with MeSH terms was not higher than the rates of incomplete coincidence and complete incoincidence. It is necessary to understand MeSH terms more accurately and specifically. The JKSPM should ask the authors to use MeSH terms as keyword when they submit the paper.

  • CPR in High-rise building is one of the challenging tasks to 119 paramedics, evacuating patient from the narrow and vertical area. This study was built to compare the method of mechanical CPR and manual CPR is to maximizing on-scene treatment time, and minimizing the hand-off time in cardiac arrest, transporting patient as fast as possible. The electronic data research (Science, Pubmed, Medline, Medline and 55 academic DB interworking) was conducted, and five articles were included by reviewing and excluding through the Covidence program and Review Manager version 5.4(Cochrane Collaboration). OHCA occurring on the higher floor indicates lower in survival. A total studies uniformly reported mechanical CPR is more effective during the high-rise building evacuation, than manual CPR in rate, depth, and hands-on time of chest compression. Use of mechanical CPR device is more suitable in case of High-rise building OHCA to improve the survival rate which is affected by high-quality CPR.

  • This study examined the method for adding related to "stomach neoplasms" as filters to the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) for search as well as a method for improving the search efficiency through a word-proximity search by measuring the distance of co-occurring terms. A total of 8,625 articles published between 2007 and 2016 with the major topic terms "stomach neoplasms" were downloaded from PubMed article titles. The vocabulary to be added to the MeSH for search were analyzed. The search efficiency was verified by 277 articles that had "Stomach Neoplasms" indexed as MEDLINE MeSH in KoreaMed. As a result, 973 terms were selected as the candidate vocabulary. "Gastric Cancer" (2,780 appearances) was the most frequent term and 7,376 compound words (88.51%) combined the histological terms of "stomach" and "neoplasm", such as "gastric adenocarcinoma" and "gastric MALT lymphoma". A total of 5,234 compounds words (70.95%), in which the co-occurring distance was two words, were found. The matching rate through the MEDLINE MeSH and KoreaMed MeSH Indexer was 209 articles (75.5%). The search efficiency improved to 263 articles (94.9%) when the search filters were added, and to 268 articles (96.7%) when the 13 word-proximity search technique of the co-occurring terms was applied. This study showed that the use of a thesaurus as a means of improving the search efficiency in a natural language search could maintain the advantages of controlled vocabulary. The search accuracy can be improved using the word-proximity search instead of a Boolean search.

  • This paper presents a scientometric analysis of national patterns of research output and priorities in the sub-fields of Hepatitis covered in three bibliographic databases namely MEDLINE, CINAHL and IPA. The literature covered in three databases for the period 1984-2003 was considered. We have already discussed the Trends in the Growth of Literature on Hepatitis in our previous paper. Therefore in this paper only sub-fields analysis is presented. It has been found that the Hepatitis literature output has been grouped in 23 major sub-fields based on databases covered. It was found that there were high priorities for some of the sub-fields of Hepatitis research during 1984-1993. It was found that the research priority profile was more or less homogenous since majority of the sub-fields are showing either below or above average levels of priority profile. In the first phase of the research period covering from 1984-1993, there are high priorities in 10 sub-fields in USA followed by 9 in UK and 8 in Germany, 7 each in Canada, Russia and Netherlands. On the other hand, in the second phase (1994-2003) there are high priorities for 10 sub-fields in Germany, 9 in UK, 8 in USA, 7 each in Canada, Russia and Netherlands. In the productivity of Pediatrics sub-field, India is in the third position.

  • As Damyang has preserved both beautiful natural environment and tradition very well, it needs colors which can coexist with Damyang while preserving it as it is rather than colorful and refined colors. However, the present Damyang deteriorates the quality of beautiful natural scenes by chaotic uses of colors. Therefore, colors which can represent symbolism based on the present colors of Damyang should be used so that everyone can be pleased with them. Finally, the basic colors decided were classified into main, supplement and highlight colors in consideration of characteristics of each scene and they were effectively arranged based on the colors decided. If such colors and color schemes are properly applied according to characteristics of scenes, ecological, historical, cultural and traditional scenes of Damyang can be preserved consistently. Academic literature uses the abstract to succinctly communicate complex research. An abstract may act as a stand-alone entity instead of a full paper. As such, an abstract is used by many organizations as the basis for selecting research that is proposed for presentation in the form of a poster, platform/oral presentation or workshop presentation at an academic conference. Most literature database search engines index only abstracts rather than providing the entire text of the paper. Full texts of scientific papers must often be purchased because of copyright and/or publisher fees and therefore the abstract is a significant selling point for the reprint or electronic version of the full-text. Abstracts are protected under copyright law just as any other form of written speech is protected. However, publishers of scientific articles invariably make abstracts publicly available, even when the article itself is protected by a toll barrier. For example, articles in the biomedical literature are available publicly from medline which is accessible through design. It is a common misconception that the abstracts in medline provide sufficient information for medical practitioners, students, scholars and patients. The abstract can convey the main results and conclusions of a scientific article but the full text article must be consulted for details of the methodology.

  • Background and Objective: Whabyung is a Korean cultural disorder characterized by a combination of emotional stress and physical symptoms. Acupuncture, herbal medicines and other complementary medicinal treatments are used to treat the symptoms of whabyung. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of acupuncture treatment and herbal medicine treatments on anger, anxiety and depression of whabyung. Methods: Using PubMed, CENTRAL, AMED, MEDLINE, EMBASE, MEDLINE, CINAHL, Cnii, CNKI, J-SATGE, PsycArticles, KISS, KoreaMed, kmbase, NDSL, RISS, OASIS and Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal, articles published by March 2017 for whabyung or whabyung-related syndrome were searched. The quality of selected articles was evaluated using RoB and RoBANS. The effects of acupuncture and herbal medicines on anger, anxiety, and depression levels of whabyung patients were considered for meta-analyses. Results: Of the total 2408 articles retrieved from the database, 11 were finally selected and 4 articles were used for meta-analyses. Acupuncture reduced whabyung patients' anger and anxiety. Especially, the state anxiety was significantly reduced (effect size= -0.676, p= .026). Herbal medicine had effects on reducing anxiety and state anger while trait anger was increased without statistical significance. Conclusion: The present study showed the effectiveness of acupuncture and herbal medicines for whabyung patients in general. However, considering the limited availability of articles and the heterogeneity between them included for the meta-analysis, the results should be generalized with caution. In the future, more studies within the structure of evidence-based medicine need to be conducted to generate objective and valid evidences of korean medicine.
