  • Characterizations of almost perfect domains by certain covers and envelopes, due to Bazzoni-Salce [7] and Bazzoni [4], are generalized to almost perfect commutative rings (with zero-divisors). These rings were introduced recently by Fuchs-Salce [14], showing that the new rings share numerous properties of the domain case. In this note, it is proved that admitting strongly flat covers characterizes the almost perfect rings within the class of commutative rings (Theorem 3.7). Also, the existence of projective dimension 1 covers characterizes the same class of rings within the class of commutative rings admitting the cotorsion pair (𝒫1, 𝒟) (Theorem 4.1). Similar characterization is proved concerning the existence of divisible envelopes for h-local rings in the same class (Theorem 5.3). In addition, Bazzoni's characterization via direct sums of weak-injective modules [4] is extended to all commutative rings (Theorem 6.4). Several ideas of the proofs known for integral domains are adapted to rings with zero-divisors.

  • In 1986, R. Huff [3] showed that a Dunford integrable function is Pettis integrable if and only if T : $X^*{\rightarrow}L_1(\mu)$ is weakly compact operator and {$T(K(F,\varepsilon))|F{\subset}X$, F : finite and ${\varepsilon}$ > 0} = {0}. In this paper, we introduce the notion of Bourgain property of real valued functions formulated by J. Bourgain [2]. We show that the class of pettis integrable functions is linear space and if lis bounded function with Bourgain property, then T : $X^{**}{\rightarrow}L_1(\mu)$ by $T(x^{**})=x^{**}f$ is $weak^*$ - to - weak linear operator. Also, if operator T : $L_1(\mu){\rightarrow}X^*$ with Bourgain property, then we show that f is Pettis representable.

  • A finite element formulation for the time-domain analysis of linear transient elastodynamic problems is presented based on the weak form obtained by applying the Galerkin's method to the integro-differential equations which contain the initial conditions implicitly and does not include the inertia terms. The weak form is extended temporally under the assumptions of the constant and linear time variations of field variables, since the time-stepping algorithms such as the Newmark method and the Wilson ${\theta}$-method are not necessary, obtaining two kinds of implicit finite element equations which are tested for numerical accuracy and convergency. Three classical examples having finite and infinite domains are solved and numerical results are compared with the other analytical and numerical solutions to show the versatility and accuracy of the presented formulation.

  • Types (over parameters) in the theory of atomless random variable structures correspond precisely to (conditional) distributions in probability theory. Moreover, the logic (resp. metric) topology on the type space corresponds to the topology of weak (resp. strong) convergence of distributions. In this paper, we study metrics between types. We show that type spaces under $d^{\ast}-metric$ are isometric to Wasserstein spaces. Using optimal transport theory, two formulas for the metrics between types are given. Then, we give a new proof of an integral formula for the Wasserstein distance, and generalize some results in optimal transport theory.

  • In this paper we consider gradient almost Ricci solitons with weak conditions on Weyl and Bach tensors. We show that a gradient almost Ricci soliton has harmonic Weyl curvature if it has fourth order divergence-free Weyl tensor, or it has divergence-free Bach tensor. Furthermore, if its Weyl tensor is radially flat, we prove such a gradient almost Ricci soliton is locally a warped product with Einstein fibers. Finally, we prove a rigidity result on compact gradient almost Ricci solitons satisfying an integral condition.

  • Syntenin is an adaptor molecule containing 2 PDZ domains which mediate molecular interactions with diverse integral or cytoplasmic proteins. Most of the results on the biological function of syntenin were obtained from studies with malignant cells, necessitating exploration into the role of syntenin in normal cells. To understand its role in normal cells, we investigated expression and function of syntenin in human lymphoid tissue and cells in situ and in vitro. Syntenin expression was denser in the germinal center than in the extrafollicular area. Inside the germinal center, syntenin expression was obvious in follicular dendritic cells (FDCs). Flow cytometric analysis with isolated cells confirmed a weak expression of syntenin in T and B cells and a strong expression in FDCs. In FDC-like cells, HK cells, most syntenin proteins were found in the cytoplasm compared to weak expression in the nucleus. To study the function of syntenin in FDC, we examined its role in the focal adhesion of HK cells by depleting syntenin by siRNA technology. Knockdown of syntenin markedly impaired focal adhesion kinase phosphorylation in HK cells. These results suggest that syntenin may play an important role in normal physiology as well as in cancer pathology.
